Introduction

W

elcome to the 20th Pf Awards’ Post Awards Brochure. The Pf Awards are the most prestigious awards in the pharmaceutical industry for sales, field-based and head office colleagues alike. Every year, the Pf Awards bring together the best and the brightest of the pharmaceutical industry. On the 12th March, we were all meant to convene at the Royal Lancaster , to recognise the top performers in our industry. However, this year was slightly different. We had intended to make a big celebration of our 20th year, however, we couldn’t go ahead with what we had planned. Taking the decision to cancel the live Pf Awards Dinner and move the Ceremony online was incredibly difficult, but I believe it was the correct decision given the coronavirus pandemic and the risks involved with large gatherings. As I write this introduction today the situation is far worse than it was in March. As a result of the decision that we made, this Post Awards Brochure is a little different to previous years. We may not have the celebratory photos, but we have wonderful interviews with the Pf Award winners, and an insight into how industry embraced the live stream to celebrate with family, friends and colleagues online, in the office or at home. The Pf Awards wouldn’t be possible without the incredible organisational support that we receive from those people who truly care about our industry. I’d like to express my thanks to our Pf Awards sponsors. Without them, the Pf Awards would not happen. Also, thanks must go to our independent judges, these former industry professionals and clinicians give us their valuable time to attend the Pf Awards Assessment Day and uphold the high standards of quality and professionalism that you have come to expect from the Pf Awards. My thanks also go to every company that enters the Pf Awards and, of course, the candidates. Not only for their involvement with the event, but also for their understanding when we decided to move the event online. Our industry makes an incredible difference to patients’ lives and the high quality of candidates we have seen this year upholds that. Please enjoy our special Pf Awards Post Awards Brochure with details of our fantastic winners who now become part of exclusive Pf Award Winners Club. Although we couldn’t celebrate our 20th year as we’d hoped, we’re now putting all our efforts into Pf Awards 2021. I’m looking forward to seeing you there in person next year. Take care and stay safe, MELANIE HAMER Founding Director, E4H

TRIUMPH IN THE FACE OF ADVERSITY

Pf Awards Founding Director, MELANIE HAMER, shares her thoughts on the Pf Awards and her difficult decision to move the Awards Dinner from a physical event to a live stream in just 24 hours.

Tell me about the history of the Pf Awards I’ve been running the Pf Awards since the beginning, but they weren’t my idea. My involvement came about unexpectedly. I was running a training consultancy at the time and had a meeting with Nick Merrifield and Jon Thorne who had just set up Pf Magazine – back when it was called Pharmaceutical Field. During one meeting, they explained that they were thinking about setting up an industry awards. I thought it was a brilliant idea, so Nick and Jon asked me to take it forward. Straight away I was passionate about the awards, I took on the task, owned it, drove it and made it happen and still love them today. The Pf Awards were born. I used Nick and Jon as a sounding board and pulled together a Steering Group. It was important to make a great job of it; we had to get it right. I was determined to make it happen because I felt so passionate about it. Having been out there and carried the bag as a Medical Representative (one of my favourite roles) and then as a trainer, I felt very strongly that the individuals who were on the road seeing customers needed recognition. I thought it was really important to recognise what they were doing. And I still do.

In the first year, we only had around six Pf Award categories but over the years the Pf Awards have evolved as the industry has changed. The traditional roles have always been recognised although there have been many name changes over the years mirroring changes in the industry. What impact do the Pf Awards have on industry? The Pf Awards are considered the most prestigious in the industry, for years I referred to them as the most prestigious awards and then when the industry started referring to them as the most prestigious it was amazing, that makes me incredibly proud. Companies nominate their top talent, who are then assessed by our wonderful judging panel to benchmark them against industry. I’m proud of our high standards and the rigorous assessment process. I love that fact that we’re recognising the talent that’s coming through the industry, and it’s fantastic watching the winners’ careers progress. I know that such progression isn’t all due to a Pf Award win, but it does add kudos. Over the years, winners have gone from Medical Representative to National Sales Manager and beyond, it’s fantastic. Why do you think they’re so successful? I believe that the Steering Group is critical to the whole process and is as important now as it was in year one. Its members are out there day in, day out seeing clients and are a wealth of information which we really appreciate. We meet up every year to review the Pf Awards that have just taken place. We look at feedback, and what’s happening in the industry, whether the categories are still relevant, or need changing. Also, the Assessment Day is rigorous. We really put the candidates through their paces. The judges really are great in supporting this. Many of them have been with us a long time. They are familiar with the way that we assess, and are brilliant at benchmarking. They’re also very good at giving written feedback, which we can pass on to the candidates and the companies, who are very grateful as it’s not very often that you can have written feedback from a clinician. The team here at E4H are fantastic and really enthusiastic, too. When they are involved with Pf Awards right at the beginning, see the nominations come in and the people who get through to the Pf Awards Assessment Day, they feel the excitement and the tension. When the team then get to the Pf Awards Dinner to see who’s won, they get as excited as I do, it’s a real goosebumps moment.

What impact do the Pf Awards have on the winners? You only need to read the quotes and interviews in this Post Awards Brochure to get a feel for the impact of the Pf Awards. The impact is amazing, I often again get goosebumps and tear up when reading the quotes! Everyone who makes it to the Awards Dinner (obviously, not including this year), is a finalist and really wants to be recognised as a top finalist. But when their name is read out as a Pf Award Winner, they can’t believe it because they know the standard of candidates at the Assessment Day is incredibly high. How thorough is the Pf Awards Assessment Day? It’s important to stress that not everyone who enters Pf Awards gets invited to attend the Pf Awards Assessment Day, many do get screened out. The day itself is very thorough, but it’s also a different experience for each candidate depending on which category they enter. For example, if you enter the Learning and Development Partnership Award, you have to deliver a pre-prepared presentation on that partnership. Whereas if you’ve entered into the Primary Care Specialist Award, you need to undertake a sales call, an NHS assessment in exam conditions, and a presentation based on an unseen business case study, which you then go on to present to the judges. So it depends on what category you’re in as to how you’re assessed. Who makes up the independent judging panel? All of our judges are ex-industry, they’ve reached a high level and then set up their own businesses. They’ve all had experience of the roles they judge before moving into management and have vast experience and expertise to draw on. All of the judges sign a confidentiality agreement, and I always match their skill set to the relevant Pf Award category. How did it feel about reaching the landmark of the 20th anniversary? It was very exciting; I couldn’t believe it. I remember not believing it at the 10th year. And then suddenly, we’re at 20. I really wanted to recognise the achievement and the support that we’ve had. Some of the companies have been with us on this journey virtually from the beginning, which has been tremendous and I’m so grateful for that. I was really looking forward to celebrating, it’s just a shame that it didn’t quite happen the way that we were hoping.

How was it taking the difficult decision to cancel the Pf Awards Dinner and live stream the event at short notice? It wasn’t easy. I know I keep saying it but I’m so passionate about the Pf Awards, we work on it all year. We knew we may have to make some difficult calls with the increasing threat of the coronavirus and were monitoring it daily. We were so grateful to have been able to hold the Pf Awards Assessment Day without too much of hitch. Though the team had planned and worked in the background how to run it virtually, should the need arise. However, we could see the situation escalating and by Monday morning of Pf Awards week, a couple of companies had received global decisions that they couldn’t attend. By Tuesday, more companies had very reluctantly pulled out, I kept having telephone calls from Managing Directors and Sales Directors with updates and I knew that there were two particular companies that I was dreading having the telephone call from. On Wednesday, when one of their numbers flashed up on my mobile, I knew we had to make a decision. I just remember sitting behind my computer screen and the tears started coming. You may think that I’m daft but it was horrible, but we just had to cancel the live event. From the messages we received following the decision, it felt like there was a sense of relief that we’d made that decision. So the remaining companies didn’t have to attend and the ones who had the decision made for them globally were equally reassured and relieved. We’ve got an incredible team here at E4H who mobilised and turned everything around to make it virtual in just over 24 hours. Thankfully, virtual events are part of our core business at E4H, and we have such a talented and dedicated team that they pulled together to make it happen. How was the live stream? It was surreal hosting the Pf Awards to an empty room. I’m used to seeing 600 people, but it was a photographer, two cameramen and a sound desk. It was very strange, but I was really pleased with the outcome, the social media engagement and the feedback we’ve received. People were holding Pf Awards parties in offices, their homes and I’m so pleased that we were able to recognise the winners. It would have been so sad if we hadn’t been able to do that, as the candidates would have had to wait for a whole year. It is a shame that we couldn’t recognise the Pf Awards 20th anniversary as we had planned. However, many people have suggested that we have a 21st birthday instead. So I think that’s what we’ll focus on now.

“Personal selling is one of the most effective ways to maximise behavioural change of customers, however as the environment has evolved the channel has become more challenging. When E-Detailing is executed to a high standard it has proven impact on sales growth and return on investment. With the Covid-19 situation, the industry faces an immediate challenge with restricted access to the NHS and cancellations of physical events and, therefore, remote channels gain even greater significance. SECONDARY CARE SPECIALIST AWARD Alison Gaillard, Exact Sciences Did you watch the Pf Awards Ceremony? I did watch the ceremony. I joined in five minutes before it started with a glass of bubbly in my hand. My kids were so excited to see my name amongst all the others that had entered. I was sat in my kitchen, with my husband and 2 children. I had other family members watching online too from their homes.

A word from the winners PAYER ENGAGEMENT & OUTSTANDING PERFORMER AWARDS Jo Kemp, Novartis Did you watch the Pf Awards Ceremony? Yes, I watched it remotely with all my Novartis colleagues who had been to the Pf Awards Assessment Day cross franchise, which was great as we rarely get to support each other at external events such as this. We used Microsoft Teams to dial in and then used your link to watch it live. I watched it in my office to make sure the WiFi worked! How did you feel when your name was announced? I was taken aback because I didn’t expect the Payer Engagement Award winner announcement to be up first, then to get shortlisted and then to hear my name being called was a shock really – it didn’t seem real! What was lovely though was that my phone started to ping with messages from other Novartis colleagues who hadn’t entered the Pf Awards, but were following on Twitter, which was unexpected support and hugely appreciated. I was even more shocked to discover my name being called out for the winner of the Outstanding Performer Award at the end, as I had not realised this was a category! It feels like a great achievement and I feel very proud to work for Novartis. Were you expecting it? No, definitely not! Winning once then twice was a total shock! Why do you think you won? It’s always difficult to know how well you come across at events like these. I would like to think the piece of work I did was acknowledged as a challenge but something worthwhile across a system level. I am a very driven individual who puts all my energy into completing projects which are usually bespoke to match the needs of the NHS. What I love about working for Novartis is that they listen to new ideas and help

38 | Pf Awards Brochure 2020

you develop these into fruition. They are not afraid of taking risks with you to try something new. This is a very refreshing way to work and means we earn the respect of our NHS customers early on and develop long term relationships. How was the Pf Awards Assessment Day? It was a whistle-stop tour! I was in the middle of training and had been in London the day before and Manchester the day after. There was a major accident on the M1 and at one point I didn’t think I would make my slot! The judges were all very friendly and made me feel relaxed in the room itself, and it’s a fantastic venue overlooking Leicester City football ground. What are you hoping the win will do for you? I hope it gives myself and others at Novartis the courage to challenge ourselves to do something different in our jobs. Having the confidence and faith to deliver a project whilst overcoming complex challenges, which took eight months to deliver, has been hugely rewarding. I would like to continue to develop bespoke projects that help match the needs of the NHS specifically in the franchise where I work, which is Ophthalmology. Where will you keep your trophy? My trophy will be kept in my office to remind me of what I have achieved in my career. Would you recommend others enter the Pf Awards in the future? Definitely, it’s a great opportunity to see how others from industry and cross industry see you and your work, which is why it is so valuable to have this positive feedback. Just taking part is a hugely rewarding experience and one not to be feared!

How did you feel when your name was announced? I was literally shaking when my name was put up as a top finalist. When my name was announced as the winner, well…I have the video evidence of my scream! I was honestly so shocked but incredibly proud too. It was lovely to then receive so many messages of congratulations from current team, past colleagues, family members and friends. It was a wonderful evening for me, and whilst being at the Pf Awards ceremony would have been my preference, it was great to share my success with husband and children. Were you expecting it? It is impossible to ever know how you have performed in these assessments. You can always come away with the belief that you have done well, but you also know in your heart that others could, of course, have done better! I knew I had done my best, and that was all I could ask of myself, so I had no expectations of the outcome at all. Why do you think you won? My product, which is a diagnostic test for breast cancer, as you can imagine is completely patient centric, and very emotive. The patient is at the heart of everything that I communicate, and every action that I take with my customers. I hope that this is why I won; because it would have been heartfelt, as well as being both patient and customer solution focused.

CROSS-FUNCTIONAL TEAM AWARD How was the Pf Awards Assessment Day? This is the first year that Exact Sciences and I have entered, and so I was quite nervous when I walked into the building, knowing some of the best of the industry would be competing. But there was no reason to be, and Melanie’s talk at the beginning made me feel privileged to be a part of it all. The experience was really positive and so well organised. The business planning session was fantastic, this was the aspect of the day that I enjoyed the most. An aspect of the day that I had not even considered, was seeing past colleagues. I met up with so many people that I haven’t seen for years which was wonderful.

Iain Chalmers, Thornton & Ross Ltd Did you watch the Pf Awards Ceremony? Absolutely! We wouldn’t have missed it for the world! The Training and Development team at Thornton & Ross organised a Microsoft TEAMS call. This meant that we could all join in the fun, remotely (some of the ladies put on sparkly dresses!). Neil and I were at home with our respective families and were on the phone to each other, all the way through. I think we tried to capture as much of the atmosphere of the Pf Awards Ceremony, as we could. I even put my kilt on… just for full effect!

What are you hoping the win will do for you? I don’t think there is anything specifically for me. I love working for Exact Sciences, and the work that we do changes the lives of patients every day. What is interesting, is that whilst we are considered in the NHS as a key company in the breast cancer arena, we are small in the UK compared to other large pharmaceutical companies, that sometimes I don’t think as a team we do ourselves justice. Therefore, this win is for my wonderful UK team and I hope that as a result of this win we can raise the profile of the fantastic work that Exact Sciences are doing to support patients and NHS healthcare professionals in making treatment decisions.

How did you feel when your name was announced? That part was quite funny, Neil was struggling with a bit of a delay (due to his internet connection) which meant I knew we had won, before he did. Just before our names were called out, I had a sudden panic and said: “Oh chum, I don’t think we’ve got it”. By the time Neil had reacted, our names had been announced and Neil only realised that, because I kept shouting down the phone: “We’ve only gone and done it!” Of course, Neil was then getting the information through and there were a few seconds when we were totally confused. After the initial shock, we were congratulating each other, then everyone else from the company started to send their own congratulations. It was actually quite emotional (but don’t tell anyone, I said that!).

Where will you keep your trophy? Good question! Hmm…I don’t have a mantelpiece. Might need to build one? Would you recommend others enter the Pf Awards in the future? Definitely! You go into the Pf Awards with nothing to lose but have everything to gain. I am testament to that.

“ The whole experience has given us both a new level of confidence” Iain Chalmers

Were you expecting it? From the moment we left the stadium, on Pf Awards Assessment Day, Neil and I were convinced that we had done enough to win. Our only question was, had we done more than everyone else? That was the point we debated all the way from Leicester to Glasgow. The things that we were certain of were that we gave the best performance we could on the day; we could hold our heads high whether we won or not; and we had not let each other down or anyone else, connected to the project or the company. In the days, after, we both had moments of real certainty then moments of doubt (it was quite the roller coaster!) I think, all in all, we were expecting it. Why do you think you won? We prepared…a lot! At the Pf Awards Assessment Day, Neil and I resolved that we would go into the room and just “be ourselves”. We had been working on this project for a long time and we had developed a really close dynamic which, I am certain, came through, during our presentation. Neil and I have a very easy going working relationship and a high level of mutual respect which allows us to get the best of each other’s experience and advice. We were able to show that we brought together a number of stakeholders, who all got on board with this project, and our group planned and executed the plan perfectly to give a fantastic result.

How was the Pf Awards Assessment Day? The Pf Awards Assessment Day was great, we really enjoyed the experience and it gave us a chance to meet up with loads of folks we had known for years (it was just such a shame that it was a “hug/handshake free” day). Everything went like clockwork and you could see the results of what must have been a huge amount of effort to put it all together. What really surprised us, was the energy shown by the judges (well, certainly in our presentation room), even though we must have been the last guys to present, the two judges were still looking fresh and managed to show real interest in what we had to say. Actually, we should probably say “thanks” to them, for that. It really made a difference. What are you hoping the win will do for you? We didn’t go into the process with any intention of winning for personal gain. We wanted to show that we had a project which had taken up a large part of our lives and we were proud of it. We really wanted to win, for everyone who had partnered with us in order to make this project a success. Our drive to excel did change just before the Pf Assessment Day. In the weeks leading up to Pf Awards, our company family was shocked by the sudden and tragic loss of two members, I think we both wanted the win to give us all something to celebrate. Where will you keep your trophy? Our respective legal teams are trying to thrash out a joint custody agreement! In fairness, there were so many people who were involved with this project, it would be a logistical nightmare for us all to get a wee shot. I’m sure we will work something out. Wherever it goes, it will take pride of place! Would you recommend others enter the Pf Awards in the future? That is the easiest question for us to answer. Without a doubt, yes! The whole experience has given us both a new level of confidence, to search for ideas and to look at our business from several angles and choose the best way to improve what we do and help to improve the lives of patients who access our products.

Neil Cox, Thornton & Ross Ltd Did you watch the Pf Awards Ceremony? Yes we certainly did, with it being my first ever attendance at the Pf Awards Assessment Day, it was quite a momentous experience. I watched it at home with my family, whilst sharing the experience with Iain over the phone. Though we did have to depart on several occasions to respond to calls of congratulations from our fellow colleagues, it was an incredible night and well worth opening the bubbly. How did you feel when your name was announced? I was actually receiving a running commentary from Iain, and for some reason there was a 30-second delay with my internet connection and, to hear the news that we were shortlisted was incredible, and then followed the shouting and chanting: “We’ve won, we’ve won!” and “We’ve done it!” It was one of the greatest moments of my life and to be able to share it with my family, and my colleague/friend Iain, it was unforgettable. Were you expecting it? On the days after the Pf Awards Assessment Day, Iain and I had many telephone conversations, with some we were very confident but in others there was an element of doubt. Looking back, it was probably part of me that was preparing for failure if we didn’t win. Though, one thing that was apparent, Iain and I had dedicated many hours, late nights and weekends to the project, and if we didn’t receive a win it wasn’t through lack of effort. At the beginning of the project, Iain and I had barely crossed paths within Thornton & Ross. Now, we’re great friends that chat regularly and share the memory of winning the Cross-Functional Team Category at the Pf Awards 2020. Why do you think you won? Ourselves and fellow colleagues have worked extremely hard on the project for well over a year, with both Iain and I sacrificing many hours of our personal and family time to the project. Although it’s been fun and a huge learning curve, there were many occasions where we experienced difficulty and faced challenges that almost seemed like there was no solution, but I believe because of our placid nature and Iain’s wittiness, we were able to smile and laugh off these moments of stress. It’s been an absolute pleasure working with Iain, argument free, all problems and issues raised were discussed civilly and resolved methodically, and I believe on the day at the Pf Awards Assessment Centre we demonstrated this clearly to the panel. How was the Pf Awards Assessment Day? Again, this was the first time that I had ever attended the Pf Awards Assessment Day and wow hopefully not my last! It was an intoxicating experience; the atmosphere was electric. There was a huge amount of excitement, with no uncomfortable introduction to strangers, everyone was really chatty and openly sharing their experiences of the day. I just hope I can be part of it for another year running.

40 | Pf Awards Brochure 2020

What are you hoping the win will do for you? We are very humble of the win and recognise everyone attending on the day will have tried their very best and hope our win can inspire others. I do hope though, the win will have made Iain and I more determined in exploring new opportunities, which require us operating cross-functionally as we’ve proven that we work well as a team. Where will you keep your trophy? I think it’s safer at the Chalmers household, as I currently have a toddler running loose! Would you recommend others enter the Pf Awards in the future? From attending the Pf Awards Assessment Day, the days after, and winning the Cross-Functional Team Award, it’s been a truly phenomenal journey and I strongly recommend others to experience it first-hand. Sadie Milner, AbbVie Did you watch the Pf Awards Ceremony? Yes, I did. I thought you and your co-host did a fantastic job, albeit without an audience, it genuinely felt like I was there with you. I really appreciate the time and trouble you went to, getting dressed up and presenting from the stage with a big screen, it was lovely and very well done. I watched the Pf Awards live with my Mum (who was with me because she was booked to babysit) and my children on a screen at home. It was really nice to be able to share my surprise and delight at winning with my family. How did you feel when your name was announced? I was delighted when our team was announced as joint winners, we all worked so hard. I am looking forward to celebrating the win as a team in the future when the current time of social distancing has ended. Were you expecting it? It was a complete surprise to be announced as a winner, we entered because we are a strong team. There were some extremely high calibre people in our category, and I knew the competition would be very strong. Why do you think you won? I think the judges recognised not only that we accomplished incredible things with the launch of our new product but also the way we worked together; we achieved more than any of us could have if we were working as individuals. How was the Pf Awards Assessment Day? The Pf Awards Assessment Day was very well organised, we knew exactly what we had to do and where we had to be. There was also time to network with the other candidates. Overall, it was a positive experience and more fun than I thought it would be. What are you hoping the win will do for you? That’s a great question, short term it’s a great boost for me, the team and AbbVie to be successful and receive external recognition for our ways of working and what we achieve for patients. Longer term, I hope it will lead to further development opportunities.

Where will you keep your trophy? I haven’t seen the trophy yet, but the plan would be to keep it on my desk at home. Would you recommend others enter the Pf Awards in the future? Yes, without hesitation I would recommend entering the Pf Awards, my top tip would be to enter a category with a colleague so you can support each other. Des Dhaliwal, AbbVie Did you watch the Pf Awards Ceremony? Yes, I managed to get onto the link and found it actually quite entertaining especially when our category was being announced. I watched the Pf Awards with my family on our main tv screen. I was trying to explain that I wasn’t on TV as such as was mirroring from the iPad! How did you feel when your name was announced? I have to say I was really pleased as I thought our team really achieved so much throughout the whole year and it really felt special. Looking forward to celebrating properly with everyone for sure. Were you expecting it? The calibre of the entrants was very high and I thought that being in the final assessment stage was quite an achievement in itself. I felt we were genuinely a strong team and had a good chance but being up against the best from other pharma companies, it was always going to be a complete surprise. Why do you think you won? Personally, I felt we really tried to show on the day that we worked tirelessly together, throughout the year, achieving more than we could have imagined which only came about by the way we inspired each other as a team. I’m sure it came across to the panel we were really proud to work together.

How was the Pf Awards Assessment Day? I genuinely enjoyed the day. Met so many individuals from past and present and was great to network with everyone. The day itself was so well organised and I thought it was a blast! What are you hoping the win will do for you? I think the win will want to make our team go on and do so much more. Being recognised outside of AbbVie for the way we work and changing patients’ lives really has been a great boost for all of us. Where will you keep your trophy? It will be in my study in a prominent place so I can be reminded that I have a great team. Would you recommend others enter the Pf Awards in the future? Absolutely. It’s a great opportunity to demonstrate your ways of working to the rest of pharma. Ali Terai, AbbVie Did you watch the Pf Awards Ceremony? I’m afraid I was unable to watch the Pf Awards Ceremony live due to prior commitments. How did you feel when you heard you had won? Although I didn’t watch the ceremony, I was

monitoring my company phone messages and emails and was delighted when our team was announced as winners. Were you expecting it? I wasn’t expecting it, but I was also quietly confident we had a strong chance. Why do you think you won? I think the true extent of our teamwork came through during the Pf Awards Assessment Day. I also feel our focus on patient outcomes as a key presentation point helped differentiation. What are you hoping the win will do for you? It was great to receive peer recognition and I hope the award will increase my profile and further opportunities for me. Where will you keep your trophy? In pride of place in my trophy cabinet that contains all awards I have ever won in all disciplines (personal and professional). Would you recommend others enter the Pf Awards in the future? Definitely. It is a great experience and an even greater feeling to win. Even to be recognised as a finalist is a huge achievement.

NEW ACCOUNT MANAGER AWARD Sam Singh, MSD Did you watch the Pf Awards Ceremony? Yes, I did watch the ceremony. I linked it up to the living room TV and we watched the very well improvised Pf Awards Ceremony from home. Given the circumstances, there was somewhat of a special feeling watching and receiving the Pf Awards with family and loved ones. How did you feel when your name was announced? I was absolutely over the moon! Were you expecting it? Not at all. There was so much incredible talent at the Pf Awards Assessment Day! You don’t get any feedback at the time, so you don’t know if you did well or not. So, in the end you just be yourself, embrace the people you meet and enjoy the experience of the day. Why do you think you won? Well, I have always taken great pride in the relationships I build with healthcare professionals and truly believe that strong working relationships are key to improving outcomes for patients, the NHS and industry. The culture at MSD supports and encourages the desire to achieve such outcomes. From a patient perspective I believe diabetes, or any condition should not define nor prohibit a normal lifestyle. Veritably the underlying adage of motivation for me is that nobody should be denied the opportunity of living a normal healthy life.

The process itself provided a great opportunity to demonstrate how MSD could partner with the NHS to overcome critical challenges in addition to the emphasis of getting the right medicine to the right patient at the right time – with a consolidated objective of improving care for people with diabetes. Will Plews, Astellas Pharma Ltd Did you watch the Pf Awards Ceremony? Yes, I really enjoyed watching the livestream ceremony from the comfort of my living room! Did you get together with friends, family or colleagues? I watched it at home with my wife. How did you feel when your name was announced? I couldn’t quite believe it – I was lost for words, which is unusual for me! It was special to share the moment with my wife. Were you expecting it? Not at all. Whilst the Pf Awards Assessment Day had been enjoyable, it was also incredibly challenging and I had come away thinking of how I could have done better. So, I had told myself that if I reached the top finalists I would be over the moon – the thought of winning hadn’t even crossed my mind! Why do you think you won? Although I found the Pf Awards Assessment Day challenging, I found it really enjoyable and maybe this came across on the

day. I especially liked the presentation where I could look back on my greatest achievement and get to be proud and show the assessors how I achieved it. How was the Pf Awards Assessment Day? Challenging, but great fun. I have only been in the industry for four years, so I don’t know many people outside my company, so it was a great opportunity to meet people from other companies. What are you hoping the win will do for you? Personally it’s recognition of the hard work I have put in and the support I have had at Astellas since starting as a primary care representative and it is something I am immensely proud of. Where will you keep your trophy? It will take pride of place on the shelf in my office at home. Would you recommend others enter the Pf Awards in the future? I would, I was over the moon when I was nominated. It took hard work and time to prepare for the day and then on the day it was challenging but I honestly enjoyed every minute; the nerves, the assessments and meeting people from different companies. I never really thought about winning, I just wanted to represent myself and the company the best I could. It is a great career achievement that I would strongly recommend anyone goes for, if given the opportunity.

MEDICAL SCIENTIFIC LIAISON AWARD Raymond Johnston, AbbVie Did you watch the Pf Awards Ceremony? I was on a plane when the ceremony began. How did you feel when you heard you had won? I had a very nice call from my manager who gave me the good news. What a great thing to hear when you touchdown at home! Were you expecting it? Certainly not! I gave it my best and enjoyed the process so was happy just to be in it. Why do you think you won?I’m not sure. I can only imagine my passion for the work came across on the day. What are you hoping the win will do for you? I honestly haven’t thought about that. Perhaps some self-belief; maybe I do know what I’m doing! Where will you keep your trophy? Pride of place in my office. Would you recommend others enter the Pf Awards in the future? Absolutely. The process is demanding but because of that it is ultimately rewarding. Win or not.

EXPERIENCED ACCOUNT MANAGER AWARD

JOINT WORKING AWARD

Jane Jackson, LEO Pharma Did you watch the Pf Awards Ceremony? Yes, I certainly did and I actually loved the experience even though it wasn’t the Pf Awards Dinner we were expecting. I actually loved being cosy and sharing the time with my loved ones. I watched it at home with my family and then when I won my parents arrived with a bottle of champagne! Even though we were social distancing we had fun.

Emma Bowen, Novartis Did you watch the Pf Awards Ceremony? Yes, all of the Novartis finalists connected via Microsoft Teams (some in black tie, some in PJs), most with a glass of something, and shared their support for each other verbally and via the chat function.

How did you feel when your name was announced? I was really pleased to see my LEO Pharma colleagues come up on screen and then it was me. I honestly wish someone had taken a picture of me when my name was announced as I was utterly dumbfounded, or gobsmacked as we say up here in the North. My daughter went into hysterics at it and we just wish we’d caught it all on camera. Needless to say I was over the moon! Were you expecting it? No, this was my first ever entry into anything like this and therefore I didn’t expect to win. Also I enjoyed the Pf Awards Assessment Day but I felt there were some really strong candidates, who I’d known from my time in the industry. Why do you think you won? I think the fact that I enjoyed it contributed to my win. I am passionate about what I do and the way that we work within Thrombosis at LEO Pharma. I think I showed that and how proud I am of the work I have done in collaboration with the NHS in the North East of England. How was the Pf Awards Assessment Day? The Pf Awards Assessment Day was not what I expected at all. I was really nervous and out of my comfort zone, but we were all made to feel so very welcome. It was a fantastic, supportive atmosphere. The invigilators were really calming and the staff were so helpful, which helped me to enjoy it. What are you hoping the win will do for you? It will spur me on to continue to work, making relationships and partnerships with the NHS to improve patient outcomes. I am happy and this has just been the recognition I needed to prove to myself that I’m good at what I do.

How did you feel when your name was announced? I was totally dumbfounded. My twelve-year-old son had to tap me and say, “Err...Mum...that’s you!” Were you expecting it? Not in the slightest. I was just grateful to have gone through the process and to have been able to represent my company. Why do you think you won? The joint working project in heart failure, which took a whole-systems approach, demonstrated improvements to patient care within the NHS. It was a very good example of what can be achieved when we partner and work in innovative and bespoke ways to improve patients’ lives. How was the Pf Awards Assessment Day? The day turned into a great opportunity to catch up with other Novartis colleagues and others that I hadn’t seen for years! It was a very well organised and facilitated event. The judging panel were welcoming and each probed for more detail and in-depth understanding of the project. Overall, the experience was an extremely positive one and hopefully one I can repeat again in the future. What are you hoping the win will do for you? The win has provided a huge boost in confidence, along with company and industry-wide recognition. It has also reaffirmed the overwhelming sense of pride I have in my role, our NHS partners, and in Novartis’ commitment to patients.

Where will you keep your trophy? Attached to my hip… only joking. I will keep it beside my desk, so that when I lose faith in my abilities or I’m a bit down, it will help me be positive. It’s going to be really well polished!

Where will you keep your trophy? The trophy will take pride of place on my mantelpiece (away from the children!) and act as a reminder of why I do the things that I do and how important it is to recognise successes whilst challenging myself to continuously improve.

Would you recommend others enter the Pf Awards in the future? Absolutely! You never know until you try and like me you may well surprise yourself. Be bold and go for it!

Would you recommend others enter the Pf Awards in the future? Definitely. You never know what you’re capable of until you challenge yourself!

NURSE ADVISOR AWARD Selina Forrest, IQVIA Did you watch the Pf Awards Ceremony? Absolutely. My family and I watched the ceremony together at home – with a glass of bubbles in hand! How did you feel when your name was announced? Complete shock but the most wonderful surprise – I had to keep looking at the screen to make sure I hadn’t misheard my name! I was absolutely delighted and am still over the moon to be announced as the winner of the Nurse Advisor category. Were you expecting it? Not at all, it was honestly the best surprise. I was in a category alongside some amazing candidates and nurses – it was an absolute pleasure to meet them at the Pf Awards Assessment Day and share the experience together. The calibre of entrants at the Pf Awards Assessment Day is so high, but I knew I had given the whole experience my best shot and was prepared as much as I possibly could be. Why do you think you won? I am incredibly passionate about my role and the service that the team at IQVIA and I provide to our patients and healthcare professionals. The patients are always my main focus and they are at the heart of everything we do. We are very fortunate to work with the most amazing and inspiring patients every day, and to have the opportunity to make an impact. I really do absolutely love my work and role, and I am thrilled I was able to convey my enthusiasm and passion to the judges on the day. IQVIA and the management team have been incredible in terms of the support they have provided throughout the process, I hope I have done them proud by receiving this Pf Award. How was the Pf Awards Assessment Day? The Pf Awards Assessment Day was thoroughly enjoyable. While there was a vast amount of work involved in preparing for the Assessment Day, the day itself was a very positive and uplifting experience. The day is incredibly well organised, and it was wonderful to have the opportunity to meet other candidates and peers within the industry. My colleague and I are both still in contact with other candidates we met on the day. The judges were delightful, so welcoming and friendly and did everything possible to make you feel at ease during your assessments. They made the whole Pf Awards Assessment Day as enjoyable as it was. Would you recommend others enter the Pf Awards in the future? 100% yes! This is my second year of entering the Pf Awards, last year I was delighted to be a finalist in the Best Newcomer category. The process is intense and requires a great deal of commitment and dedication, but it is completely worth it. I have absolutely loved being part of the process for two years running and would encourage anyone to enter the Pf Awards if they have the chance – you won’t regret it. I would like to say a huge thank you again to everyone involved in the Pf Awards process, Melanie and her amazing team, to the wonderful judges for making me feel so comfortable and to IQVIA and the management team for their ongoing support throughout.

BEST NEWCOMER AWARD

PRIMARY CARE SPECIALISTS AWARD

Eelke Roos, Roche Did you watch the Pf Awards Ceremony? Yes, I did. The digital format of the Pf Awards Ceremony meant that instead of black tie I could just attend the ceremony in my robe. That is not something I expected to say going into this process! The Pf Awards Ceremony coincided with my daughter’s one month birthday, so it was spent at home with the family. I might be the first person in history who changed a nappy during an awards ceremony!

Nick Meeks, Star Did you watch the Pf Awards Ceremony? Absolutely – connected to the TV!

How did you feel when your name was announced? Over the moon! It was a fantastic feeling to win the Pf Award! We were all cheering and jumping up and down (apart from my daughter, I suppose). Becoming a hospital representative for Roche has been utterly profound so far and winning the Best Newcomer Pf Award is such a great recognition of all the work I have done with doctors and nurses over the last year. Were you expecting it? I was pleased with my performance at the Pf Awards Assessment Day and while I stayed hopeful I could win, I was acutely aware of the competitive nature of this event and the excellent people I was up against. I was not expecting to win, I hoped perhaps the top five might be in reach – this made the win feel all the better! Why do you think you won? We do our jobs to improve the lives of patients and it felt important to call this out during my presentation. Ultimately, this is why we get out of bed in the morning and I believe I managed to tie that back to my business achievements in a way that resonated with the judges. How was the Pf Awards Assessment Day? Brilliant! It was 100% positive for me. It was lovely to catch up with colleagues and meet new people. I very much enjoyed the activities and the day felt like a smooth and streamlined operation. The highlight for me was meeting the judges. It is clear the Pf Awards puts care and effort into making sure the industry’s leading people are involved. What are you hoping the win will do for you? I am hoping the win will inspire others. Whether that be to get involved with the Pf Awards, or explore a new part of our industry. I got a lot out of the whole process and if I can win it then so can you! Where will you keep your trophy? Someplace where my 3-year-old son cannot reach because he might not be able to resist testing what gravity does to it. I speak from experience. Would you recommend others enter the Pf Awards in the future? I would absolutely recommend others to enter the Pf Awards in the future. While it is a great way to test your skills against the best in the industry, it is also very enjoyable. I learned a lot in this process and all my colleagues at Roche who entered this year have said the same. I really do not see any reason why you should not get involved, you will love it!

If so, where did you watch it? With my partner and her parents (and dog!) at their house. How did you feel when your name was announced? Disbelief and excitement in equal measure… The dog seemed a little confused though! I’d only just sat down when I realised I had also ‘placed’ in the Future Leader category too, I almost missed it! Were you expecting it? Not at all. I felt I had done well on the Pf Awards Assessment Day itself, but when you’re up against very capable competition, you never quite believe it could be you. Why do you think you won? I’ve been fortunate enough to be a finalist in previous years. I made sure my company asked for the feedback from these assessments and ensured I read it over and over to understand what I might need to work on this time around. I suppose it worked! How was the Pf Awards Assessment Day? Funnily enough, regardless of whether I won or not, I really enjoyed the Pf Awards Assessment Day (even though we couldn’t shake hands with anyone!). It was a great opportunity to network with people from within the industry, as well as catch-up with faces from the past. I found the assessment to be a real challenge and felt as though it had been a great way to test myself. What are you hoping the win will do for you? I hope the win will provide the springboard upon which I can continue to grow and develop my career. Where will you keep your trophy? Good question… My partner says she’s going to place it on display for all to see in the lounge! Would you recommend others enter the Pf Awards in the future? 100%. I’ve been fortunate

enough to enter on previous occasions and, despite not winning my category, I found the Pf Awards to be a great way of testing myself against some of the very best within the industry… plus the fact that if you don’t enter, you can’t win! Michael Fuoco, Pfizer in partnership with Ashfield Did you watch the Pf Awards Ceremony? I watched the live stream of the Pf Awards at home with my wife (and eventually, a celebratory drink). How did you feel when your name was announced? When I heard my name read out and saw my picture on the screen, it caught me off guard and I was completely surprised – after it sunk in I was ecstatic. Once the messages from colleagues began to come in, I felt incredibly proud. Were you expecting it? I was certainly not expecting to win as there were so many fantastic candidates, although I felt as though I had performed very well on the Assessment Day, which was challenging and intense at times. Overall, it was a really valuable experience to test and hone my skills and meet other top performing members of the industry. What are you hoping the win will do for you? I hope that both the experience of the Pf Awards, and the winning itself, will allow me to build upon the work and skills I have developed over my first few years in industry. Where will you keep your trophy? I haven’t yet found a place for the trophy to go, most likely it will sit atop my bookshelf for the time being! Would you recommend others enter the Pf Awards in the future? As I have previously mentioned, the Pf Awards are a fantastic opportunity to test your skills against, and network with, the top representatives and managers in the pharmaceutical industry; so it is definitely an experience that I would recommend to others.

FUTURE LEADERS AWARD Lauren Laskier, MSD Did you watch the Pf Awards Ceremony? Of course! I thought that the way in which E4H were able to quickly convert this into a seamless virtual event given the circumstances was very impressive. Where did you watch it? On the couch in my PJs with my boyfriend and a Thai takeaway. I was also connecting with my MSD colleagues via Yammer. How did you feel when your name was announced? Totally elated! I was already chuffed to hear my name on the top finalists list, so when I was announced as the winner I was jumping up and down on the sofa and yelping so loud my whole road must have heard! Were you expecting it? Absolutely not – I had already given myself the ‘it’s the taking part that matters’ pep talks before the ceremony started. Why do you think you won? Although it is a cliché, I believe that my biggest winning factor was purely being myself. Being authentic is a value that I hold dear, and I think that by putting this across along with clear, varied examples of projects in which I have demonstrated predefined leadership capabilities, is what differentiated me as the winner. How was the Pf Awards Assessment Day? The Pf Awards Assessment Day was well organised, and the judges were all welcoming and kind. Saying that, I was naturally very nervous and unsure what to expect! What are you hoping the win will do for you? I hope that this achievement assists me in seeking new career opportunities, whether they be national or international, allowing me to broaden my experience and eventually advance into a leadership position. I aspire to continue to challenge the status quo whilst adding value to the industry, our customers and mostly importantly patients. Where will you keep your trophy? On the shelf in my bedroom. Would you recommend others enter the Pf Awards in the future? 100%. Not being naturally extroverted, putting myself forwards for the Pf Awards felt very much out of my comfort zone. For me, this experience has reinstated that sometimes the most uncomfortable situations turn out to be the most valuable! Working in the pharmaceutical industry, we are surrounded by such talent and innovation, so I would urge everybody to showcase their great hard work because you just never know what just might come out of it.

COMMERCIAL IMPACT AWARD Moira Sheard and Mark Nugent, Norgine Did you watch the Pf Awards Ceremony? We did, we both watched from home separately, but we had a live WhatsApp group chat with the other Norgine colleagues involved, supporting and celebrating with each other. We were with our respective families, but some colleagues met up in small groups where they lived close to one another, some even got dressed up and had fizz! Not quite an awards dinner but still pretty exciting when we won! How did you feel when your name was announced? Utter disbelief – in fact it still does not seem real. Also absolutely buzzing, excited and slightly disappointed we weren’t all together at the Pf Awards Ceremony to enjoy the moment all together. But there was still plenty of celebration and a tirade of congratulatory e-mails and WhatsApps. Were you expecting it? Moira: Absolutely not even a little bit. This is a relatively new role for me, new model of working for our company and going in we had no idea what exactly Pf were looking for or what the standard/benchmark would be like. Mark: I thought the day went well and we were confident with the information that we provided in the presentation. However, you never know what everyone else is doing so it is hard to expect it. But we were proud of our performance at the assessment. Why do you think you won? We believe the project met the category briefing – clearly showing benefits to our customers, Norgine and most importantly the patients. Our presentation clearly showcased the whole project and included feedback from customers which proved the value of our contribution. Most of all, I think we were truly passionate and proud of the successful outcomes this project will continue to deliver. How was the Pf Awards Assessment Day? It was very well-organised, although perhaps choosing a day when there isn’t a football match the night before would have made getting dinner a bit easier. All the information before and after the Pf Awards Assessment Day was very clear and the

day itself ran perfectly to time and felt like a very friendly environment. Having tables in the large group waiting room would be helpful as it is easier to work at a table rather than on your lap. Some colleagues in other categories found some of the timetabling between rooms quite a rush but appreciate there is a lot of people to coordinate. Overall, all there was a combination of nerves and excitement – like a job interview – without the job! What are you hoping the win will do for you? Moira: Winning this category has really given me confidence – independent external recognition from industry colleagues. I am most proud that Norgine have been recognised as an innovative patient-focused company for supporting this kind of project. Mark: We have been on a journey over the last three years developing the way we work at Norgine and this is a great indicator that we are on the right track. We still want to continue to develop and get even better so we will learn what went well with this project and continue to challenge ourselves to see what else is possible. Where will you keep your trophy? Moira: Mark and I are currently fighting over who gets it! If I win, it will be alongside my husband and sons’ many sporting trophies – right at the front! Mark: I will keep mine in the office, I can’t compete with my children’s trophies. Would you recommend others enter the Pf Awards in the future? Moira: I think the Pf Awards are an excellent opportunity to network with industry colleagues and to showcase examples of how pharma can work collaboratively with our NHS colleagues to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes. To that end, it’s a shame we don’t get to see the examples from other companies of successful winning projects so we can all share best practice. Mark: Absolutely I would recommend this to others. The whole process takes you out of your comfort zone but also focuses the mind and helps you realise all the great things you are doing. You learn so much along the way as well.

FIRST LINE MANAGER AWARD Sue Kemp, Kyowa Kirin Where did you watch the Pf Awards Ceremony? I watched the Pf Awards ceremony in my kitchen, via the live link, along with my family. We had also set up a TEAMS conference call for my team to watch together. This meant that most of my team, and their families, plus my family were all together watching the Pf Awards Ceremony. Most of us had a glass of something sparkly to hand! How did you feel when your name was announced? I was absolutely thrilled (and there is video evidence to prove it!) and completely over the moon. It was amazing to share the moment with my family – big hugs and celebrations! Also, my phone didn’t stop ringing for the next 24 hours with lots of fantastic messages from my colleagues. A great feeling!

Were you expecting it? I don’t think you can ‘expect’ to win, as there are so many great colleagues within your category. You can only do your very best and have confidence in yourself. I desperately wanted to be in the final five candidates and had everything crossed that would happen – so to be announced as winner was incredible.

How was the Pf Awards Assessment Day? The day ran like clockwork, and although it is a nerve-wracking atmosphere there is also a sense of camaraderie and a great opportunity to meet up with many colleagues from throughout my career. The judges do their best to put you at ease under the circumstances and everyone cheers you along back in the ‘holding room’.

Why do you think you won? I felt calm and confident during the assessments, and knew the NHS knowledge test had gone reasonably well as most of the questions were straight forward. I felt the role play went well as we progressed through to some clear outcomes that the ‘representative’ had taken ownership of. The business presentation was harder to judge as I felt confident in my approach but wasn’t entirely sure whether I had covered all the aspects that the judges wanted to see.

What are you hoping the win will do for you? For me, particularly, it is a matter of pride and recognition for myself and for Kyowa Kirin. Where will you keep your trophy? Pride of place on my work desk – to remind me of a very proud moment in my 30-year career. Would you recommend others enter the Pf Awards in the future? Definitely – a great experience, sadly without the Pf Awards Dinner but still a fabulous celebration.

DIGITALLY ENABLED REPRESENTATIVE AWARD Steve Meadows, OUTiCO Ltd Did you watch the Pf Awards Ceremony? Yes, the Outico contestants and management team set up a virtual team meeting that was linked to the live stream. We could all watch it and talk to each other and celebrate our success. The virtual team meeting meant we were all at home, some from our home offices, some in a family setting. People were dressed in a mixture of formalwear and informal wear and some with disco lights as a background and, of course, something to celebrate with. How did you feel when your name was announced? So surprised and so happy and unusually for me a bit speechless. Were you expecting it? I always thought I had chance, but the competition from my colleagues in Outico meant it was always going to be tough and those from other companies were unknowns. It was too close to call. Why do you think you won? It must be a combination of things, some of which sound like a cliché but the thing about clichés is that they are based on things that always work. Planning and preparation minimising the factors you do not have control of. Understanding the NHS and roles of your customers within it and the needs they have in doing their job and how you, your product or service can help them fulfil those needs. When presenting that, the right content and communication are king. Self-awareness: understanding what makes you successful and the flexibility to apply that to different situations.

46 | Pf Awards Brochure 2020

How was the Pf Awards Assessment Day? This was my second time at the Pf Awards Assessment Day, so the process was familiar to me but I was impressed by how many attended and the breadth of the categories. The NHS test and the presentation preparation were the most intense as you have a short time to answer the test but then to build an entire presentation. The role play and the presentation are things I enjoy about the job, both were a real challenge with customers I did not know, with one chance to get it right. What are you hoping the win will do for you? Personally, the recognition that my experience, skills and a deep understanding of the NHS, its structure, function and its people can really make a difference in engaging commercially with the NHS. Bringing new visibility to the role of the digitally enabled representative which has come a long way in the last few years. To the point now that highly-skilled and experienced representatives are working at every level of the NHS, from Primary Care Networks, secondary care, sustainability and transformation partnerships and clinical commissioning groups to NHS England itself, fulfilling every role from conventional sales to market access and partnership working with the NHS. Where will you keep your trophy? After a period in the Outico office, it will live on my desk in my office at home. Would you recommend others enter the Pf Awards in the future? Yes, absolutely, it remains the only national arena where you can be externally tested in your role and compete against other top professionals across the UK and be nationally recognised as the best of the best for your skills and performance.

A word from the judges “The pharmaceutical industry epitomises exceptional organisation, creativity and innovation and the Pf Awards reflect this so well!” Dr. Yashmi Jogessar Philip Barnes, Philip Barnes Consultancy Limited “This was my first time judging at the Pf Awards. I really enjoyed being part of the Pf Awards judging panel and look forward to next year. Being a judge provided a brilliant networking opportunity as well as a chance to see some really interesting presentations. In the Cross-Functional Team category, we saw some fantastic displays of customer and patient centred thinking. All of the teams demonstrated true passion in their projects.” Sally Frazer, Business Coach “A privilege to be part of a day which recognises and rewards outstanding talent and hard work, thank you.”

Dr. Yashmi Jogessar, Code of Practice Trainer, Novus Actus Ltd “The Pf Awards would have been my first which sadly had to be missed, but I can’t wait to experience it next year. I was, nonetheless, very impressed by the Assessment Day. It was exceptionally well organised, structured and provided a fair judgement process for all the candidates, who in true industry style were all knowledgeable, enthusiastic, innovative and so creative...The pharmaceutical industry epitomises exceptional organisation, creativity and innovation and the Pf Awards reflect this so well! “Despite the Pf Awards deserved celebration in reaching an outstanding historical 20-year milestone, what was even more outstanding was the leadership in cancelling the Awards Dinner without any prior government guidance. This, no doubt, prevented the further spread of coronavirus and ultimately saved lives! Thank you Pf Awards!” Kerry Tomaszewski, Director, Jackel Solutions “As ever the Pf Awards were a great success in 2020! This is my 5th year of judging and I am always amazed at the level of organisation that goes into the day, meaning that it just runs so smoothly – despite all of the challenges that are faced! The standard in the Payer Engagement category was very high this year which made it a pleasure to judge.” Kathryn Hallett, Senior Learning Consultant, Excel Communications “Excel is delighted to continue to support the Pf Awards. It was great to see such variety within the groups this year, yet one constant was the depth of commitment demonstrated by each participant to the end patients. Ultimately, this is what unites us in the pharmaceutical industry. It is a shame that there can only be one, well-deserved winner! Congratulations to everyone for taking part in the Pf Awards!”

Richard Trenholm, Managing Director, RTCS Ltd “I am always struck by the commitment and professionalism of entrants, judges and E4H team alike. This year everyone rose to the coronavirus challenge which required some entrants to stream presentations remotely and for everyone to take greater care as we interacted. The overall standard of entrant was amongst the highest I have seen in over 10 years as a judge. I hope everyone is still keeping safe and looking forward to getting back on the road.”

Phil Yates, Coachwise Consultants Ltd. “This year’s Pf Awards Assessment Day was, as always, a tremendous experience for me as a judge. The candidates’ enthusiasm and energy were infectious, their determination to deliver their best performance was incredible and the atmosphere was charged with that familiar Pf blend of excitement and nervousness.” Alison Dudeney, Executive Coach, The Mindworx Ltd “The Pf Awards Assessment Day is a great day to test the mettle of business managers, pitting the best in the business against each other. It was brilliantly run with a high calibre of candidates showing themselves at their best.”

“For organisations that are thinking about entering their people into the 21st year anniversary awards next year, I would say that Pf Awards are more than just pitting your talented people against the rest of the industry, it is an opportunity to further develop the skills of the very people that you want to retain and grow” Annie Dingley 50 | Pf Awards Brochure 2020

Annie Dingley, Director, Dingley Development Ltd “I have been privileged to judge the same category on a number of occasions now and as a result have had the pleasure of seeing candidates return to fight for the title! The most rewarding part is when they have taken on board the constructive feedback that they received following the Pf Awards previously and put it into action – genuinely delighting the healthcare professional in the process. For organisations that are thinking about entering their people into the 21st year anniversary awards next year, I would say that Pf Awards are more than just pitting your talented people against the rest of the industry (although that is pretty awesome in itself!), it is an opportunity to further develop the skills of the very people that you want to retain and grow. Thank you to everyone that took part, it was a pleasure to watch!” Emma Clayton, Managing Director, Grey Bear Consultancy “The diligence of the logistics and candidate experience is first class. Mel, Frankie and the team work tirelessly to achieve the best day for both candidate and judges. They even accommodated the first virtual judging for those of us experiencing the early onslaught of coronavirus. Give this team a challenge and they most certainly rise to it! It’s always an honour to be a part of the day and to recognise the great talent in our industry.”

“It’s always an honour to be a part of the day and to recognise the great talent in our industry” Emma Clayton Mark Pringle, Founding Director, MORExcellent “The Pf Awards 2020 Assessment Day was again one of the highlights of the year. Smooth and effortless logistics meant the day ran like clockwork, meaning candidates and judges could relax and be at their best. The energy and excitement across the day is amazing, and I would encourage anyone in the industry to come and feel the buzz!”
