Avalanche Mountain Preserve 1129 Wilson Street, Boyne City bit.ly/AvalancheMt Great mountain bike trails for exploring the 300-plus acres of beautiful woodlands. The Lake Charlevoix view from the top is well worth the effort. Avalanche has 8 new miles of professionally built singletrack, in addition to the existing 5 miles of singletrack. Bear River Valley Recreation Area Quaintance Ave., Petoskey bit.ly/BearRiverVly The Bear River Valley features steep bluffs, unpaved trails, concrete path, boardwalks and forest areas all in the heart of the City of Petoskey.
Boyne City to Charlevoix Trail trailscouncil.org/boyne-city-charlevoix-trail Phase 1, a 10-foot-wide paved non-motorized trail parallel to, but detached from Boyne City/Charlevoix Road, was completed in 2016. This phase begins at the Boyne City limits at W. Michigan Avenue, extends through Young State Park, and runs to the Evangeline/Bay Township line at Springwater Beach Road for a distance of 3.04 miles. Phase 2 was completed in 2017, and begins at the Little Traverse Wheelway east of Waller Road in Charlevoix Township, crosses US-31 and runs south across a series of private easements to Boyne City/Charlevoix Road east of the Argonne Supper Club. The trail then runs parallel to, but separate from Boyne City/Charlevoix Road on the north side of the road to Quarterline Road in Hayes Township for a distance of 2.97 miles. Take the family on wide, wooded trails where you can enjoy beautiful scenery and glimpses of our northern Michigan wildlife. Tour the resort on lightly trafficked roads, cycling through various neighborhoods and along the golf courses. For a more challenging ride, hop a chairlift (fees apply) to access the Boyne Highlands Bike Park. Modeled after the popular designs of the Pacific Northwest, this park features naturally cut trails with banked turns, heart-stopping jumps and narrow passages, some requiring expert skills. Bike/helmet rental are available. Call or visit the website for hours of operation. Boyne Mountain Bike Trails 1 Boyne Mountain Road, Boyne Falls 855.248.8441 ~ bit.ly/BMbike Start in the resort village or catch rides to the top, your options abound. From the resort village, a variety of short loops on flat wide trails are available; or allow additional time and experience a seven-mile paved loop, which takes you from the village to Deer Lake, along golf courses and winding through wooded terrain before ending back in the village. Catch a chairlift (fees apply) to get yourself and your bike to the top and enjoy the benefit of gravity on your return trip. From the mountain’s top, choose a paved path or downhill mountain bike trails. For an authentic mountain bike experience, grab a map and experience all 32.5 miles of marked trails. Always be on the lookout for friendly wildlife along the way. Bike, electric cart, and helmet rental are available. Boyne School Forest tommba.org Two main loops – a 3-mile beginner and a 3-mile intermediate. 2 miles of narrow advanced singletrack. Across the road is an advanced mile out and back. Trails continue to be worked on and added.
Boyne Valley Trailway Boyne Falls to Boyne City bit.ly/BoyneVlyTrail Paved 6.3 mile long, fairly flat, trail running from Boyne Mountain to Boyne City. Little Traverse Wheelway trailscouncil.org/little-traverse-wheelway Take in vistas of Lake Michigan while riding the Little Traverse Wheelway from Harbor Springs to Charlevoix. The paved, 26-mile trail leads through beautiful parks, elegant Bay Harbor and historic Bay View. There are several places along the way to pick up the trail. Maps of this trail and others are available at trailscouncil.org and michigantrailmaps.com. North Western State Trail trailscouncil.org/north-western-state-trail This 32-mile mostly flat trail runs from M-119 in Petoskey to the trailhead in downtown Mackinaw City. The 10’ wide asphalt trail is 7.5 miles, from M-119 at Spring Lake Park to downtown Alanson. Alanson to Mackinaw City surface is compacted crushed limestone.
