Above: Here are some “fantasy” PEZ that you can not mistake for real PEZ releases. On Right: This is a bad attempt to fake a Lucy w/white eyes-got it in a collection that I recently bought. Below: The PEZ-a-saurs I had gotten in a collection, they look better with matching colored stems. They don’t appear to be stem swaps. The white Bunny is my first attempt at making my own resin PEZ dispenser head. On right is Zoe, notice one of them is on a mini stem. This doesn't appear to be a stem swap, I got it from the family of a former PEZ employee. Is it a real “test piece” or an employee playing around. Don’t know, but interesting for sure! Bottom: The rigs- I swapped around the stems and made interesting color combinations.

Letters to the Editor Hi Richie, Great newsletter, Keep up the good work. I know its very time consuming. I used to help with the “Campbell Collectors of the West” newsletter. I am sending you a slot card from Arizona. So you ever get any from South Carolina or anywhere else? I would love to trade if you do. Take care and have a great summer! Jane Bernston 4719 N. Iroquis Ave Tucson, AZ 85705 Hi Jane, Thank you for the kind words and the slot card. Sorry, I don’t have any gambling casinos here. I am printing your letter and address so hopefully there is some collector reading this that does and will contact you. Please update me if you find any. Good luck! Richie

Hi Rich, A few months ago I found out that Antiques Roadshow was coming to Orlando. I put in and won two tickets to the show and of course I thought of PEZ. I was hoping I would get picked for the show, so I could help collectors to come out of hiding. So more would learn about all of the groups, newsletter and conventions that rare out there. Well, that didn't happen. They put a lot of short shots in. What I mean is they will show a chair someone brought in and they have a very short intro about the chair and what it was appraised for. This is what happened to me. While I was showing off a case of no feet PEZ dispensers I brought, they were filming behind me. It will be shown on the show in 2017. But all you will see is the case and a gusstimated value. Well, at least it was on the show. The appraiser was cool about it and said he hasn't seen that many at one time. There will be three shows from Orlando, but we will have to wait until next year to see it.. Gary Saak Hi Gary, As I said, I would pass on this info so others will keep an eye open next year for a PEZ sighting. At least they did a shot of the PEZ. You made out better than most people that brought stuff in I bet. Gary also brought out a good point in another conversation we had. He was wondering what PEZ will do next year as far as a new President PEZ. Do you think they will release just the one dispenser of the new President? Maybe a two pack? Interesting question for sure! We will see in 2017. Richie

Hi Richie, Question for you. My PEZ are packed in my grandstands pretty tight. Many of their heads touch slightly. Is this going to be a problem? I don’t want some weird color transfer or chemical reaction to happen. So far I don’t see any problem. For that matter I also have loose PEZ in a bin too. They are fairly current (90’s & older) if that makes a difference. Thanks for your help. Celeste Coffelt Hi Celeste, Great question– anyone out there have damage from displaying PEZ like this? If so, lets hear it so we can share the info. I have not seen any damage from displaying like this. I have my vintage PEZ jammed in together, touching. The only dispenser I would worry about is softheads touching other PEZ. They are rubber, rubber objects can cause melts to PEZ dispensers. I have plastic bins with PEZ in my hot South Carolina attic. Some PEZ are in cello package and some loose. The only thing I worry about is non-US candy and US Sourz candy getting soft, turning to liquid. The only odd thing I have seen is white plastic on some dispensers can change color for no apparent reason. In a cardboard box, metal tin or in box with 100 other PEZ for the same amount of time and it might change shade or discolor. Most important, keep your PEZ out of the sunlight. UV rays will damage them. Richie

COVER: On the cover & back page are pictures from the “PEZmitzvah” of a very special young man, Sam Prince. As you can see his family went “all out” for the PEZmitzvah of The “Prince of PEZ”. There was a life size stand-up of Sam in his PEZ wear to greet his guests, which then entered through a Sam/PEZ candy pack balloon entrance. Marking the tables were huge Sam/PEZ Candy pack table center pieces and they even made a very special video of Sam for this special event which included scenes from the Northeast PEZ Convention. Yes, they even had a cake that looked like a PEZ candy pack. Did you even doubt that?

PEZ Variations I hope you all are having a PEZ filled and happy summer ! Did you notice that there is another world cup soccer championship going on. They are so much fun to watch. Hope your favorite team wins. Throughout the years, PEZ Inc. has issued many different soccer ball dispensers during the years the World Cup was held. The following soccer balls were released to honor the World Cup: In 2006, there was a gold soccer ball released to honor the 2006 Italian team that won the world cup that year. The gold soccer ball was on a gold stem with the Italian flag printed on the stem along with WM 2006. (pictured on right) In 2008, 4 soccer balls were issued with the year 2008 printed on the stem. The stem colors were red, white, white with a red stripe and red with a white stripe. (Pictured below left) In 2012, 3 soccer balls were issued with the year 2012 printed on a red, white or blue stem. These were issued in France, and are very hard to find. In 2014, 2 soccer balls were issued with the year 2014 printed on a red or white stem. These were issued by the Swiss folks. In addition, 3 additional soccer balls were released to honor the German team who won the 2014 world cup. These soccer balls were on a black gold and red stem. In 2016, 3 soccer balls were issued with the year 2016 printed on a red, white or blue stem. These were issued in France. The soccer balls are relatively easy to find, though the 2012 soccer balls may take some detective work to locate and purchase. Collect them all, they are fun to collect !!!

Happy Pezzing !!! John Laspina

What’s Happening! Happy summer everyone! Hope this finds everyone in good spirits and good health. Don’t forget, if going to be out in the sun make sure you use sunscreen. That was our public service announcement for this issue, now onto what’s happening in the PEZ world. Reader Contest Wow, you guys surprised me. More people sent in than I thought would have. We had about fifty entries. Some of them were very, very good! To be fair to all that submitted entries, I did not do the judging. I let Mary read them and pick twenty good ones. We will be sending something special to twenty lucky readers. All of them were really, really good reading. I’m going to print some of them in the next few issues to share your stories. The stories we print might not be one of the winners. I’m choosing which ones to print in the newsletter. Just because you don’t get something in the mail or get your entry printed in the newsletter doesn’t mean it wasn’t good. They all were good! Its funny, we had people write one word answers to several pages full of personal thoughts. All of it was good stuff, I really enjoyed reading them all. Thank you all for sending in! New PEZ There are two big Candy Trade Shows where PEZ debuts their “future releases” to the candy buying market. PEZ

Austria debuts their new items at the ISM Cologne show in Germany which is held February each year. PEZ US debuts their new stuff at the Sweets and Snack Expo in Chicago May each year. This year, PEZ US showed off some new stuff to the public and we also got a look at some stuff that we knew would be coming. First, PEZ had another special dispenser for the show, check it out below. For those of us that were not there to grab one of those cool dispensers, we will just have to drool over the picture. So, what can we expect in the near future? As previously reported we will be seeing the second release of Transformers (shipping end of July). They should be the same as the recently released Euro Transformer dispenser set. In September we will see the new Trolls line (one of the heads will be crystal) and the Star Wars Rogue gift set. December will bring us the new Power Rangers set. For the Holidays, at Halloween look for a revised Witch and at Christmas look for a red Hat Elf. Remember, last year I painted an Elf and made my own “Elf on a Shelf” PEZ dispenser with a red hat. Also for Christmas, there will be a green hat Penguin. Remember, the current one is light blue. So this brings us to some of the new things we will see in 2016. There was plenty new stuff on display for 2017. But that doesn’t mean they are written in stone. (Con’t on next page)

PEZ Collector’s News (Con’t from previous page) Sometimes licensees don’t like samples, or maybe movie release dates change. Changes happen. So, let’s see…. Valentine’s Day you never know what changes we will see in the Valentine’s Day mix. As always, Valentine Hearts we might see variations in the writing or colors. Now that they added Emoji’s to the mix, we could always see some of them change in the mix. At the candy show there was three new Emoji faces on display. One on display was in crystal, but who knows what others they will make in crystal colors. For Easter there will be a couple dispensers revised. There will be a revised Lamb, a revised Egg (new graphic) and a revised Lamb mini dispenser. Rounding out the Holiday mixes for 2017, Christmas we will see a new Angel available in regular and mini size. For years I have been

Pg. 7 saying that PEZ should add hangars/ loops to the top of the head of a PEZ dispenser so they can be used as a tree ornaments. They are finally taking part of my idea (they really don’t listen to me -I just want to say they do) and they are putting Christmas mini dispensers inside a ball with a loop on the top so this can be used as a Christmas tree ornament. Interesting twist on my simple idea. Now in the licensed character lines, there are a few things worth mentioning. PEZ will be re-releasing the Smurfs as regular dispensers and also be releasing Click n Play Smurf sets. Pictures of the sets also make mention of a new flavor candy, sour blue raspberry. Mary likes the sourz so I will have to keep her away from that! So, back to Click n Play. Hmm, that is very interesting. Wonder if this opens the doors for other Click n Play dispensers in the US, such as Pooh or other PEZ dispenser releases. I hope not, I like conventional, head/stem type dispensers. Two new dispensers will be added to the Despicable Me line and it’s possibe we might see them as (2 dispenser or 3 dispenser sets) gift sets or a combination of that. MarvelGuardians of the Galaxy will get at least two dispensers added to the Marvel line and Aquaman will also be added. Talking comic, DC Comics will get DC Girls, a line of teenage girl Superheroes. Wonder Woman, Batgirl, Harley Quinn and Supergirl. Looks like 2017 will be another good year for new PEZ releases in the US! PEZ Collector Cruise At the Northeast Convention we put feelers out to see if there was enough interest to put together another PEZ Collector Cruise. We had two previous cruises and had a great time! You know what they say, “three times a charm!” (Con’t on next page)

PEZ Collector’s News (Con’t from previous page) There was MORE than enough interest and its taking off thanks to social media. Mary has been busy since the convention getting cruise details worked out. In this issue you will see an ad with all of the information for our 2017 PEZ Collector Cruise. We will be ready to book the first week of August. So if interested, please put a deposit down to secure a spot and you will secure the early bird price we are getting now. Don’t miss the boat!

Dropping PEZ I guess it was about two years ago I told you about a new idea, a way I found to help display PEZ on a flat wall. I took little Velcro stickers/round tabs and put them on the wall and the back of the dispenser. Slowly, the Velcro is coming off the back of the heads. I have them in my stairway going up to my office on the second floor. Sometimes in the middle of the night I will hear a PEZ dispenser fall from the wall, plop onto my stairs. It startled me at first. A strange sound that wakes you up in the middle of the night, you jump Fantasy PEZ up! Then, I figured out what the noise It’s that time of year, summer flea was. As I sit here, telling you about my market show time. I just want to predicament I think its time to fix it. I make mention that there seems to be grabbed a small bottle of “color changmore people making custom PEZ out ing” liquid Crazy Glue I have. Took there. (Con’t from previous page) Europe. Now, I don’t know if it’s me, but that price seems to be creeping up too. Right now, it cost me about $3.25 to send the newsletter (letter rate) to Europe. It was about $2.50 not too long ago. Postage to mail a PEZ dispenser used to cost about $15 to Europe. Now I am seeing its costing $22.75 to send a package to Europe for a package that is less than one pound. PEZ in the News Susan reported that a friend from Canada told her they were watching a boxing match and the announcer said, “That rocked his head like a PEZ dispenser”. I find that a very interesting comment from a Canadian Sportscaster, since PEZ is not as easy to find up there as it is here. Hmm, maybe they live in the US? In May, a U.K. toy blog wrote about 31 year old, PEZ collector Adam Reynolds from the U.K. They say that Adam has a large collection each. Plus shipping of course, but I checked and and has spent Cash or Credit? they would have only charged me $7.95 shipping about $26,000 US for both sets! Reasonable shipping cost. Back by popular on his PEZ collecdemand, we are tion. He sports a taking credit cards again for the newsPEZ tattoo on his arm, wants to visit letter, convention registrations and even the PEZ Factory in Austria and come our PEZ dispenser sales. When we to the US and visit the Burlingame were taking credit cards in the past, it Museum in California. Interesting, was a major expense and a pain. The why not the PEZ Visitor Center? credit card machine had to be hooked up to a land line telephone and there were PEZ on eBay minimum monthly fees and more at that There were few high end sales that I time. Then Pay Pal came into the piccould see. An Obelix dispenser ture and that seemed easier to use. Then $2,046.11, a Purple headed Cow A our choices were for you to use Pay Pal $666.23, a Hippo sold for $892.88, a (online) or you could send in a check Mary Poppins $985, PEZ Pal Groom thru the mail, the old school way. We $535 and another sold for $460 and a recently found a new, affordable way to red head Panda $430. The convention take credit again. So far, it’s working dispensers have been hot sales on good. If you prefer to use credit card, eBay, going for more than I would just give us a call and we can renew (Con’t on next page) your subscription that way.

18th NE PEZ Convention I would have never thought in a million years I would be sitting here telling you about what happened at the 18th Northeast PEZ Convention. What is really crazy, between this convention and the Myrtle Beach convention I have hosted THIRTY ONE conventions and two PEZ theme cruises. It just blows my mind how quick they come and go. We have met so many nice people thru the years and seeing their faces makes it all worthwhile. Thank you to everyone for supporting us (and PEZ collecting) all these years. We have some really big news that came out of the convention to share with you. First, we are moving the convention to the end of June. I hate changing things, but this is a good change. Now we will have a steady date, no more bouncing around because of holidays. The best part of the change is you will be able to make it a PEZ/family vacation and hit the PEZ Visitors center while on your PEZcation! It’s a Pezcation! We have some exciting things planned for 2017 already- I’m excited! Mary and I got to the convention hotel on Monday and on Tuesday we were on our way to the PEZ Visitors Center. We had to check it out and pick up goodies for the 19th and 20th Anniversary conventions. Yes, I plan and work on things that far in advance. Got back to the hotel later that day and of course we shopped the area to see what PEZ were in the local stores. Remember, it’s newsletter research! Wednesday, we opened the convention hospitality room and got to see our Pezzy friends again this year. Most important, the early attendees got to see the very special “PEZ Collector Convention Exclusive” that PEZ had offered to us this year. First, a big thank you to PEZ for offering us this very special dispenser this year. After

years of not offering the US Conventions one, this year they did. So, this is a very special dispenser for sure! This was unexpected and a very pleasant surprise. It was a great thing for US convention attendees. But it sure did cause me a headache. What to do with it? I already had our own “Convention Exclusive” dispenser made and packed away. Demand was very high, too high. Once word got out, everyone was contacting us. Due to the extremely high demand (and cost), we had to make this special dispenser available to preregistered attendee (1 per) only. Looking back, maybe I should have purchased double the number I did. One very big drawback with that, it would have flooded the market and made the dispenser not have a collectible value. To me, the whole idea of a “special convention dispenser or convention goodie” is to mark the date with a memento of your attending that event. It gives you something to look back at and remember. I want to give everyone that comes to the convention a valuable collectible, something that is worth something. Thursday is always a busy day, a (Con’t on next page)

PEZ Collector’s News

It’s Real? Funny thing, when I first saw pictures of this dispenser on a web site I figured it was a 3D printed dispenser, not really made by PEZ. Look at him, scary isn’t it? As it turns out the information I saw was correct. It is a real PEZ dispenser that is made for Scitec Nutrition to help them promote their BCAA Chews. You get three packs of these chews, that come in the shape of PEZ candy. The person/dispenser head on it is Ben Pakulski, he is a body builder. The article I saw stated “Scitec Nutrition has created custom PEZ dispensers based on the faces of its biggest athletes.” “The brand has confirmed that Pakilski’s PEZ wont actually be alone for too long as more are on the way.” Pictured top right is Ben PEZ and the front of the card. Below is a picture of the chew pack, the chews opened and PEZ candy bricks on the bottom row. Below right is the back of the card with the nutrition information for the chews. It seems that this dispenser will only be available outside of the US. What is weird about this, remember it wasn't that long ago that PEZ did not make real people. Slowly that changed. Now, they are doing this?

Cool Idea & Good Deal too! Check out this little bag of PEZ goodies I picked up on my trip to the PEZ Visitors Center. I believe its only available at PEZ. As the package says, it’s the “Disney PEZ Mystery Pack”. When you open it up inside there is 5 PEZ dispensers and 5 packs of candy. In this bag I got 5 different flavors. The bag retiled for $5.99. Think about that, it’s a great deal for those people shopping at PEZ for their friends or family. An instant Disney PEZ collection with a sweet treat! I give it two PEZ dispensers, I mean five PEZ dispensers up! PS-as we go to press, I now hear collectors are now finding this at the store “Five Below”. Happy hunting!

Sugar Life Down south you see a lot of stickers on cars with “Salt Life”. Well on the door of this store it’s called “Sugar Life”. Catchy, maybe I should get that on my license plate? Or, maybe not…. This is another new, candy store in my area that I had the pleasure of visiting. This one is actually called “Sugar Life Ice Cream and Candy Shop”. It was next door to a bagel shop that we stopped in a few months ago, but they were closed at the time. As I peered into the store with my face pressed against the glass, it looked interesting. I guess it was off season or we were just too early at that time. I made a mental note that I would have to return and that we did! We made a bagel stop one day for lunch and hit the candy store for some desert. It was an interesting place. It has a good assortment of cool candy and part of it is an ice cream shop. So being near the beach and located on a corner they should do very well. As we walked around the store, they had the usual stuff, then in the middle of the store. I found a rack with some Jelly Belly Jelly Beans, bagged PEZ and PEZheadz. My kind of store. Then there it was, on the back wall of the store was a good assortment of carded PEZ. They also had Hello Kitty and Ninja Turtle Giant PEZ. I’m sorry I don’t remember the prices, but remember it was reasonable. It was worth the trip to see the store.

Favorite PEZ Contest-The Stories

Above: This picture is from Judy’s Contest submission. Again, just because we are printing it, they might not be one of the winners chosen by our judge.

As Judy writes, “My first favorite PEZ was Mr. Ugly, but I knew it would be a long time before I could afford one of those so I changed my choice of favorite PEZ to something I knew I would like and have liked for many years so I can collect them. I have always lived in the country and liked to watch the wild bunnies around my yard. When growing up I raised rabbits for show for show at the local fair. When we started collecting in December 2001, I knew I would have to see if they would have some PEZ bunnies and when going on eBay I had seen the long eared Bunny and thought to myself I hope they make others I don’t really like the style of this, but I started collecting them anyway. Then PEZ made a bunny I liked very much and it made me very happy so I started to collecting them and now I have 1340 of them and still collecting. I buy and trade every week to get my bunny fix and will not slow down, until I hit my lucky number of bunnies and at this time that number has not been determined.” (Wow-1300 Bunnies and of course they all don’t fit in the picture but look at them all! Thank you for sharing Judy) Michelle writes, “My favorite PEZ dispenser is my first dispenser, Dino from the Flintstones. He’s over 20 years old now and chipped and yellowed, but I still love it and keep him proudly displayed with my real vintage PEZ like Snow White and Scrooge McDuck. I started collecting in High School because a boy I liked was a collector and I wanted something to talk about with him! The crush faded, but a true love of PEZ was born. I’ve got over 600 dispenser at last count– and of course a full set of the Flintstones dispensers now! I would love to add a PCN dispenser to the mix! Thanks for all of the great PEZ info and for fun contests like this one!” (Very nice story Michelle. I don’t know what I like better the part of the story that you started to collect because of the boy or that you still have that very special Dino PEZ. It special for sure! Thank you for sharing) (More Stories- Con’t on next page)

(Con’t from previous page) Pat writes, “ My favorite PEZ dispenser is a mint, footless 2.6 PEZ Pal Fireman. He is not my favorite just because of his cute smile, but because he was given to me by a friend who is no longer with us. My friend, Gloria, told me that he husband always kept this PEZ dispenser on his desk and when he passed away she just couldn't get rid of it, so I felt very honored that she would entrust this little guy to me. Every time I look at him I think of Gloria and her wonderful smile.” (What a nice story Pat and that Fireman sure is a special one!) As Irene writes, “I don’t have a favorite PEZ dispenser, I like them all, but Donald Duck is the most memorable one for me. When my Daughter was about two years old while shopping at the store she pulled this dispenser off the shelf and was saying “ducka, ducka” and didn't want to let go of it. Of course, we bought it for her and that’s how my PEZ collecting started.” (Wow– now that’s what its all about. PEZ makes so many memories that we all hold special to our hearts. Thank you for sharing Irene) Elaine writes, “ My favorite PEZ is the Softhead Wonder Woman mostly because of my Daughter’s total fascination with the whole Wonder Woman concept. Kim was born in 1974 and the Wonder Woman TV show starring Lynda Carter began in 1975, lasting until 1979. “The New Adventures of Wonder Woman” became a weekly must see commodity in our house, with Kim sporting her Wonder Woman Underoos just for the occasion. In the late 70’s the PEZ Company conveniently developed the Softhead Super heroes set of 5 characters including guess who?...Wonder Woman, of course!! You can be sure that Kim found this little treasure in her Christmas stocking! Such unduplicated JOY and total ENTHRALLMENT! Yea!! (By the way, this “same” little hem, in all it’s glory, now adorns my Super Hero PEZ collection and every time I look at her, I can not help but remember the excitement in my young Daughter’s eyes that Christmas morning so many years ago!” (I love it… the fond memories attached to these simple pieces of plastic. I think we are uncovering why we collect them. Time for more some more entries and wait till you read the next one!) Patty writes, “As I’m sure most would say, it’s just too hard to pick out only one favorite dispenser when we all have SO MANY!! The contest brings me a smile as I remember the many special PEZ moments that I’ve had over the years. Trying to choose one favorite made me realize something important about my PEZ habit, uh, oops, I mean, hobby. My favorites are not really about the dispensers themselves, but the memories of how they landed in my collection. Some examples for me are: Buying my first non-footed dispenser at a Flea Market (Mickey Mouse $5). Going to Cleveland for the first time, back in 1997, I felt like a kid in a candy store! Taking my kids to Pezamania 15 years later, a great family vacation! The time my sister brought back a lot of “vintage” dispenser for me from an antique shop she saw on vacation, she spent $100 on Charlie Brown, Woodstock, Spiderman and a Truck C (she believed the dealer because he showed her the copyright date on Charlie Brown’s hat! Aargh!) Lesson learned. Buying a very damaged Jiminy Cricket PEZ from a local shop for $20, because at that time that was the closest I would ever get, lol. Watching countless eBay auction down to the second, with fingers crossed (sometimes hoping I’d win other times praying I’d be outbid! Lol) My first trip to the PEZ (Con’t on next page)

(Con’t from previous page) Visitors Center. So many PEZ driven road trips. All of the PEZ given to me by friends and family who tell me, “I saw this and thought of you” as they wait for me to say excitedly for me to say weather that one was ’one I had or not’. Hah, good thing there’s no law against little white lies– because not only do I usually have the dispenser they found, but I probably have every variation of it loose, MOC and MIB! And many more wonderful memories! But since this is a contest about picking ONE favorite, I would have to say, mine is the Blue Arithmetic regular I got at Pezamania 20. My Father was a mathmetician, and I bought it the summer after he passed away. It sits proudly, in front and center on my ’top shelf’ PEZ. Thanks for inspiring the trip down memory lane. And moreover, thank you for your dedication to publishing PCN for so many years. I have been a subscriber for more than 15 years and I still look forward to every issue!” (Thank you Patty for sharing and the kind words. I’m still enjoying PEZ and doing the newsletter and reading inspiring stories such as the ones people sent in for the contest. Thank you!) Renee writes, “My Favorite PEZ dispenser(s) are the Duck Nephews, Huey, Dewey and Louie. I started attending the Northeast PEZ Gathering in 1999. I had so much fun, I started bringing my 11 year old Nephew Chris to the convention in 2000. We signed in as “The Aunt and the Nephew”. Years Chris didn't come, I signed in as “The Aunt minus the Nephew”. I wear hats and the Duck Nephews all wear hats. Over the past 18 years of attending your convention in Connecticut, my nephew and I have won 3 of your Pezingo games. Inside the prize winnings, each time, was a Duck Nephew! This year, the red Hatted Huey was in my Pezingo winnings-and you wonder why I like the Duck Nephews? It’s your fault!!” (Hmm, so you won Pezingo three times and all three had Duck Nephews. I know it’s a sign but really what are the odds of that happening? I’m sitting here scratching my head wondering how that can happen-its ???) Theresa writes, “I’m finally ready to submit my entry into your Favorite PEZ Contest! This was not an easy decision but here is mine: About a week after deciding to start a PEZ collection, I came across an odd yet very cool looking PEZ in a junk shop. The store owner dropped a few bucks off the price so I bought it despite being convinced it was most likely a fake. Someone probably broke the head off a real PEZ and replaced it with a gumball toy. I mean..the head was made of rubber!?? On the way home, I had to laugh at myself for foolishly spending 8 dollars on a fake PEZ. Several days later I purchased a book on collecting PEZ and was completely stunned to discover the PEZ was actually real and worth well over 150 dollars! Score!! There are lotz of PEZ on my wish list and many in my collection I could easily call favorite but Eerie Specter’s rubberheaded Zombie takes the prize since it also the most memorable real PEZ dispenser I own. BTW: The Zombie is the only true “score!!” I’ve ever made yet here I am, nearly two decades later, still on the hunt and as enthusiastic as ever to add new, old and the occasional hand-crafted PEZ to an ever growing collection! (Thank you Theresa for sharing and that is a great find for any collector, much less a new collector. As I read it I thought for sure you were going to tell us you got taken advantage of. I remember seeing “doctored” PEZ being sold at flea markets way back when. The seller/dealer telling me they were experts to sell me their junk. Good story for sure!) (Con’t on next page)

PEZ Collector’s News (Cont from previous page) Check out the submission pictured on the right. Wonder what his favorite PEZ is? On right, Joe writes, “My favorite PEZ dispenser is the Wounded Soldier. Six years ago, I was in my second year as a School Counselor. The economy tanked and schools began to make staff cuts in response. With only two years of experience I was at the bottom of the union pecking order. My pink slip came and I was forced out of the school I was quite fond of. On the last day of school my Principal presented me with a Wounded Soldier, having overheard me in the staff room wishing for one. I thought it was one of the most generous and thoughtful gifts I had ever received from an employer (other than a pay raise). Since that gift was received, I thought he might need friends, so I matched him with Daniel Boone and an Uncle Sam. I am hoping to add Betsy Ross and Paul Revere in the near future. For the romantics out there, perhaps I too was a Wounded Soldier in loosing my job..oh 2008!” Jeff writes, “My favorite dispenser is the Wolverine. The reason for that is my Daughter gave it to me telling me that it was a duplicate for her. That was my first dispenser and I now have over 600 dispensers. More importantly, collecting PEZ is something we do together. That’s why the dispenser is so special to me.” Brenda writes, “When I’m asked what my favorite PEZ dispenser is, my standard answer is the most current PEZ dispenser that I have purchased. Today it would have to be the Wonder

Taste Test! I bought this candy pack, first because it is interesting looking. It’s a new non-US candy flavor and its my job to bite the bullet and try this stuff and report to you. First impression, the graphics are pretty nice, it’s a shiny silver and smoked colored candy pack. The candy has been sitting on my desk for a little while. I just happen to look on the back and saw the expiration date is 11/2016. So, before it goes bad, or looses its flavor I opened it up. The candy has a brownish color. For this test, I even asked Mary to try some. If you like black licorice then you will love this candy. Mary didn't like it, but she doesn't like black licorice. I don’t like black licorice either, but it does have the right taste. It tastes just like black licorice. I was one of those kids, that when it came to candy with that flavor I used to pass on it. Necco wafers has so many good flavors in the candy pack, but it also has black licorice. I didn’t eat them as a kid and I still don’t eat them. I just opened up the second pack and had a couple pieces to see if I was wrong on first impression. Still haven't changed my opinion. If you like black licorice, then this is for you. For me, I will not be eating any more of this flavor candy. Time to put it away, move on. This is the first time I have not liked a PEZ flavor.

New Body Parts? When I first heard about these I was disappointed. Now that I see them, they are new and improved. Do not think of these as body parts. They are easy to assemble and each Ninja Turtle comes with bendable/ movable arms with special weapons for action figure like play time. These “connectibles” come with one dispenser, the outfit and three packs of candy. The big question is; since this is a cross over/ interactive toy where will it end up in stores? What stores will carry it? Just candy stores or toy stores too? Will

they show up in the toy isle, candy isle or neither since they cost more than your normal PEZ dispenser? I like them and have good news about them. At the Sweets and Snack Expo PEZ had Transformers and My Little Pony Connectibles on display with a 2017 release date on them! Hopefully they make it big and bring some new collectors the PEZ collecting hobby. (Below-see how easily it snaps together)

Pictured here is one Phyllis’s chromed dispensers packaged with an “As Seen on TV” logo with pictures of Judge Judy and Phyllis Oreck when she was on Judge Judy. Phyllis donated a couple for the NE PEZ Con charity auction. Its nice she turned what was a bad situation for her into, something good by using it to raise money for charity. Thank you Phyllis! Above Right: Joe Paravati’s display of rare PEZ at the NE PEZ Con. Its something to see $100-several thousand dollar PEZ on display such as Disney Softheads! On Left: Mary is now famous! Her head is on a PEZ dispenser. Picture taken at the PEZ Visitors Center. Bottom: For those that have not seen John Laspina in person at one of the conventions, here is a picture of part of his display. At the NE PEZ Con he has thirty foot of table space, several floor displays, cases with many rare and expensive PEZ on display. Lots of rare PEZ to see in his booth.
