Introduction
W
elcome to the 18th year of Pf Awards, the largest and premier awards in the healthcare industry which, year after year, rewards excellence in pharmaceutical and medical device sales. On March 8th, at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, we once again came together to recognise and reward exceptional achievement in our industry. We recognise the roles that both individuals and teams play in the education of the healthcare professionals, which ultimately benefits the patients that are at the heart of everything we do. Last year I stood before all of you and announced that 2017 was the biggest ever Pf Awards to date – but we’ve surpassed that milestone and I can confirm that 2018 is even bigger! More companies than ever before entered, all our candidates yet again raised the bar, and the best of the best were awarded for their incredible achievements on the night. As many of you already know, the Pf Awards is my baby, and every detail matters. This year was the biggest challenge to date as the Assessment Day fell on the same day as heavy snow, cancelled trains and closed roads. We had 24 hours to tweak the assessment process but we did it. I want to say a huge thank you to the judges who somehow got there (I’m sure I spotted some sledges outside…). A huge personal thank you once more to our sponsors and their continued commitment to Pf Awards. We couldn’t do it without them. In fact, we couldn’t do it without any of the people who make this industry one of the most exciting in the world. Read on to find out more about the talented people who this year will join the exclusive Pf Award Winners Club – and I look forward to seeing you all there in September. MEL ANIE HAMER Founding Director, E4H

The Judges “It was an absolute pleasure to be asked to support the Pf Awards this year as a judge. The competitors in the category that I was involved in were a credit to their organisations, the industry and most importantly to themselves. With differing backgrounds and therapy areas, it was hugely interesting to see how each competitor took on the challenge set out before them. The key thing that resonated most was their passion for patients, something that was consistent throughout the day.” Ian Robinson, Pharmability Consulting Ltd “Another great year despite the challenges that were posed to all attending on the day! Well done to Mel and the whole team – a fantastic job!” Kerry Tomaszewski, Jackel Solutions Ltd

The standard of candidates was extremely high and it is great to have this platform available to recognise new and existing talent across so many roles within the industry.” Anne Ballard, Anne Ballard Associates “It was a privilege to judge such a high quality group of pharma sales people, they all did themselves and their companies proud. To sit with a GP, Dr. Naveed Ahmed, listen to the conversations and then critique each with him was actually a very valuable experience for me as a judge. It gave me food for thought around my experience in leading sales teams and communicating brand messages.” Mike Biggs, MEGB Interim Management Ltd

The Winners
“Winning this award has meant a lot to me. The timing couldn’t be more perfect; I went through a lot of changes in the early part of the year which made me question my ability and being recognised as Primary Care Specialist is a huge honour. I have been in the industry for four years now and every year I have gone from strengthto-strength through hard work, commitment and determination. To be recognised across industry has been the reward at the end of all that hard work. It is a reward that acknowledges that patient focus, making the NHS efficient and better for all of us and ensuring evidence-based medicine is the top of all HCPs’ agendas is the best way to work in the pharmaceutical environment. I would like to thank everyone involved for recognising me and giving me this opportunity.” Iram Meharban, MSD, winner of the Primary Care Specialist Award
“Being nominated to represent Star Medical at such a prestigious awards ceremony was a true honour for me; it provided a platform to showcase my capabilities to industry experts alongside many of my peers. The Pf Awards 2018 is very special to me as I had missed out on a win in the previous year. The disappointment was quite personal and I was determined to use this to fuel my passion to succeed and draw on the experiences of the people around me to develop myself further. The entire evening was a blur of anticipation followed by a surge of relief when I heard my name called out as one of the winners for the Primary Care Specialist category. Winning this award means the world to me as not only does it tangibly prove exactly what I’ve strived to achieve, it vindicates my passion and hard work for this industry. The feeling of winning is indescribable and without the support of my family and colleagues, none of this would have been achievable. I would highly recommend anybody with ambition to put themselves forward for the challenging yet fun awards.” Ahmed Ghumra, Star, winner of the Primary Care Specialist Award
“So firstly, I am completely over the moon to be one of the winners of this category, but I am also equally as shocked as I didn’t expect it at all – it felt like it was a really strong field. I feel like it’s a huge privilege to be given this award at such a prestigious event especially as it’s my first time entering the Pf Awards and many of my excellent colleagues in MSD entered. I think it’s wonderful this industry has such a platform to recognise achievement in this way even for the likes of myself who is new to industry and is at the very early stages of my career. I really am so honoured!” Sarah Valente-Smith, MSD, winner of the Best Newcomer Award “I feel like it’s a huge privilege to be given this award at such a prestigious event especially as it’s my first time entering”

Before being asked to enter, I was aware of the history and the high esteem in which this event is held across the pharmaceutical industry. When I heard my name announced at the ceremony, I felt an incredible sense of pride and achievement. This achievement was all the sweeter as the Assessment Day was really challenging, and even more so because of the adverse weather conditions. “After three years of hard work we are so pleased and proud that we have been recognised by the Pf Awards for our unique and innovative flexible On-boarding Programme. What we now offer our InField teams really reflects our drive and culture at AbbVie. Not only do we give the learner a great experience, making them the centre of their own journey, but also raise their capability enabling their interactions with HCPs to be of a high standard, which ultimately has a remarkable impact on patients’ lives, which is core to the culture at AbbVie. As a business, the level of flexibility this new approach brings allows us to respond in an agile and flexible way in an ever-changing environment and is crucial to support our future success. For us winning these awards has meant great recognition in our company, we have been on a journey to change the hearts and minds of our stakeholders as this approach is unique to our industry as a whole. Our stakeholders now have confidence in the programme and are very much engaged with the new way of working. We are very proud of what we have achieved in a year when the onboarding project picked up two other learning industry awards.Winning the Pf Awards has been a great reflection of the achievement and how far we’ve come.” Chris Phillips and Elizabeth Collman, AbbVie, winners of the Learning & Development Award “Thank you also for organising the Awards! It was my first time entering, and I found it a fantastic experience from beginning to end. The event was especially great fun, and a brilliant opportunity to meet with contacts both new and old.” Fiona Wallis, Novartis Pharmaceuticals UK Ltd, winner of the Emerging Talent Award
“It is great that the Pf Awards have expanded to include cross-functional teams and I feel incredibly proud that the hard work and effort our amazing team put in was recognised by the judges. It was an honour to collect the award on behalf of the team and I wish to thank the Pf Awards organisers for allowing us this opportunity.” Owen Hopley, MSD, winner of the Cross-Functional Team Award
“The Assessment Day was rigorous and challenging, but fun at the same time” “I feel immensely proud to have won both the Experienced Account Manager and Commercial Innovation Awards at the Pf Awards on March 8th, especially as it was International Women’s Day! I would like to thank Novartis for giving me the initial opportunity to represent the company. I must say the Assessment Day was rigorous and challenging, but fun at the same time. I was up against a multitude of experienced candidates from various pharma companies but the day gave me the chance to demonstrate what I and we at Novartis strive to achieve for patients every day.” Claire Smith, Novartis Pharmaceuticals UK Ltd, winner of the Experienced Account Manager and Commercial Innovation Awards “It feels absolutely amazing to have won the Best Newcomer Award and to be recognised so early into the role. I really enjoyed the Pf Awards process and would definitely encourage anyone thinking about entering to go for it. Winning this award has certainly added to my motivation for future success within the industry.” Zuchaela Smylie, GSK in partnership with Ashfield, winner of the Best Newcomer Award
“I’m over the moon to have won the Medical Scientific Liaison and Outstanding Performer Awards this year. Being nominated to take part in the largest pharma industry awards is a huge privilege and a fantastic chance to submit your personal achievements. Then comes the daunting part when you make it through to the Assessment Day and will compete against top class industry professionals – it’s a far more enjoyable day than most would imagine! Winning these awards means so much to me both professionally and personally, it highlights the support and encouragement I have received from AbbVie, my manager and colleagues and demonstrates the increasing importance of the MSL role as part of the in-field industry team. I’d like to say huge congratulations to all the finalists on the night and a big thank you to the Pf Awards team for not letting the ‘Beast from the East’ defeat them – an outstanding display of agility when the unexpected derails best laid plans.” Catherine Pollard, AbbVie, winner of the Medical Scientific Liaison and Outstanding Performer Award “I am so happy, this award means a lot to me and for representing LEO Pharma. Thanks once again for making me a winner at such a prestigious ceremony.” Manisha Raja, LEO Pharma, winner of the Secondary Care Specialist Award
“Winning the Emerging Talent Award is special. The assessment process was a testing but rewarding process in itself and to win the Award is a bonus! I am very much looking forward to meeting with previous and present fellow winners at the Pf Awards Winners Club later in the year.” Gregory Palin, Star, winner of the Emerging Talent Award “What an experience! I thoroughly enjoyed the Pf Awards. Everything about the process is professional and rewarding, from the written assessment right through to the presentation. I felt so supported throughout and being able to walk away on the night of the Awards as a winner was incredibly special.” Oliver Roberts, MSD, winner of the Emerging Talent Award “What an experience! I thoroughly enjoyed the Pf Awards. Everything about the process is rewarding”

“To win the New Account Manager Award was an absolute honour and to be involved in such a prestigious event, a privilege. I come from a commercial background so to battle it out with the best in the industry and come out on top was a very proud moment for me. Thank you to everyone involved.” Chris Maylor, Boehringer Ingelheim, winner of the New Account Manager Award
“I was fortunate to attend the Pf Awards and even more fortunate to win the Joint Working category. I was so shocked to win the Award and was literally speechless at the post award interview! Now that I have had time to reflect on the events of the evening, I would just like to say what an honour it was for me to accept the Award. We know that our joint working project really makes a difference to patients’ lives, and to be able to showcase this, and to be recognised with such a prestigious award, makes me really proud. Coloplast is a global leading medical devices company that works in partnership with the NHS across Continence, Ostomy, Wound Care and Urology, so for us to win this award in a pharma-dominated event was truly incredible. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend the Assessment Day in Leicester due to the terrible weather that we experienced in March. “Now that I have had time to reflect on the events of the evening, I would just like to say what an honour it was for me to accept the Award.”

I was therefore one of the candidates who underwent remote assessment. Despite the challenges this was undertaken in such a professional manner. I am very pleased that I took part in this process and will certainly recommend it to my colleagues.” Ruth Christer, Coloplast, winner of the Joint Working Award “I would like to thank the Pf Awards for holding such a great event – both the Assessment Day and awards evening were exceptional. The environment was always positive, despite challenging people to bring out the best in them. I believe all of the applicants within Bayer benefitted hugely from being a part of something so worthwhile. On a personal note, it was a huge honour to scoop the ‘Regional Business Manager’ Award – something that means so much to me. It was a great experience to be a part of and I learnt a huge amount from the process. The Award not only gives me confidence to persist with my career ambitions, but it more importantly illustrates what a fantastic team of people I work with, and the wonderful work we did in 2017. I want to thank everyone I work with as this is much more than a personal award in my opinion. I am looking forward to the event in 2019, but for now; Pf Awards 2018 – goodnight, it's been emotional!” Adam Clements, Bayer, winner of the Regional Manager Award
“This is the first time I have entered the Awards, and I must say just how impressed I was with the standard of the organisers, the rigorous judging process and of course the Awards evening. Winning a Pf Award made me feel so proud to be a part of a great organisation that is happy to showcase its talent.” Priyanka Trehan, MSD, winner of the Account Project Award
“Winning the Pf Award for CrossFunctional Team fills me with such a huge sense of pride; pride for all of the team members who put so much into ensuring we achieved our business goals and worked effectively as a team to get there. Every individual invested a huge amount of energy along the way and this award represents and recognises all that we did together, through the highs, and the lows. I couldn’t have been prouder to lead this team and have the opportunity to work with some incredible people.” Catherine Sidgreaves, MSD, winner of the Cross-Functional Team Award “It’s a true honour to have been able to represent the outstanding work of my colleagues in the Hepatitis C crossfunctional team in 2017 and winning the Pf Team Award allows us all to be proud of what we achieved. Trust, Respect, United…” Melanie Barker, MSD, Cross-Functional Team Award “We work hard to truly partner with our local stakeholders to make a difference to population health. Winning this award for one of our projects really does give me the drive to continue the great work we do throughout the rest of the country – thank you” “I feel unbelievably proud that MSD’s work to support the Public Health England national immunisation programme has had such fantastic recognition. We work hard to truly partner with our local stakeholders to make a difference to population health. Winning this award for one of our projects really does give me the drive to continue the great work we do throughout the rest of the country – thank you.” Sandy Lindsey, MSD, winner of the Account Project Award
“I am absolutely thrilled to have won the Pf Award for Nurse Advisor 2018 and been able to promote IQVIA at such a prestigious event and demonstrate that IQVIA are delivering outstanding Patient Engagement Services. The assessment process was challenging but incredibly inspiring and motivating and I am proud that I was able to demonstrate that we make a real difference to patient care.” Dawn Havron, IQVIA, winner of the Nurse Advisor Award “Thank you for a great event and a career highlight for me. I am immensely proud of our project and the difference it makes to so many patients. This is the second year in a row that Coloplast has won the Pf Joint Working Award and truly demonstrates our passion to work in partnership with the NHS and drive programmes that improve patient care.” Jonathan Walker, Coloplast, winner of the Joint Working Award
