OFFICE PRESIDENT FROM THE
OF THE
Paul Keiswetter President & CEO
01 01
Jason Keiswetter Executive Vice President
WELCOME! Thank you for your interest in Petoskey Plastics! As you’ll quickly learn by flipping through this booklet, we’ve developed a community where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. We’re not just a collection of associates, facilities, and sales figures; we’re an interdependent team with a focus on the values that are so deeply rooted in the organization that we’ve built together. Foremost among them is family. With initial conception giving way to decades of unprecedented growth, today, we’re fortunate to celebrate our company’s considerable achievements. Along the way, generations of Keiswetters have dedicated themselves to the work that we perform – from the production floor to the Office of the President, our family is proud to have shaped Petoskey Plastics with our own hands and minds, not to mention an extensive amount of help from our peers who you’ll get to know in the following pages. Since father and son founded Petoskey Plastics in 1969, our family has grown to include everyone who has contributed to our accomplishments as a business. Now, with father and son leading the way again, we welcome you to join our team, and our family, for many more years of industry innovation, dynamic collaboration and sweeping success!”

North Central Michigan College has had a longstanding and reciprocal partnership with Petoskey Plastics that has allowed us both to make tremendous strides. The contributions that Petoskey Plastics and the Keiswetter family have made show true investment in our North Central student body and our local Petoskey community – we couldn’t be more proud to work with such a wonderful organization. Our relationship allows us to provide critical educational resources to our students, and in return, we offer the associates at Petoskey Plastics valuable training through our workforce development program. In a close-knit community like Petoskey, it’s so important to have allies that are ardent supporters of progress; our partnership with Petoskey Plastics affords both organizations opportunities otherwise beyond our reach, and fosters outstanding growth.
”
“
- Cameron Burnet-Koch, President of North Central Michigan College
Petoskey Plastics’ decision to locate in Hartford City has been incredibly successful for both the community and the company. During 2012-2015, Petoskey Plastics invested more in Blackford County than any other company in the community. This investment provided good jobs and much needed tax dollars to operate the local government and improve the quality of life for citizens.
”
- Jacob Everett, Executive Director of Blackford County Economic Development Corp.
“
The relationship between the West Hamblen Fire Department and Petoskey Plastics began in 2000, and has continued to this day. At one point during the relationship there were 5 Petoskey associates also affiliated with West Hamblen Fire Department; it even went so far as the associate’s children and wives becoming firefighters. Each Petoskey associate saw the need to volunteer in their community and did so. The donations provided by Petoskey to West Hamblen are used for things such as firefighter equipment, fuel for the fire trucks, daily operations etc. With the West Hamblen Fire Department it shows that Petoskey lives their mission statement [when it comes to earning the appreciation and respect of] their associates and communities.
”
- Mark Hickman, Fire Chief at West Hamblen Fire Department

years of service
At Petoskey Plastics we know the value of recognizing the dedication and success of our associates. And on their milestone anniversaries, every five years, we like to remind them of how much their support means to us by putting them in the spotlight, and taking some time to celebrate their years of devoted service.
Here’s a peak at what dedication looks like
at Petoskey Plastics. Over 40 associates have given us 10 years or more, and the numbers are growing each year!
I
’ve been a supervisor for a total of 15 years, and my people they all work together, they’re a team... I told Jim, ‘if you try to fire me, I’m tying myself to one of these beams out here. I ain’t leavin’. So if you fire me, I’m still coming back. MARK HICKMAN 15 years

went to the temp service and came in the door as one of just 5 sorters. I stayed on as a temp sorter for 1 1/2 years because I knew there would be a postion for me in Recycle as the plant began to grow. I trained while still a temp sorter and when the second Recycle line came in, I was brought on full time as an Operator. I worked my way up through the recycle department and soon became the Shift Leader on B shift. Shortly after becoming the Shift Lead, a Supervisor position became available. I have held the position of Supervisor for nearly 2 years now. I always try to encourage new associates to get involved and look for ways to learn and grow. There is always great opportunity for advancement here.

I started working for Petoskey by answering the phones, and then I moved up and helped out in customer service. Once customer service was moved to our corporate office, I moved into Quality where I moved up from being a QA Tech to a QA Leader with four girls working under me – a lot of opportunity to move up!... It really helped a lot being in different areas.
I started out at Petoskey Plastics as an Accounting Coordinator helping out in A/P and A/R. I was promoted soon after to be the Assistant to the Controller. I learned a lot about benefits, budgets, taxes, grant writing, financing, accounting and working with cross-functional teams. My involvement and interest in analyzing and administering associate benefits had me closely working with the HR Department. When the opportunity became available for a newly created role, it was a great next step to become the HR and Benefits Manager. I held that position for 7 years managing the HR team, administering payroll and benefits, and working closely with the HR Committee to implement policies. When our previous Director of Organizational Development decided to leave the company to pursue her own business, I was promoted to Director of Human Resources, which is where I am at today. I’ve learned so much along the way from the Executive Committee, HR Team, and Accounting group. Every day seems to bring something new and I love working with such great people throughout the company!

I reached out to Petoskey Plastics when I learned that the plant I was working at in Mancelona was closing. That was nine years ago. I made it through the several month interviewing process, and was fortunate enough to get a job offer for the maintenance supervisor position. I worked for about a year as the maintenance manager before I started traveling to the other plants to help with engineering support for screw changes, die cleanings etc.. After a year of working with all three plants, I was promoted to the engineering manager working with all three facilities maintenance and engineering teams. Last year, my role changed again and I was able to start working with and managing the design group. Just within the past month, I was promoted to the Director of Engineering working with Design, Engineering, and Maintenance. I work with an amazing team of associates who implement the growth and improvement strategies of the Executive Management Team. I am extremely proud of this company and all of the amazing people that make it “feel” the way it feels. It is the smiling faces, selfless cooperation, that “can do” spirit, and personal compassion for each other that is the legacy of this companies mission statement, “earning the appreciation and respect of our customers, communities, and associates.

Well, when I first started at Petoskey plastics, it was as a packer (I had just left the retail grocery business and was considering going back to school). Shortly thereafter an operator trainee position opened up and I applied for it. They gave me a shot and I started with Ted Hendricks as my supervisor & Steve Halberstat as my trainer. I owe much and more to Ted & Steve. They helped me learn many of the mechanics of blown film. One particular highlight of my 1st year was a presentation that I gave to all four shifts on bulk chemical transportation (boring topic but necessary for certain safety procedures). I quickly learned that there is always something extra that needs to be done, and that motivated associates could distinguish themselves easily. I have gained invaluable troubleshooting skills from being an operator, and reinforced my knowledge that certain skills -organization, working with a sense of urgency, and respecting your fellow associates and the process- will help you succeed in any work environment.
