BREED SPECIFIC FORMULATION CHIHUAHUA (#42) The Chihuahua was developed in Chihuahua, Mexico. This breed's history is associated with the ancient Aztecs. The Chihuahua earned its keep in the temples by controlling the rodent population. The modern day Chihuahua’s life span has shortened by almost half of its ancestors. The shortened life span is attributed to it’s unique nutritional requirements not being met. (This is common amongst most breeds today) The ancestral food would have been from the native food Rain forests and jungles of Mexico and South America. Tropical fruits such as mango, avocado and rodents were plentiful in these regions and would have been a staple of the dietary intake. . The Chihuahua should be fed a diet that contains avocado, mango blended with fresh poultry, rice, broccoli and tomato. Avoid processed food and food blends containing beef, beef bi-products, beet pulp and potato.
