Welcome to Police Fleet Expo 2024 … Celebrating a 20th Anniversary milestone, in the great city of Fort Worth, TX!
Located on a bluff overlooking the Trinity River, Fort Worth is where cowboys, culture, and community merge to form an exceptional lifestyle. This cosmopolitan city, filled with internationally recognized museums such as the Kimbell Art Museum and the Amon Carter Museum of American Art, began as a stop on the Chisholm Trail and has grown into an internationally recognized destination where people and art thrive together. It is an integral part of the Metroplex.
Fort Worth is approximately 30 miles from Dallas and the entire area is commonly referred to as the Dallas - Fort Worth - Arlington Metropolitan Area. The Fort Worth part of this complex metropolis was initially settled as a fort in 1849. During the days when cattle drives were common, the fort became a favorite stopping point along the Chisholm Trail. Later, Fort Worth became an important holding place for cattle being shipped by rail.
Today, Fort Worth is everything you would expect from a major metropolitan area, although it manages to hold on to its reputation as a “rough and tumble” cowtown. The people are thought to be more “laid back” than their Dallas counterparts. Fort Worth is a good example of the merging of country and city… rural and urban. The city offers such attractions as cowboy museums to keep that “country” image intact.
Downtown is visitor-friendly with sidewalks that invite strolling on the streets, which are “lit up” like a Christmas tree at night. Downtown Fort Worth can be accessed by the Trinity Railway Express (TRE) and is navigable by bus if you arrive via the TRE. The District also offers Wild West re-enactments and is conveniently located just north of the downtown area.
This area offers more than 2,000 hotel rooms, with more than 11,000 rooms citywide that is very convenient to downtown. Amid downtown, people still take the time to mosey, and you are apt to see businesspeople wearing cowboy hats. One part of this charming downtown of Fort Worth is the Sundance Square.
Founded as a lawless outpost, many visitors think Fort Worth only offers dusty cowboy boots and pastures dotted with cattle. It does offer these things, thanks to the Historic Stockyards housing the world’s only twice-daily cattle drive. But Fort Worth also boasts a different side: sophistication, modernization, and class. One of the largest cities in the country, Dallas’s neighbor impresses with museums, attractions, and restaurants.
The Stockyards National Historic District is the section of the city that gives Fort Worth the “Cowtown” part of its identity. Take a guided tour through the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame; two-step in an authentic saloon; watch a live country concert at Billy Bob’s Texas (the world’s largest honky-tonk) or shop for a 10-gallon cowboy hat in Stockyards Station. Here, the Fort Worth Stockyards Championship Rodeo takes place year-round (every Friday and Saturday night), and the world’s only cattle drive, twice daily at 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., herds 16-longhorn cattle down the bricks of Exchange Ave. Dine on cowboy cuisine at
the famous Lonesome Dove Western Bistro or enjoy a hearty steak at Hunter Brothers’ H3 Ranch. Fort Worth has something for everyone!

On display, Ford Pro will have an F150 Lightning and Mach-E. Ford is also planning to have some EV options available.
Dodge Law will have the Dodge Durango Pursuit and Dodge Charger Pursuit vehicles on display…and at the track. The big news this year is Stellantis has announced the arrival of the Jeep Wagoneer L Unmarked Investigation SUV. Intended for government duties, the Wagoneer L Unmarked Investigation SUV is designed with versatility in mind. To that point, there are several notable features available, such as an emergency deck, grille, quarter window and visor lighting, a siren and speaker system, special window tint, special wiring harness and power distribution center, and a pre-delivery road test. Beyond these few items, this government-spec Wagoneer L offers more than 130 safety and security goodies.
Directly in front of the bus drop-off, attendees will find “Vendor Village” with several police vehicle equipment vendors displaying their latest offerings. Attendees have the opportunity to stop by each vendor and see products installed on an actual vehicle and get a feel for exactly how the equipment works, installs, and functions.
The Bridgestone Driving Experience allows attendees to test-drive police vehicles with the latest Firestone Firehawk Police Pursuit tires. During this exercise, attendees will have the chance to compare the Firehawk against other tires and feel the difference. This is a rare opportunity to compare apples-to-apples when it comes to testing tires…same
location, same track, same vehicles, same conditions. The Eagles Canyon skid pad can flood the area with its built-in irrigation system to create an incredibly unique driving experience. A motorcycle course is back at DriveX this year, as well as a test area for electric bikes.

DRIVING SUCCESS: IMPROVING POLICE FLEET EFFICIENCY WITH TELEMATICS AND T-MOBILE
by Dale Stockton
In today’s rapidly evolving law enforcement environment, police fleet managers are faced with the complex task of optimizing operational efficiency, ensuring officer safety, and maximizing resource utilization. With technological advancements driving significant changes in fleet management, the integration of telematics solutions has emerged as both powerful and transformative. Among the leading players in this arena are Geotab, renowned for its advanced telematics capabilities, and T-Mobile for Government, a premier provider of wireless services for the public sector. Together, they offer a compelling solution that not only streamlines fleet operations but also enhances overall performance and safety.
Predictive Maintenance:
Proactive and Cost-Effective
Consider a scenario where a law enforcement agency’s fleet is comprised of various vehicles ranging from patrol cars to specialized units. Traditionally, maintenance schedules have been based on mileage or fixed intervals, leading to potential oversights or unnecessary servicing. However, with Geotab’s predictive maintenance capability running on T-Mobile’s robust and resilient network, fleet managers gain real-time insights into each vehicle’s operational status.
Geotab’s system continuously monitors multiple aspects of vehicle operation. By analyzing this data in conjunction with historical performance trends, the system can identify potential maintenance issues before they escalate. Geotab monitors engine fault code information and provides comprehensive data that allows for accurate diagnosis of vehicle issues. If an anomaly is detected in a patrol car’s engine performance during routine operations, Geotab’s analytics can alert the fleet manager to schedule maintenance promptly. This is in stark contrast to the all-to-often occurrence of a patrol vehicle being operated for multiple shifts after a maintenancerequired warning light comes on. This proactive
approach not only reduces repair costs but also minimizes vehicle downtime, ensuring that each vehicle remains in optimal and safe condition for duty.
Fuel Savings: Optimizing Efficiency and Sustainability
Due to the 24/7 on-road nature of patrol operations, fuel expenses represent a significant portion of an agency’s budget. With Geotab’s telematics solutions, fleet managers can unlock substantial savings through enhanced fuel efficiency. Imagine a scenario where a patrol unit’s route optimization is dynamically adjusted based on real-time traffic conditions and incident alerts. Geotab’s intelligent tracking algorithms, combined with T-Mobile’s highspeed data connectivity, enable vehicles to navigate the most fuel-efficient routes. Additionally, Geotab’s idle time management feature identifies instances of prolonged idling, prompting actionable insights to mitigate excessive fuel use. These optimizations not only result in cost savings but also contribute to reducing the department’s carbon footprint, an area of growing concern in some communities.
Officer Safety: Real-Time Insights for Enhanced Protection
Officer safety is a priority in any agency and the use of telematics can play a key role in improving safety related to vehicle operations. Geotab’s telematics solutions, powered by T-Mobile for Government, offer advanced features that significantly enhance officer safety and situational awareness.
Consider a scenario where a large-scale, high-risk tactical operation is unfolding quickly. Geotab’s real-time location tracking provides the command center with precise information about each vehicle’s location, even those that are not equipped with CAD-integrated automatic vehicle location (often the case with plain cars or specialized equipment). This enables a more coordinated response and improved
situational awareness. Also, Geotab’s geofencing capabilities support defined virtual boundaries, such as restricted or extreme-risk zones. If a vehicle enters a geofenced area, instant alerts enable swift intervention and help ensure officers are within prescribed operational parameters.
Increased Accountability: Data-Driven Insights for Enhanced Performance
Accountability is fundamental in optimizing fleet performance and adherence to vehicle operations policies. Geotab’s comprehensive reporting and analytics, combined with T-Mobile’s robust data infrastructure, empower fleet managers with actionable insights into driver behavior and vehicle usage.
For example, suppose a patrol unit’s driving patterns exhibit aggressive acceleration or harsh braking. Geotab’s analytics identify these behaviors and generate detailed reports for each driver, highlighting areas for improvement. Department managers can then implement targeted training programs or
coaching sessions to promote safer driving habits and compliance with departmental policies. Additionally, Geotab’s integration with onboard sensors provides telemetry data, allowing for precise monitoring of vehicle performance and maintenance needs.
Implementation Considerations
Regardless of the manufacturer, implementing telematics in a police fleet may result in resistance from labor groups concerned about the potential for targeted monitoring and disciplinary use. This can be mitigated by emphasizing the positive aspects of telematics, such as enhancing operational efficiency and officer safety. Rather than focusing on discipline, framing telematics as a supportive tool for promoting safer driving habits and proactive maintenance can foster collaboration and acceptance. It also helps to recognize exceptional operators and safe driving milestones. Involving frontline officers and transparently addressing concerns prior to rollout can facilitate a positive perception of telematics as a strategic asset benefiting both officers and the community.
Conclusion: Transforming Fleet Management for the Modern Era
The synergy between Geotab’s advanced telematics solutions and T-Mobile’s nationwide network represents a paradigm shift in police fleet management. By leveraging predictive maintenance, optimizing fuel efficiency, enhancing officer safety, and fostering accountability, this integrated approach empowers fleet managers and department supervisors to operate with unprecedented awareness.
Telematics is not just about data collection—it’s about providing actionable insights that drive meaningful improvements in operational capability, resource utilization, and officer safety. As law enforcement agencies continue to embrace digital transformation, investing in innovative technology solutions becomes imperative for staying ahead of challenges and delivering a higher level of service.
State and local agencies can now take advantage of the Geotab and T-Mobile partnership with an all-inone fleet management bundle that’s available for one low monthly price. The bundle comes with Geotab ProPlus and provides near real-time vehicle tracking and advanced driver coaching. Plus, you’ll have a dedicated support team and scalable options that
will help ensure the implementation goes smoothly while meeting the needs of your organization.
The bottom line is clear: Geotab powered by T-Mobile provides visibility into fleet operations, enabling proactive engagement, and delivering significant risk mitigation. This translates into improved operational capability, a sharper mission focus, and an overall higher level of service to ensure safer and more secure communities.

FUEL MANAGEMENT AND TRACKING WITH AMERICAN FUEL MANAGEMENT
by Nick McNeil
American Fuel Management (AFM) is a leader in automated fuel management. Not only do they distribute the MCS Sapphire Lite fuel management system, but they are the exclusive distributor of this product in the US. The MCS is a new product (in the US) and it is beginning to get the attention that it deserves…and for good reason.
Fuel management is utilized primarily for two reasons: One being fuel security and of course, the other is for fuel tracking. For some businesses and departments, fuel can be one of the greatest expenses they have and having the capability to understand the fuel spend is absolutely critical to the bottom line. Essentially, if you use fuel, you should have optimal knowledge of your fuel spend. The MCS product can capture all the necessary information such as driver, vehicle, date/time, how much fuel, which fuel product, what site, and which pump the fuel came from. That information is identified with every transaction. With that said, the MCS is an all-weather, cloud-based, multi-fluid, IP 66 rated, UL listed system that comes standard with two hose connections with the ability to connect up to four per
unit. The system connects to the cloud via cellular communication.
For clients located in areas with limited to no cellular ability in more remote areas, AFM provides a proprietary USB for data extraction. Drivers are able to interact with the unit in a number of ways (PIN code, key fob, and phone app). This makes it extremely functional and versatile for a number of businesses, large or small, that have drivers who have different preferences.
Another popular function is the “2 tag” system. This means they are able to track fuel use by tracking not just the driver or the vehicle, but both the driver and the vehicle. This is popular because there are instances where a driver may drive more than one vehicle. Being able to track both ways makes reporting extremely convenient for management. Since this is a cloud-based system, necessary personnel are able to have access to this information and run fuel usage reports from anywhere in the world, as long as they have an internet connection. The system can be used on stationary fuel tanks as
well as fuel trucks, due to its 12v/24v power supply. Extreme weather is not an issue, either. It can literally handle rain, sleet, or snow and withstand temperatures from 131 to -47 degrees Fahrenheit. The MCS can also integrate with level monitoring systems. That way, users can check fuel levels on the same platform, which saves time by not having to go to two websites to see the desired information.
AFM can also set the system to upload data to the cloud either hourly, six times a day, or once a day. Users can also click the “Instant Sync” button in the MCS Connect portal to update the data. There’s also a ton of memory…it has the ability to hold up to 4,000 transactions as well as 10,000 users per unit. AFM likes to describe this product as a fuel management system that has entry-level cost, but high-end functionality.

FOR POLICE VEHICLES
by Police Fleet Professional Staff
Today’s police vehicles are mobile patrol units, so our first responders spend a great deal of time in them, which means they need to be as safe as possible for officers as well as the citizens they protect on a daily basis. Due to the nature of police pursuits, vehicle parts can take a lot of wear and tear in all kinds of terrain and

MODEL: 2024 TRACER 9 GT+
100% electric powertrain is silent, exhaust-free, produces minimal heat, has instant torque from zero rpm, and is highly maneuverable. With a ‘fuel’ cost of a penny per mile and a maintenance-free powertrain, a Zero Motorcycles patrol fleet offers the ability to save your agency money while also giving you a tactical advantage.
Some of the key features include a maintenance-free powertrain for the life of the motorcycle power pack, and a top speed of 102 MPH with a maximum 176 miles range on a charge with regenerative braking and options for on or off-road use.
Advantages of Electric Patrolling
With no gears, clutch or noise, officers can focus on patrolling. They can perform highly technical maneuvers during intense situations where performance and agility are essential. While in crowds or indoors, the absence of exhaust eliminates ventilation concerns and opens new, or improves current, patrolling scenarios.
• Patrolling and Investigating Public Lands (parks, beaches, dirt trails, running paths)
• Event Safety and Crowd Control (concerts, parades, sporting events)
• General City Patrols (dense pedestrian areas, city streets, local emergency calls)
• Stealth Patrols (drug enforcement, burglary, security, campus environments, other situations where silence is an advantage)
The new tactical advantage allows for instant acceleration from a silent idle and it is engineered with a lightweight frame for greater maneuverability. For multitasking, the police officer can ride without needing to shift and silently idle while among crowds.
Pursue subjects without engine noise along with the ability to stealthily take off from a hideout. Riding indoors or in close confines allows officers to leverage the advantage of surprise all while being socially responsible with vehicle use.
ZERO Motorcycles eliminates gasoline complications with reduced noise and exhaust disturbances. Recharge anywhere without the concerns of gas or oil spills along with the dangers of burn or fire risks. All this while promoting green technology and improving the environmental credentials of local authorities.
