Powis Castle Unlike most of the castles of Wales, which were intended to suppress the Welsh, Powis was built by the twelfth-century princes of Powys to keep out the English. Almost continually inhabited, and today the residence of the eighth Earl of Powis, this distinctive red stone castle still dominates the Severn Valley just south of Welshpool, Powys. Among its attractions are a beautiful seventeenth-century Italianate garden and The Clive Museum, home to many treasures from India.

Red Squirrel Instantly recognisable, the red squirrel has been a part of this country’s heritage and folklore for many years. However, due to fragmentation of woodland and competition from the more successful grey squirrel, there are now fewer than 140,000 left in Britain, approximately 85% of which are in Scotland. The Isle of Wight is home to the largest population in southern England.

Senedd £12.99 The National Assembly building designed by Richard Rogers This is the story of an astonishing transformation as Wales entered the twenty-first century and embraced a new democratic direction. The Senedd, designed by architect Richard Rogers, rose as the country’s distinctive ultra-modern forum for democracy, the expression of the people’s voices and diversity. From this plinth and promontory Wales looks the world in the eye. Given its embodiment of two concepts, a visionary architectural flight and an all too human arena of government, the Senedd was inevitably forged in passion and furious argument. In this book, Trevor Fishlock takes the reader on a journey from the first idea for a National Assembly for Wales, through to the design, building and outcome. With stunning new photographs of the Senedd building by Andrew Molyneux, this book shows how the Senedd became a provocative and inspirational reality.
