DON’T BE A CRAB IN A BUCKET

DON’T BE A CRAB IN A BUCKET I’M A BIG PROPONENT OF SURROUNDING MYSELF WITH LIKEMINDED, POSITIVE, POWERFUL, SUCCESSFUL, QUALITY INDIVIDUALS. Why? Because I believe in the law of averages. You are the average of the five people you spend your time with. If you’re spending time with people that aren’t where you aspire to be consciously or subconsciously, you’re going to be dragged down. Be intentional when building and creating your tribe whether they’re friends, business associates, people you can rely on or rub elbows with consistently because it will have a massive impact on the results of your business.

THE BASIS OF AFFIRMATION IS WHAT YOU BELIEVE AND HEAR DAY IN AND DAY OUT. The people you surround yourself are crucial to affecting what that is. If you find yourself in a situation with a family or friend that is a pessimist, you get to a point where you must limit your exposure to those type of people. It’s vital you protect your mindset. There’s an analogy that can help point you in the direction of who you should be spending your time with and how much time you should be spending with them based on what they bring to the table and their level of influence. You have 3 buckets and the people you surround yourself with can be divided into 3 categories; 3-second people, 3-month people, 3-year people. If you have a negative person who’s taking from your energy instead of providing, they fall into the 3-minute category. There’s no benefit to spending time with those people so you should force yourself to limit your exposure, maybe getting together for happy hour once a month or every few months.

At the other end of the spectrum you have your close business associates, your mastermind group, the people – no matter how much time you spend with them – continue to elevate your situation. The better the conversation when it comes to growth, progress and areas of improvement, are the people you should be spending your time with.

ENERGY IS CONTAGIOUS, IT’S TRANSFERRABLE. If you’re surrounding yourself with negative energy, you’re going to feel more negative. That’s why you need to be intentional. You might feel selfish, but selfish is not a negative word. In the event of plane going down, you’re advised to put your mask on first. That’s not selfish. We want to serve other people, but you can’t pour from an empty cup. You must take care of yourself, invest in yourself, so the best version of you is available to help other people and you’ll be exponentially more effective. Self-care isn’t just about working out, eating right or sleeping regularly it’s about your core group of people. If you surround yourself with people who are successful, they’ll elevate you and introduce you to other successful people, so you hold yourself in higher regards and can level up whether that’s in relationships or business. You’re never going to have 5 people who are perfect in every category, but the more self-aware we are the more we realize we have a lot of things we need to work on. This realization and desire to want to be better takes work. When something happens do you look at the situation and blame someone or something else, or do you take a hard look and realized the root of the problem was within your operating systems. When you look at your circle of influencers position yourself where you need to be at any certain time to raise and elevate yourself within that pillar. Mastermind groups are great way to surround yourself with people who are thriving in different areas and can help you find a solution when there is a problem you’re not able to solve. A LOT OF TIMES WHEN YOU GET INTO BUSINESS YOU REALIZE HOW ALONE YOU ARE. You don’t have anyone to talk to. You don’t know the answer to something, and you don’t know who to ask and then you shoot from the hip not knowing if you’re making the right or wrong decision. That’s why I recommend joining something like a Mastermind group. Research these groups, look at the roster and the caliber of people – it doesn’t have to be gym owners – could be networking groups, or other business owners, but find the area you’re looking to prosper and grow in and look at the people you’ll be surrounded by and make a move.

You may not have the cash flow for some of these groups but find other ways of building your tribe. You need to be intentional with your growth because it’s not going to happen on its own. Step out of your comfort zone and talk to people. Not every solution is going to be found in Business 101. Other people have gone through it and they probably have an answer you just need to find them. When you have a support system you don’t wear the burden on your own. You can spread the struggle out and get the input and when you can lean on other people, there’s not a Mastermind that’s not worth it. It’s a return on investment. I say don’t be a crab in a bucket because you don’t want to be dragged down by people that aren’t going to support you. Successful individuals like to see other people succeed. Crabs in a bucket use the ones trying to escape as leverage and pull them back.

EVERYONE WANTS A BETTER QUALITY OF LIFE, WHAT THAT IS IS SUBJECTIVE, BUT YOU CAN’T EXPECT THINGS TO HAPPEN WITHOUT TAKING ACTION. Take a hard look at the people you hang out with. If it’s all doom and gloom start finding different people. It should be intimidating, but comfort leads to complacency and the people you surround yourself with should be challenging you. If you’re not progressing, you’re dying slowly. Find the people that are going to help build your individual growth and throw the other ones into the 3minute bucket. If you haven’t already found your group of likeminded individuals that genuinely want to see you succeed, I have one for you, and it’s free.
