My assignment.
As a quick note, I just want to comment on my work for this Class 3 assignment. I have chosen a green background colour. It is eye cathing, and also a highly modern colour. The colour is used often in free software such as Limewire and Skype, and has also now become a popular colour on packaging of products. It is actually what I would call a “lime” colour, and to me, it reminds me of lemon in drinks – I.e. party time and fun. However, of course children do not have same annotations, but their parents might have. Also, not to disrupt the message, I have placed a picture from the theatre, of a dull face. The text says WIIIIII which is literally speaking calling for children. However, also older girls (mothers) might recall WIIIII as something catching – a reminder from a good situation. However, the green colour has been specifically chosen NOT to addresss only females, but be a “genderless” colour. Children already in the age of e.g. 6, are very aware of gender determined colours. I think the flyer succeeds in calling for attention. However, I find the flyer to be on the edge of a party-flyer. Maybe the culture here is different, but some nightclubs in Glasgow, would actually use similar photos etc. on their flyers, and could easily mess up the message. I have chosen round- shaped fonts that are less masculine, and in same time less “formal”. Even for children who cannot read, the WIIIIIII will get their attention, as it is different to any other words/ letters they might be able to recall, even though they do not know the meaning of the word. I hoped they would be like “LOOK MOM! WHAT IS THAT?” The advert is kinda more boring. It is very limited what you can do, so I decided to give it a wee bit of text, and also add in a thumb nail photo of the flyer, to recall the message, if they reader has seen the flyer before, and then will be able to connect the two things together.
