A diverse community of learners Outreach Scholarship Program
The Outreach Scholarship Program is well aligned with Nishimachi’s Strategic Intents, which reflects positively on the foresight of school leaders nearly 20 years ago when it was established. This year, faculty and administrators worked diligently on Strategic Intents 1, 2, and 3 to prepare action plans which will determine our school’s initiatives for the next 3 years. Intent 3 (Long Term Sustainability) explored optimal enrollment, in an attempt to ensure sound financial planning and the ability to incorporate plans from the other strategic initiatives.
Enrolling students from diverse backgrounds is the cornerstone of the Outreach Program and the working group for Long Term Sustainability continues to identify diversity as a very important goal for our educational institution. The ability to offer students and families financial support, in an effort to defray the cost of one-time fees and/or ongoing tuition and fees is a strength of Nishimachi’s among international schools in Tokyo. The Outreach Program continues to highlight the long standing values of our school, reflected in our mission, guiding statement and the vision of Miss Matsukata to be a diverse community of learners.
We are grateful to the many who support this program and make it possible through donations. Because of you we are able to offer scholarships that broaden the diversity of our school community. Learning with and from each other is made all the more rewarding when we share perspectives from different life experiences and different cultural backgrounds. We look forward to furthering the impact of the Outreach Program by offering more opportunities for enrollment to those who bring diversity, in its many forms, and benefit from financial assistance in order to access an international school education.
“Nishimachi may be a small school, but it is full of people with the biggest and warmest hearts.”
– Outreach Scholarship recipient 2013
Did you know that Nishimachi International school offers scholarships to qualifying students? If the cost of one-time fees or tuition and fees makes an international education out of reach for a family, Nishimachi has a long-standing program in place to support the desire to enroll at an international school. Our Outreach Scholarship Program strives to bring diversity to the classroom and has provided students from a variety of backgrounds with partial or full scholarships since 2003. We welcome applications to our Outreach Scholarship Program for the upcoming school year. Scholarship amounts are based on a variety of factors and can be awarded to cover the costs of tuition and/or one-time fees. Record-Breaking Success: 2023 Nishimachi-Kai BBQ
A large crowd of enthusiastic alumni filled the courtyard for the Nishimachi-Kai BBQ Reunion, on June 17th. Drawn by the traditional yakiniku menu and the opportunity to reconnect with classmates, friends, and former faculty, the crowd swelled to over 300 spirited guests - the largest crowd anyone can recall! This record-breaking attendance highlights our strong alumni community brought together by tradition, good food, old friends, and a shared passion for our school.
Long-serving teachers and former faculty joined with excitement and a bit of uncertainty as they contemplated remembering many former students after years apart. With each encounter the memories flooded back allowing them to reconnect and catch-up on news of careers, family life, and the lasting impact of Nishimachi on their students’ lives. Teachers finished the day filled with pride about their own work and the wonderful alumni of our school.
For activities, the Ushiba Memorial Gymnasium was the site of the annual basketball game, and those new to the event were impressed that alumni of all ages could join in the same game, echoing the Nishimachi spirit of one big family. New this year was access to the Matsukata House Museum, where our school story unfolds. Alumni were particularly interested in the digitized Ayumi’s available on the large screen. NishimachiKai is proud to have contributed the digitized yearbooks to the museum, a wonderful gathering space for visiting alumni to reminisce and current students to learn our school’s history.
We look forward to seeing many of you again at our next big Nishimachi-Kai event - the Alumni Cafe at Nishimachi’s Food Fair, on Saturday, October 28, 2023. The Nishimachi-Kai Board hosts the Cafe and we need your help! Email us at nishimachi-kai@nishimachi.ac.jp to volunteer. Set-up, clean-up and hosting are all tasks where volunteers make a difference. Come along and make new connections while volunteering!
