Can You Earn Money Playing Video Games? – How to Make Money Playing Video Games There are thousands, no – Millions of gamers out there. Whether they’re hardcore, casual, or somewhere in between, one thing is certain – We all love and enjoy the same thing, on some level. What if you could turn a passion of yours into profit? What if you could express yourself, do what you love, and make money all at the same time? Sounds like a pretty sweet gig, right? Well, it is – Just look at some of your favorite YouTubers. Markiplier, (god forbid) Pewdiepie, the Yogscast, and some others. Today, I’m going to answer the burning question – Can You Earn Money Playing Video Games?
The short answer is yes. That’s it. Article over. Go home. Of course I’m kidding – There’s far more to it than that. All of the YouTubers I just mentioned are following just one of the many methods YOU can use to make a full-time income (Or better, if you’re an exceptionally hard worker) by playing video games. They aren’t special snowflakes, they aren’t gods among men, and most importantly – They are NOT lucky. They got where they are through persistence and hard work. They learned, just as you can, techniques and tactics they could use to boost traffic, get viewers, and most importantly – make money. It ain’t magic, and it’s not as impossible as it may seem. If fiddling around with video editing software doesn’t sound like your forte, not to worry – YouTube is just one of the many possibilities out there for you to explore. There are plenty of other potential methods you can use to make a full-time income playing video games.
Here are just a few of the dozens of methods available to you •
Affiliate Marketing – Write about products, review them, or talk about the latest
games. You make money by getting readers/viewers to purchase products through your links (You partner with some major retailers such as Amazon). •
Live Streaming – You can make money through ad revenue, donations, and
subscriptions from your viewers. Getting traction with a live stream can be a bit faster than YouTube or your own blog/website. •
YouTube – As I briefly mentioned above, YouTube can be pretty lucrative if used
correctly – Though it takes time to build a viewer base, it’s worth it in the end. Just try Googling how much cash some of your favorite YouTubers make. It’s insane! •
Blogging – This can be tied into affiliate marketing, but even on its own, blogging is
also an excellent video-game related way to make money. You can talk about the latest games you’ve been playing, gush about upcoming games, and just talk about the gaming world in general. You can use ads to monetize your blog even if you’d prefer not to bother with writing reviews and using affiliate marketing techniques. That way, as long as you get traffic to your blog (Using SEO techniques that I will explain further later on in this article),
you’ll be making money. How much depends entirely on your audience and the amount of
traffic you get. •
Video Game Tester – How cool would it be to literally get paid to play video games
ever day? While being a video game tester is not alwayssunshine and butterflies (You will often have to repeat a certain action over and over to try to trigger a certain bug or glitch so that it can be fixed), you will be playing some games that nobody else (Outside of the development team and other testers) has played yet – That alone is a pretty cool perk, if you ask me. As you can see, there’s no shortage of options out there. This short list doesn’t even include the many professional options out there, such as gaming sponsorships, winning tournaments, or joining competitive gaming teams – It’s literally impossible for me to fit all of these avenues on this one post. However, there is one place that does cover all of these methods (And more). It has stepby-step guides that go over every single aspect of making money playing video games – It covers everything from SEO techniques (Search Engine Optimization – Mostly used by bloggers and affiliate marketers to get their sites and/or YouTube channels ranked on the first page of Google) to setting up and marketing a YouTube or Twitch channel.
So…What exactly is this place?
Video Games Pay My Bills is a website designed with the sole intention of providing gamers (Like yourself) with paying job opportunities. These can be regular jobs where you get paid by the hour (You can perform INFINITEvideo game job searches for FREE), or they might be “Non-traditional” jobs such as some of the opportunities mentioned above. Here’s a sneak peek inside the members area. (Tabs blocked for privacy) Each of the buttons in the members area are effectively categories – They take you to a whole new page with tons of full guides available within. With a free membership, you can dip your toe in the water – If you decide to upgrade (For only $27 a month, with no commitment necessary, and no strings attached) to a full membership, every single one of these full, in-depth guides instantly become available to you.
If you want, you can just upgrade for the first month, learn all you want to learn, and then cancel – There aren’t any hidden cancellation fees or penalties, and there’s no limit on the amount of guides you can read at any given time. While I can’t divulge too much information on the exact contents of the program, I can say that it’s some of the best training available for any budding internet marketer, streamer, or YouTuber – In fact, as far as SEO tactics and internet marketing goes, it’s second only to one other program, which I will talk about in the very near future.
But it won’t be easy.
The trap too many people fall into (Whether they are gamers or not) is the lure of easy money. They see a shady website promising fortunes (Usually upwards of 8 grand in a couple weeks), and their spidey sense shuts off. They have “Shiny Object Syndrome”. They are promised maximum reward with minimum effort, while usually losing hundreds of dollars in the process (Though I’ve met some people who have lost thousands). If that describes you, perhaps it’s time to switch your mindset. Realize there is no such thing as easy money. Outside of getting super lucky playing Powerball, the odds of a program promising thousands of dollars for minutes of effort working out are slim to none. So stop chasing shiny objects. Are you up for a challenge? More importantly, are you ready to smash past that challenge and keep trucking? If so, keep reading. If not, this method is probably not for you.
Making money online (Gaming or otherwise) is HARD WORK – Period. It will require time and effort. It will require persistence and dedication. You will pour blood, sweat, and tears into your gaming business (That’s what you’re building, by the way – A business, one that will provide you with a consistent source of income for years to come), and you probably won’t see instant returns on your investment in the first month. While it’s possible, it’s rare. Trust (Both human and search engine trust) takes time to build. You can’t throw up a brand new YouTube channel and expect it to instantly get hundreds of
thousands o
f subs.
Go ahead and interview one of you favorite YouTubers – Send them an email. Go on, I’ll wait. Ask them how long it took to get where they were. And then ask if they regretted it. Their answer will, 99% of the time, be an unequivocal NO. They realize the value of their businesses and their brands. They realize how much power and influence they have in the gaming community. YouTubers have the power to make or break an indie game company. Sounds crazy, right? But it’s true. Just look at freakin’ Goat Simulator, or Five Nights at Freddy’s. Do you
think either of these franchises would have become so successful if YouTubers hadn’t started playing and talking about them? Hell no. While it’s possible, it would have taken a LOT more time, and a LOT more money to promote and market them to that level. Most indie game companies don’t have that kind of capital – I’ve spoken with a few indie devs myself to check my facts.
Are you ready? If you’re ready to start your journey down the road to success in the gaming industry, Video Games Pay My Bills is a spectacular place to start. It requires minimal investment to get started ($27 for a business that will pay you back over and over for years into the future is absolutely nothing).
