Missing and Exploited Children TCOLE 3275

This course is intended as an introduction to issues related to responding to and investigating missing and exploited children cases. Based on their role as a telecommunicator, first responder, investigator or supervisor, by the end of this section the student will be able to determine specific steps to take upon receiving a report of a missing child while considering factors such as child history, individuals at the scene, evidence collection, search procedure and available resources. This is a mandated course for Intermediate and Advanced Certification for Peace Officers. Also, Telecommunicators receive 8 hrs TCOLE credit. Class will be held at the Randall County Fire Department Training Facility which is located at 1111 E Loop 335 South Amarillo, TX

Telecommunicators are essential in recognizing potential human trafficking calls: Listed below are just a few things that you will learn from this class: 

You will be able to specify methods used by traffickers to locate and manipulate potential victims.

You will be able to categorize trafficking crimes according to available state criminal provisions.

You will be able to articulate conditions that may lead children to run away as well as the methods in which offenders specifically target this population.

You will be able to contrast the dynamics of teen and youth communication trends with the increased risk for offenders to manipulate young people.

You will be able to recognize the problems in your community, big or small, that can lead to trafficking.

Your Instructor, Dr. Tomi Grover, PhD., serves as an educator and modern abolitionist. She hosts an anti-trafficking initiative called TraffickStop to educate, advocate, and engage people on the issues of human trafficking through comprehensive and strategic responses. She is a certified instructor for the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). She has served the Office of the Attorney General's Human Trafficking Prevention Task Force since January 2010. Tomi holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Social Work. She serves as an adjunct professor for Dallas Baptist University, Howard Payne University, and LeTourneau University. Historically, she had a twelve-year career as a certified telecommunicator, and received certification as a law enforcement officer after receiving her Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Science in Criminal Justice from the University of Florida.
