Spain has over 5,000 miles of coastline, much of which is graced with beautiful beaches. Though the tourists flock to the Costa Blanca and the Costa del Sol, there are gorgeous beaches all over Spain (well, where there’s coastline, anyway!). over the next few months we will discover the top 10 voted beaches.

5 Beaches of Sitges, Catalonia, near Barcelona

6.Nerja, Costa del Sol, Andalusia

Sitges has the best beach near Barcelona and a storming nightlife to go with it. It is certainly a lot better than Barceloneta Beach in Barcelona. Sitges is a wellknown gay resort, but the main beaches are mixed. There are also nudist beaches in Sitges.

Rather than heading west from Málaga to the likes of Torremolinos and Fuengirola, go east to Nerja. Nerja is a pueblo blanco(“white village”) with pretty houses and nice beaches, though it isn’t free from the big hotels that blot the landscape all around this region. Alternatively, head a little further to Motril. Both Nerja and Motril are within 1h30 of both Málaga and Granada.

Sitges is a relatively small town boasting a grand total of seventeen beaches. In general the beaches are all welcoming and unintimidating. However, if you are looking for something in particular you may also be able to find what you want. Sitges has gay-friendly and nudist beaches as well as family beaches. This page will provide a list of Sitges’s beaches, providing further information regarding those that may appeal to a particular group. In general you will find that the beaches that are closest to the city centre are the busiest, whereas those further from town provide a slightly more secluded location. As with most beaches in Spain, you are likely to find topless sunbathers everywhere -this is not limited to just nudist beaches. However, you will generally find this to be more common in the gay and nudist beaches. For example, there is a notable difference in the atmosphere between Platja de la Ribera and Platja de la Bassa Rodona (see below for more details). There are 17 great beaches for you to explore

The 17 Beaches of Nerja are one of the towns ́s biggest assets, the crystal clear waters and rocky outcrops that pepper the coastline make it a haven for snorkelling and scubadiving. The steep cliffsides offer breath taking views; of course none as spectacular as that of the Balcon de Europa. The shape of the coves mean the waters are tranquil and the beaches protected from harsh winds. Restaurants, kiosks and chiringuitos scattered along the shoreline ensure that the beaches of Nerja are unmissable and well catered; a haven for both tourists and locals. Of these El Playazo beach lies to the West of Nerja town centre, between Urbanización La Tropicana and the mouth of the river Higueron; approximately 1.8km long. it is accessible from the N340 via the Rambla de Chillar. The sand is typically mediterranean; dark with course grains. Facilities include: showers, sunbeds, parasols and number of beach side restaurants located on the paseo, to the East of the beach, on the edge of the town. The excellent facilities and high standard of cleanliness have been recognised by the European Union who awarded it the Blue Flag. Due to it ́s size this beach remains relatively quiet even through the summer months, with tourists prefered to stay within the town centre.

Wine Article

Chilled Wine

Let’s talk WINE

Summer has arrived –we can feel it- and the heat wave is making us search for anything to refresh us. So here you have some tips on how to enjoy a good wine at its ideal temperature, so you have the opportunity to drink it and fully enjoy its flavour. When we talk of chilling wine, we talk mainly about white and rosé wines, but there are also some types of red wines (light, fruity, dry, not too oaky style) we can take colder than the rest. Later in the text I will give you 5 red wines to cool. It’s important to take care about temperature in order to preserve the flavour and original aromas, because if we drink it hotter or colder than it is recommended, you can spoil the characteristics of wine. Here are some tricks of the trade to accelerate the cooling process of the bottle: The ice bucket with salt. The use of an ice bucket to cool the wine bottles quickly and easily is well known all around the world (if we do not have one, a pot can serve us just as well) Just fill it with ice and cold wáter! But here comes the key to chill the wine as fast as possible: add a tablespoon of salt to the water and stir well until dissolved. We put the bottle inside and in about 5 minutes your wine will be ready to drink. So why do we put salt in? The reason is very easy, because the salt allows cold to be transmitted in less time so the water temperature will be lower than before. The mixture of salt and water absorb the heat of the bottle and so the cold could be transmitted faster to the wine. Using kitchen paper. This is not only for wine bottles, but also for any other bottle drink. Remember that under any circumstances, you should never, never (never!) put the wine directly in the freezer, not even put ice cubes in the wine glass to avoid ruin and spoil the flavor. But you can put it in the freezer for a short time with this trick. Take some kitchen paper and roll the bottle in it. Wet the paper with water until the paper is well attached to the bottle. Insert the bottle wrapped in the paper in the freezer and wait for 10-15 minutes and it will be ready to serve. This is an interesting option to consider. Grapes instead of ice cubes. As we have already mentioned, the ice cubes in the glass can spoil the flavor of the wine, but there is another method that cools and does not affect the taste and aromas, although you have to be a bit foresighted. Take note: take and freeze some grapes previously. Then, when you want to drink a glass of wine that have been served at low temperatures, add the ‘cubes of grapes’ to the glass and it would be ready. It will release a little water by the layer of ice that can cover the fruit, but less than an ice cube. And it will also give a slightly more fruity flavour. Using a bottle cooler or chiller sleeve. As with the previous methods, the use of a cooler can affect the flavor and aroma of the wine, therefore, it is better to make sure to read the label of each bottle and check the temperature required for any wine before you do it. These bottle coolers are cheap and useful. You just have to put it in the freezer with enough time so, when the time comes, you just have to take it out of the freezer and put the bottle inside. Today there are many coolers, some of the most sophisticated allows you to even regulate the level of temperature depending on the type of wine. But leaving aside these little tricks, we must bear in mind that it is better to keep the wine bottle at the right temperature in each case, without suffering large variations. That means: in a cool place like the fridge, in a wine cellar, in a cellar ... It all depends on the type of wine. However, we can not ignore that this kind of solutions can get us out of trouble in more than one occasion. 5 Red wines ready to chill 1-. MABAL 2018(100% Monastrell) 2-. PITUCO MST 2018 (Monastrell, Syrah & Tintorera)) 3-. CARABO DE CONFESIONARIO (Tempranillo 100%) 4-. GOTIN DEL RISC 2017 (100% Mencía) 5-. OVEJA TINTA 2017 ( Graciano 100%)

South Town... Molina De Segura

Molina de Segura Molina de Segura lies about 10 km from the regional capital on the left bank of the river Segura. The main trunk road N-301 also runs through the town, making Molina an important transport hub, subsequently attracting important industries to set up in the area

In terms of urban, economic, and population growth, Molina has expanded remarkably since 1960. Its population of 57.000 makes it the region’s fourth largest town. The District of Molina itself presents a varied picture, the northern part being mainly rugged upland with the Sierras of Lugar, La Espada, and La Pila, while the southern part consists mainly of flatter countryside as one approaches the banks of the Segura, which, despite its rather modest girth, is still the regions main watercourse. Surprisingly, though, there are a number of wetlands as well as the dry gullies that stand out for their wealth of flora and fauna, two examples of note being the protected areas of Humedal de Ajauque and Rambla Salada, both of which belong partly to the district. The smaller villages of Fenazar, Los Valientes, La Hurona, La Albarda, Cómala, La Espada, Rellano, La Hortichuela, La Hornera and El Romeral lie in drier lands where the predominant vegetation is esparto grass, thyme and rosemary. These areas are where the ranges of La Espada, Lugar and the Sierra de la Pila National Park are situated, and which contain an extraordinary richness in wild flowers, including numerous native species found only here in the whole south-east of the Iberian peninsula. The huerta of Molina has its origins in the Islamic Period and comprises three main districts, namely, La Ribera de Molina, Torrealta and El Llano de Molina, important producers of peaches, apricots

and root vegetables, as well as tomatoes, onions and peppers. Situated in one of the area’s urban developments, Altorreal, is Altorreal Golf Club, with first class facilities and with good connections from Murcia, the provincial capital. A tour through the historical centre of Molina gives you the opportunity to discover 8 centuries of culture in less than two and a half hours. As you walk, you will be able to imagine how citizens lived during the Middle Ages. El Cid Campeador, Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar, passed by this part of the city, where the King Alphonse VI exiled him for the second time. The citadel on the top of the hill and the remains of the wall that protected the population will take you back to our most epic past. If you want to go deeper into the cuisine of Molina de Segura, you have to follow two steps. Firstly, look for the establishments marked with La Dama -a logotype that represents all the top-quality restaurants supporting local products. And secondly, choose among the traditional dishes: “migas ruleras” (fried bread crumbs with cold meat), “arroz a la huertana” (rice with vegetables), “olla de cerdo” (pork with beans) or “mondongo viudo” (rice, potato, onion, chickpeas and garlic); or try the avant-garde cuisine and enjoy its most sophisticated tastes and mixes offered by the most innovative restaurants... and always with a Mediterranean touch!

First Time Yoga

are you considering becoming a Yogini? Yoga, it’s multitude of benefits, and getting over firsttime anxieties and expectations. The International Day of Yoga was on Friday 21st June, first celebrated in 2015 following the promotion of the cause by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The (relatively) newfound creation of the day, officialised by the UN General Assembly in 2014, is statement enough that the practice of Yoga has been growing on a global scale in the last decade. Although a traditionally Ancient practice across Asia, the rising global stress levels, as discussed in a previous article, and the evergrowing complexity of modernity has meant the practice has begun to resonate more deeply with Western cultures. So, what are the benefits of yoga? Yoga has been scientifically recognised by renowned Health organisations including the UK’s NHS, who lists ‘A Guide to Yoga’ on their national website, and the American Psychological Association. It is proven to benefit physical, mental and emotional regions of ourselves. Some physical benefits include: - Increased flexibility - Increased muscle strength and tone - Balancing metabolism - Cardio and Circulatory health Some mental benefits include: - Reducing the levels of Cortisol (stress hormone) in our bodies - Sharpening attention and concentration - An effective tool for relieving or better managing anxiety - Promote sleep quality What happens to emotions? Moreover, it is scientifically known that we, as human beings, tend to carry stress in our hips. Therefore, poses that draw focus to hip stretches may sometimes release pent-up emotions. Perhaps the emotional benefits are those most unexpected, and maybe those most long overdue. Yoga combines this with the beauty that is physical and mental fitness and strength. Alright, I’m in … what now? Now that we have established the wonderful scientific and deeply personal yet universal benefits of Yoga, I am going to try (and hopefully succeed) in convincing you to let go of those first-time anxieties and expectations that can appear before joining any variation of fitness class. Why am I right for this job you may ask? Because I took my first ever Yoga class a mere two weeks ago in the beautiful Valley of Ulea at Happy Retreats…

After joining the retreat as an intern working in the retreat, but also having the opportunity to get involved, the word ‘Yogini’ had been thrown around several times. Each time I heard it, my ears pricked up a little bit higher and my mind began to open to the possibility of becoming one myself. Of course, it is hard not to consider such things when you are surrounded by luscious, Jurassic landscape, where birds sing through the day, pleasantly unaccompanied by roadside traffic or busy city sounds in exchange for the peaceful hum of Yoginis om’ing in tune to the breeze before the golden chime of a bell.

It was time to get involved…

The intimate-style class sizes introduced me without much anxiety, but to be truthful with you, I still had some questions… and some doubts. Was I going to be able to do the poses? Is it going to be a lot of sitting and breathing? (The answer to this one is yes, but stay focused) Are people going to judge me or likewise is it going to turn into a flexibility competition? You’ll be relieved to know that by the end of the practice, my questions had eased, and so had I. The class began with re-assurance that there would be no judgement nor pressure to take any pose that caused discomfort. Many of my anxieties began to smooth out. The teacher then invited us to close our eyes, focusing on our breath, our bodies, our minds, something unfamiliar to most. Following the session, I was particularly surprised by the above benefits. The first session convinced me to participant in more sessions, and after my third practice, I had already begun to feel my stress levels alleviate. To an even greater surprise was my experienced outburst of tears shortly after the sessions. Although first-time yoga triers, do not fear if your tears manifest during a session… I was comforted by Lee-ann, who informed me it is common to have people shed a few tears, or, fall into a slumber. Some readers may already be familiar with what I am describing. For those who are not so familiar, perhaps drawn to this article from a growing curiosity, now is your time to go out and experience the wonders of it for yourself.

Spain is a beautiful and diverse country that contains many longstanding and proud cultures under a single flag. There is much to do here, from enjoying the turquoise waters and sandy beaches of the Mediterranean coast to walking ancient pilgrimage routes or taking cycling tours throughout the vast, fertile wine country. History buffs will love the architecture that combines Spanish style with regional influences of Moorish or Basque, and art lovers will adore the many groundbreaking museums and the spectacular landscapes that inspired pioneers like Picasso. This country also offer a number of spectacular luxury hotels, which range from large to boutique, and from modern to the most ancient hotel still running today. Of special note are the Parador chain of Spanish luxury hotels, founded by Alfonso XIII to promote tourism in the country. A profitable state-run enterprise, the hotels are often in castles, palaces, fortresses, convents, monasteries and other historic buildings. They stretch from Galicia in the north-west, through Catalonia in the east, Andalusia in the south, and even to the Canary Islands. Here is a look at some of the most amazing hotels that Spain has to offer:

Let´s Explore Coast 2 Coast! - Los Alcázares Los Alcázares is a coastal spa town and former fishing village on the western side of the Mar Menor in the Murcia Region of South East Spain. The Mar Menor (little sea) belongs to three other municipalities: San Javier, San Pedro del Pinatar and Cartagena and is Europe’s largest saltwater lagoon. Connected to the adjacent Mediterranean Sea by several channels, the Mar Menor has a surface area of almost 20 km² and its still waters and the fact that it is typically 2-4 degrees warmer than the Mediterranean, makes it a very popular destination for sailing, windsurfing, kite boarding and other water sports enthusiasts. Los Alcázares is a popular tourist resort and its population of approximately 14,000 rises to over 100,000 during the peak summer holiday season.

On 13 October 1983, the town was granted municipal autonomy, in respect of which it holds an annual weeklong celebration featuring live music, shows, windsurfing competitions and firework displays.

In Los Alcázares, there are many local attractions. One of the most prominent of these is the “Los Narejos Promenade” with lots of shops, bars and restaurants where you can sip on a cool cocktail whilst taking in the marvellous views or experience the local cuisine. The Los Alcázares area is also well known as a major golf destination due to its all year round warm climate and the variety of golf courses in the area including High Quality Championship Venues. Courses are open year-round and most have some form of Bermuda grass mixtures. There are over 30 golf courses within 1 hour drive of the town. For the Beach Lover, Los Alcázares is considered to have some of the best beaches in the Murcia Region. Many of them have been awarded “Blue Flag Status” from the Spanish Tourist Board based on their cleanliness, safety and atmosphere, The Los Alcázares side of Mar Menor beaches stretches from Los Alcázares to San Javier and San Pedro del Pinatar. With a surface area of nearly 170 km², a coastal length of 70 km, and warm and clear water no more than 7 m in depth, it is considered to be “the largest swimming pool in the world”,

Besides the annual celebration of municipal autonomy, like many Spanish towns and cities, Los Alcázares also plays host to numerous fiestas and festivals throughout the year, including a large medieval market at the end of every March, and during the last two weeks in August, ‘La Huerta’ an international folklore festival and feast in celebration of the region’s status as the market garden of Spain.

How To Protect Your Outdoor Furniture Over time, Weather – good or bad – can do serious damage to patio furniture. A little wind, a lot of moisture and too many direct rays can all turn your often expensive patio set into a ramshackle pile of rust. Protect your outdoor living space and prevent dirt, rot and rust with these 3 simple steps: 1. Keep It Clean. Even if your furniture is covered, it´s still going to accrue dirt and rot if you don´t clean it every once in a while. Pick a sunny day and take the time to clean your furniture with a mild soap and warm water. Use a sponge to break up grime and a hose to rinse away any soap residue. 2. Protect Fabric. Cushions are invaluable for uncomfortable wicker or wrought iron chairs, but they’re sensitive and easily ruined by moisture. To protect your fabric (upholstery or cushions), first give it a good wash with mild soap and warm water, once the fabric is completely dry, spray it with fabric protector.

3. Furniture “Sunscreen” One of your patio furniture´s biggest enemies is a hot sunny day. Just like fair skin, UV rays can seriously fade your furniture. If your furniture is metal or plastic. Apply an even coat of outdoor protector. If your furniture is wood, a regular paint is the best way to protect it from the sun. The pigment in paint works like a sunscreen and protects the wood from harm. Always cover your furniture including in a heat wave.

ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DENTIST? Some days ago Mrs. L came for an appointment. She was trembling from the very moment she stepped into the care centre. She said that the smell, the lights, the scrubs, even the decoration, failed to distract her from her fear of the dentist. She came with her husband, who was holding her hand, trying to calm her down. “Relax, dear. You won’t feel anything this time.” I heard him say. Given the situation, I first tried to calm her down, so I didn’t take her straight to the office. We just sat down and had a chat. -“Now, tell me what brings you here? What can I do for you?” She said it had been 7 years since she had seen a dentist as the last time had been a bad experience. I guessed that she probably hadn´t had her pain or fear controlled, so she had given up on her oral health. When dealing with this kind of patient, we consider that Conscious Sedation treatment is one of the best options, and that’s what we do at LG Dental. What Is Conscious Sedation? The objective of sedation is to conduct dental surgery under a conscious, comfortable, relaxed and painless state while keeping the patient´s awareness throughout. Conscious Sedation is the administration of drugs such as anaesthetics, analgesics, and sedatives into the blood stream.

Conscious Sedation requires the same training and competency as that of general anaesthesia, and it is an anaesthetist who is a member of our multi-disciplinary team, who’s in charge of monitoring the entire sedation process. From beginning to end, the procedure is carried out to the highest standards of safety, giving the patient complete confidence and reassurance. The anaesthetist controls and monitors all the patient´s vital functions such as heart and respiratory rates, among others. The Advantages of Conscious Sedation Besides the clinical advantages there are other benefits that make this procedure a comfortable and positive experience. You will feel no pain. You will be comfortable and relaxed. You will not experience any trauma You will go home once the surgery is over, because Conscious Sedation is administered for outpatient surgeries at dental care centres. However none of these things alleviated Mrs. L’s fear. I could still see the worry in her eyes when she agreed to the surgery but she went through with it. She made all the preparations and when the day arrived she had two hours of surgery, six implants, and other complex procedures. She could hardly believe it when it was over and she said to me: -“Is that the time? It’s been only 5 minutes!”

Firstly we examine the patient´s physical condition and their sensitivity to drug and medical procedures in order to assess the appropriate dosage. Conscious sedation is the best option, Say goodbye to pain

To Find Out More About How We Can Help You.. 1. Make an appointment, get to know us, and tell us about your fear. We’ll understand you. 2. Bear in mind that dental technology has improved a lot, so most surgeries are entirely painless nowadays. 3. You’ll have a more comfortable and relaxed surgery with conscious sedation. Ideal for people with dental phobia. Perfect for special patients.

What are the advantages of conscious sedation? - You will have no pain. - You will be comfortable and relaxed. - You will not go through any traumatic experience. - You will go home after the surgery is over, because conscious sedation is administered for outpatient surgeries at dental care centers. - You will have a surgical team formed by dentists, anaesthesiologists, hygienists and assitants C/ Joaquin Turina 12, Fuente Álamo, 30320 Av. Stay Sun Safe!

How to apply sunscreen Most people do not apply enough sunscreen. As a guide, adults should aim to apply around: • 2 teaspoons of sunscreen if you’re just covering your head, arms and neck • 2 tablespoons if you’re covering your entire body while wearing a swimming costume

It is natural to want to enjoy the sun whether at home or here in Spain but remember there’s no safe or healthy way to get a tan. Aim to strike a balance between protecting yourself from the sun´s harmful rays whilst still getting enough Vitamin D. Here are few tips to help you stay Sun Safe! Spend time in the shade when the sun is strongest. Make sure you: • spend time in the shade between 11am and 3pm • make sure you never burn • cover up with suitable clothing and sunglasses • take extra care with children • use at least factor 30 sunscreen

If sunscreen is applied too thinly, the amount of protection it gives is reduced. If you’re worried you might not be applying enough SPF30, you could use a sunscreen with a higher SPF. If you plan to be out in the sun long enough to risk burning, sunscreen needs to be applied twice: • 30 minutes before going out • just before going out Sunscreen should be applied to all exposed skin, including the face, neck and ears, and head if you have thinning or no hair, but a wide-brimmed hat is better. Sunscreen needs to be reapplied liberally and frequently, and according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

What Factor Sunscreen (SPF) Should I Use?

This includes applying it straight after you have been in water, even if it’s “water resistant” Water washes sunscreen off, and the cooling effect of the water can make you think you’re not getting burned. Water also reflects ultraviolet (UV) rays, increasing your exposure It’s also recommended to reapply sunscreen every 2 hours, as the sun can dry it off your skin.

Do not rely on sunscreen alone to protect yourself from the sun. Wear suitable clothing and spend time in the shade when the sun’s at its hottest.

Protect Your Eyes

When buying sunscreen, the label should have: • a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30 to protect against UVB • at least 4-star UVA protection UVA protection can also be indicated by the letters “UVA” in a circle, which indicates that it meets the EU standard. Make sure the sunscreen is not past its expiry date. Most sunscreens have a shelf life of 2 to 3 years. Do not spend any longer in the sun than you would without sunscreen.

Children & Sun Protection Take extra care to protect babies and children. Their skin is much more sensitive than adult skin, and damage caused by repeated exposure to sunlight could lead to skin cancer developing in later life. Children aged under 6 months should be kept out of direct strong sunlight.

A day at the beach without proper eye protection can cause a temporary but painful burn to the surface of the eye, similar to sunburn. Reflected sunlight from snow, sand, concrete and water, and artificial light from sunbeds, is particularly dangerous. Avoid looking directly at the sun, as this can cause permanent eye damage.

G e t T h e We i g h t G o n e – D o T h e “ O n e To O n e ! So you've just found out about The “One to One Diet by Cambridge Weight Plan and you're checking us out - quite right too! You want to know whether it works don't you? Cambridge Weight Plan goes way back. We can trace its roots back to the 60s, when biochemist Dr Alan Howard started to research the perfect diet and it was then used by the UK NHS to help obese patients lose weight safely and quickly for surgery. Most recently we are proud to have been used in the ground-breaking Diabetes UK funded medical trial which proved that using our products to lose weight can put Type 2 Diabetes into remission, something we consultants have been seeing weekly with our diabetic clients. We’d like to think that the dieter's experience of Cambridge Weight Plan is a bit like having a friend by their side.

But not like a nagging friend. More like a really supportive, knowledgeable, wise and experienced friend cheering them on. A major trial carried out by Oxford University in the UK has proven that a combination of Total Diet Replacement Programmes (TDRs) and one-to-one support, could lead to better weight loss results than the usual NHS care route. You cannot buy our products online; our one to one support is what we pride ourselves on. Now it has been proven, it is a major part of the recent UK Cambridge Weight Plan. You have probably already seen “The One to One Diet on UK TV channels, UK Radio and Social Media. And Contrary to popular belief, we aren’t “just shakes We have a wide range of savoury meals, bars, soups and more, AND all of our plans also include REAL FOOD!! All of our products are registered with the Food

Standards Agency, Licenced with the Spanish Health Authorities and are nutritionally complete so contain everything you need to keep healthy whilst on a low calorie diet. And remember the one to one support is included in the price of the products! Private weekly appointments, just you and me, in O[ QHƓEG QT KP [QWT JQOG PQ ITQWRU no queues, no explaining yourself or feeling embarrassed. Having lost weight on the plan I then brought Cambridge Weight Plan to Murcia after embarking on my training and exams, and have since helped hundreds of clients! Focus On Astrological Star Signs What Does Your Star Sign Say About You?

Can your star sign really influence your personality? Logic would probably say not but many would agree that their personality traits are almost exactly as their star sign profile would suggest. Whilst a sceptic myself, I have to admit, good and bad, mine are spookily accurate! Each month we will focus on the Star Sign of The Month. See if you recognise yourself or friends and family! This Month We Focus on Leo (July 23rd to August 23rd)

Does This Sound Like You?

Strengths: Creative, passionate, generous, warm-hearted, cheerful, humorous Weaknesses: Arrogant, stubborn, self-centered, lazy, inflexible Leo likes: Theatre, taking holidays, being admired, expensive things, bright colours, fun with friends Leo dislikes: Being ignored, facing difficult reality, not being treated like a king or queen. People born under the sign of Leo are natural born leaders. They are dramatic, creative, self-confident, dominant, extremely difficult to resist and able to achieve anything they want to in any area of life they commit to. There is a specific strength to a Leo and their “king of the jungle status. Leo often has many friends for they are generous and loyal. Selfconfident and attractive, this is a Sun sign capable of uniting different groups of people and leading them as one towards a shared cause, and their healthy sense of humour makes collaboration with other people even easier. Most Compatible With: Aries, Gemini, Sagittarius, Libra Least Compatible With: Taurus, Scorpio

Horoscope For Your Birthday Month

This month, most of the planets will be on the eastern side of the sky. This arrangement will make you strong and capable of making independent decisions without outside help. Thanks to the effort and your own commitment, you will implement your plan and your vision of the world. Leos without a job, most likely will go to work abroad in its search. The Leo is extremely successful in the professional field. You will make your loved ones happy, and professional success will have a positive impact on the private and family spheres. You will think about health and family matters, which will upset you because you had other plans for their development. Jupiter, Mercury and the Sun will foster your love affairs and people in long-term relationships will eventually get serious declarations from their partner of the proposal or consent to the enlargement of the family. The sun will give you energy and vital strength, and Jupiter will give you irresistible charm. Mercury will affect your interpersonal skills, you will be more open to others, bold, confident and outspoken.

Moratalla Sportif May 2019. The route was excellently thought through with everything from gentle climbs to tough climbs, switchbacks, downhills and level sections, as usual in this part of Spain the scenery was fantastic especially as they gained height. The weather was great with hardly any wind. Dad and I walked round the town until we found a little tapas bar where we stopped and spend some quality time together over a few tapa’s, coffee and a beer. We walked back to the finish line where there were 2 lanes, the lane on the right was the finish for the 110km riders but the lane on the left was for the 180km riders to continue on. Here we go again another 5.30am start from the shop on a beautiful Sunday morning in May, this time 12 of us in 4 vehicles are heading to Moratalla in the North of Murcia to participate in the 21st Moratalla cycle Marcha (Sportif ). I have just had a new Titanium hip fitted and although I’m back cycling with the group I am not ready to stand up and cycle uphill yet so today I’m spectating and have a special guest with me my 91 year old Dad who has come to watch his first live cycle Sportif. There are 2 routes to choose from today 110km or 180km both great routes with some cracking steep hills thrown in. We arrived at 7am and found the perfect parking spot right next to the start line which was already being set up. We located the only open restaurant after a nice walk around the town and had our coffee and tostadas. We then made our way to the sports centre and registered, collected our numbers, goody bags and snacks before walking back to the cars to prepare our bikes. At the cars everyone unloaded their beloved bikes attached their race numbers, pumped up the tyres and got changed into cycling gear. We were soon on the start line along with 600 other riders of all ages and abilities, all out to achieve the same as us, to try and beat each other and successfully finish with a good time. At 9am sharp the gun sounded and off they went, following the safety car for the first 25k at quite a brisk pace passing through the beautiful picturesque town of Caravaca de la Cruz. It wasn’t long before the car sounded its horn which meant ‘Trama Libre’ (free ride) and they were off straight into the first climb of the day which lasted for 7k with an average gradient of 8%, this sorted everyone out and our team were already split into several little groups with the fast guys making a rapid getaway, there was quite a lot of under 23 semi-professional Spanish riders taking part and you could see how good they were by the speed that they left everyone behind.

As always I tell the guys it’s not about the winning it’s about the competing and doing your best along with 600 other like minded individuals. Dad and I waited at the finish line taking pictures of all our guys as the crossed the line in ones and twos exhausted. Everyone of our riders did well with good times but not good enough to get on the podium. There was pasta and beer for everyone at the finish line which was enjoyed by all. Another great sportif, well organized, well marshalled and plenty of water stops, well done again Murcia Region. Everyone now looking forward to our next oneTour Of Juguette in Alicante region.

North Town... Denia

Denia Denia - The harbour town in the province of Alicante Lying just north of Javea, this is where you pick up your high-speed catamaran ferry for a night of rock’n’roll in Ibiza or, if you fancy a more leisurely ride, you can take a panoramic trip down the coast as far as Altea.

Denia is also a large holiday resort, along with Javea, the place where wealthy folk from Valencia had their summer homes. It is more Spanish than either of the two southern resorts and has suffered less from property development, at least immediately around the town, although this is set for a big change. Nestling at the foot of the Montgó, the name of the mountain and national park, Denia has twenty kilometres of beaches, ranging from soft and sandy to the north to rough and rugged in the south. Les Deveses is popular with windsurfers, while for those who prefer life under the waves there are plenty of rocky coves south of the Port at Marineta Cassiana, El Trampoli and Punta Negra.

up from the port is the main shopping street of the town, although Denia has no shortage of places to shop or dine. The prawns here are said to be the best in the world (although no-one knows who actually said it!) and to sample them you could try one of the fish restaurants that overlook the beach at Punta Raset, a ten-minute walk north from the Port.

Like most tourist towns Denia has it’s fair share of museums, but one worth a quick look is the newly opened toy museum. Before the disastrous phylloxera epidemic in 1904 that destroyed millions of vines throughout Europe, Denia’s main money-earner had been the exportation of raisins. (The Co-operative Wholesale Society even had its own warehouse in the town from where it despatched raisins to the ports Most tourist offices provide way-marked walks, but of Liverpool and London.) When the town appeared Denia must be the only resort in the Costa Blanca to be on the edge of bankruptcy after the infestation that provides way-marked dives – two of them in the two enterprising German brothers called Ferchen, Cap de San-Antonio Marine Reserve. Once you have mastered this process you will find the taste difference between loose leaf tea and teabags is incredible. Try comparing a teabag in your cup, to a small lift and imagine how tight that is with eight people in. Now think of your lovely loose leaf tea swirling around in your teapot or cafetiere releasing all of its depths of flavour. That’s the equal to one person in a small lift so much better! So give your tea some space to brew and you will be rewarded with a quality drink.

To start the infusion when the water is ready pour over the tea leaves. Let it stand and infuse into your desired taste and strength, normally for black tea this is between 3 to 4 minutes. The beauty of this natural product is you can use as much or as little as you desire. Note tea that has being infused for too long tends to go bitter.

How do I serve loose leaf tea? We often get asked this question. So we have a guide on how to serve your choice of tea. Many people think it is complicated but in reality like everything, it is as complicated as you make it. I use either a small teapot and strainer or simply a cafetiere. Because you are using loose tea leaves this is a great option. Use freshly boiled water to the temperature the type of tea requires. Place one teaspoon of your favourite tea per person into your pot of choice, (not one extra for the pot), and get your cups ready.

So when you have finished your first cup of tea, you can always keep the leaves and get a cheeky second brew. Then finally you’re able to recycle them naturally to the earth, either in a compost bin or straight into your garden, unlike teabags they don’t have any polymer plastics sealing them up, they are truly a gift from nature.

It is as the question says fresh loose tea leaves from around the world preserved by being dried, in various different ways depending on the type and leaf they pick. Some are infused with oils, others delicately entwined with dried flowers, while some are smoked over pine, or even infused with fruit. As we all look for something different so the teas have evolved. And of course there are the natural traditional tea leaves with magnificent individual flavours with out and additives. Green teas, Black teas, White teas, Oolong Teas, Herbal teas where does it end…….

WHAT SHOULD I DO IN THE CASE OF A CAR ACCIDENT? Summer is coming in beautiful, sunny Spain. With temperatures soaring it’s a great feeling, although a tad hot at times for all expats that live and work in this tranquilo environment; tranquilo that is until the influx of tourists from many countries around the world especially from Britain and the rest of Europe. Now, more than other times during the year, one needs to be even more careful than ever on the roads. With all these extra cars and drivers, who are perhaps more used to driving on the left, an increase in the risk of traffic accidents is inevitable. Always make sure your tyre pressures are correct by checking them at least once a month. Also check your car’s radiator level is topped up; the last thing you want is to overheat and have to wait for a breakdown truck on the edge of a busy motorway! It’s also illegal to run out of screen wash, so make sure this is topped up too. And driving with flip-flops or shoes with no back is not permitted either. Needless to say, seat belts must be worn all round, and young children need safety harnesses. Using mobile phones are a definite no, INCLUDING texting, which is probably worse than speaking. Should the unthinkable happen, here are some tips that everyone, from a new driver to an experienced one, should remember in the case of an accident: 1. Stay calm and wear the reflective vest 2. Get to a safe area near the accident scene, turn on your emergency flashers and use the two triangles 3. Make sure everyone is okay and call 112, if necessary 4. When it is safe, take pictures of the vehicles involved, damage, road signs, etc. 5. Get statements and contact information from any witnesses 6. Complete the accident report: write down the other driver’s licence number, insurance details, vehicle information and phone number. Remember it has to be signed by both drivers and reported within seven days; If you need road assistance, call immediately to 900 101 369, Liberty Freephone Number, where you will be attended in your own language. LIBERTY SEGUROS Car Insurance is tailor-made with you in mind and is perfect for Expats in Spain. It offers total coverage to both the driver and passengers in case of an accident, as well as 24/7 roadside assistance by calling a freephone number. It also includes a courtesy car for up to 35 days, personal liability for you as a pedestrian or amateur cyclist and you will get a 30% compensation on top of book value in case of total loss or theft. You can also select a vehicle repair garage of your choice to trust and give you peace of mind. Liberty Seguros is considered the preferred expat insurer in Spain today and has an extensive network of over 300 brokers and agents, who have many years of experience, and are dedicated to give you in-depth information about the different policies not only for car, but also life, home, business, commercial, funeral, etc., and advise you on the best cover to suit you and your family, in your own language. Lets talk History

of Spain

The Revolt of the Comuneros By the time he was 20, in 1520, Charles V ruled the largest collection of European land since Charlemagne over 700 years earlier. Charles was Duke of Burgundy, King of the Spanish Empire and the Habsburg territories, which included Austria and Hungary, as well as Holy Roman Emperor; he continued to acquire more land throughout his life. Problematically for Charles, but interestingly for historians, he acquired these lands piecemeal - there was no one single inheritance - and many of the territories were independent countries with their own systems of government and little common interest. This empire, or monarchia, may have brought Charles power, but it also caused him great problems.

The Succession to Spain

Charles inherited the Spanish Empire in 1516; this included peninsular Spain, Naples, several islands in the Mediterranean and large tracts of America. Although Charles had a clear right to inherit, the manner in which he did so caused upset: in 1516 Charles became regent of the Spanish Empire on his mentally ill mother’s behalf. Just a few months later, with his mother still alive, Charles declared himself king.

Charles Causes Problems

The manner of Charles’ rise to the throne caused upset, with some Spaniards wishing for his mother to remain in power; others supported Charles’ infant brother as heir. On the other hand, there were many who flocked to the court of the new king. Charles caused more problems in the manner in which he initially governed the kingdom: some feared he was inexperienced, and some Spaniards feared Charles would focus on his other lands, such as those he stood to inherit from Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian. These fears were exacerbated by the time it took Charles to put aside his other business and travel to Spain for the very first time Charles caused other, much more tangible, problems when he arrived in 1517. He promised a gathering of towns called the Cortes that he wouldn’t appoint foreigners to important positions; he then issued letters naturalizing certain foreigners and appointed them to important positions. Furthermore, having been granted a large subsidy to the crown by the Cortes of Castile in 1517, Charles broke with tradition and asked for another large payment while the first was being paid. He’d so far spent little time in Castile and the money was to finance his claim to the Holy Roman throne, a foreign adventure feared by Castilians. This, and his weakness when it came to resolving internal conflicts between the towns and nobles, caused great upset. During the years 1520 - 21, Spain experienced a major rebellion within its Castilian kingdom, an uprising that has been described as “the largest urban revolt in early modern Europe.” (Bonney, The European Dynastic States, Longman, 1991) Although certainly true, this statement obscures a later, but still significant, rural component. There is still debate on how close the revolt came to succeeding, but this rebellion of Castilian towns - who formed their own local councils, or ‘communes’ - included a true mix of contemporary mismanagement, historical rivalry, and political self-interest. Charles wasn’t completely to blame, as pressure had grown over the last half century when towns felt themselves increasingly losing power versus the nobility and the crown.

The Rise of the Holy League

Riots against Charles had begun before he had even left Spain in 1520, and as the riots spread, towns began rejecting his government and forming their own: councils called comuneros. In June 1520, as nobles remained quiet, hoping to profit from the chaos, the comuneros met and formed themselves together in the Santa Junta (Holy League). Charles’ regent sent an army to deal with the rebellion, but this lost the propaganda war when it started a fire that gutted Medina del Campo. More towns then joined the Santa Junta. As the rebellion spread in the north of Spain, the Santa Junta initially tried to get Charles V’s mother, the old queen, on their side for support. When this failed the Santa Junta sent a list of demands to Charles, a list intended to keep him as king and both moderate his actions and make him more Spanish. The demands included Charles returning to Spain and giving the Cortes a much greater role in government.

Rural Rebellion and Failure

As the rebellion grew larger, cracks appeared in the alliance of towns as each had their own agenda. The pressure of supplying troops also began to tell. The rebellion spread into the countryside, where people directed their violence against the nobility as well as the king. This was a mistake, as the nobles who had been content to let the revolt carry on now reacted against the new threat. It was the nobles who exploited Charles to negotiate a settlement and a noble led army which crushed the comuneros in battle. The revolt was effectively over after the Santa Junta was defeated in battle at Villalar in April 1521, although pockets remained until early 1522. The reaction of Charles wasn’t harsh given the standards of the day, and the towns kept many of their privileges. However, the Cortes was never to gain any further power and became a glorified bank for the king.

The Germania

Charles faced another rebellion which occurred at the same time as the Comunero Revolt, in a smaller and less financially important region of Spain. This was the Germania, born out of a military created to fight Barbary pirates, a council which wanted to create a Venice like city state, and class with anger and a dislike of Charles. The rebellion was crushed by the nobility without much crown help.

1522: Charles Returns

Charles returned to Spain in 1522 to find royal power restored. Over the next few years, he worked to change the relationship between himself and the Spaniards, learning Castilian, marrying an Iberian woman and calling Spain the heart of his empire. The towns were bowed and could be reminded of what they had done if ever they opposed Charles, and the nobles had fought their way to a closer relationship with him.

Catalan and Portuguese Rebellion

Tensions rose between the monarchy and Catalonia over demands on them to supply troops and cash for the Union of Arms, an attempt to create a 140,000 strong imperial army, which Catalonia refused to support. When a war in the south France was begun to try and coerce the Catalans into joining, Catalonia rose in rebellion in 1640, before transferring allegiance from Spain to France. By 1648 Catalonia was still in active opposition, Portugal had taken to opportunity rebel under a new king, and there were plans in Aragon to secede. Spanish forces were only able to retake Catalonia in 1652 once French forces withdrew because of problems in France; the privileges of Catalonia were fully restored to ensure peace.

The flag of Spain (Spanish: Bandera de España), as it is defined in the Spanish Constitution of 1978, consists of three horizontal stripes: red, yellow and red, the yellow stripe being twice the size of each red stripe. Traditionally, the middle stripe was defined by the more archaic term of gualda, and hence the popular name rojigualda(redweld). The origin of the current flag of Spain is the naval ensign of 1785, Pabellón de la Marina de Guerraunder Charles III of Spain. It was chosen by Charles III himself among 12 different flags designed by Antonio Valdés y Bazán (all projected flags were presented in a drawing which is in the Naval Museum of Madrid). The flag remained marine for much of the next 50years, flying over coastal fortresses, marine barracks and other naval property. During the Peninsular War the flag could also be found on marine regiments fighting inland. Not until 1820 was the first Spanish land unit (The La Princesa Regiment) provided with one and it was not until 1843 that Queen Isabella II of Spain would make the flag official. Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, the colour scheme of the flag remained intact, with the exception of the Second Republic period (1931–1939); the only changes cantered on the coat of arms

4 Things You Shouldn’t Forget, If Buying A Holiday Home Ready to buy a home in Spain? If you’re a purchaser on the hunt for a holiday home, maybe you’re on the lookout for earning a rental income too. But, do you know all the things you should be looking for? Here are 4 important things you consider, before buying a holiday home that you’ll regret.

4. Amenities – If you want the ability to be within walking distance to a local supermarket, bars and restaurants, you need to choose your area accordingly. But remember, what’s a “mile away” to you, could be a “stones throw” to someone else! Make sure you bring up these four points with your Real Estate Agent, as they will be able to offer you suggestions or alternatives for your needs. Buying? Enjoy the journey!

1. Bedrooms – To maximize the renting potential, you need have a clear vision on how many people you’ll want to cater for. If you were to purchase a two bedroomed property, you can accommodate up to 6 people simply by putting a bed settee in the lounge. 2. Swimming Pool – If you’re planning on using your holiday home during the spring and summer months, you’ll definitely be wanting the use of a pool. Especially for any rental potential. Access to a communal swimming pool is usually high on a holidaymaker’s “must have” list. 3. Location - When deciding on an area, you need to consider these two points. A) Being closer to the beach, means you’ll be the only people there in the winter months. B) Being in a residential area, means you’ll always have amenities open throughout the year.
