T
he question on everyone’s lips this Fall: if the Cariboo Ski Touring Club invests in a bigger, better and faster Olympic tracksetting Pisten Bully, will that be bad luck and it won’t snow this year? But the season has prevailed and not only is the tracksetting even better but so is the facility. Cont’d on page 3

Cont’d from page 2 With an enhanced rental shop, the club members and drop- in guests have been taking advantage of every snow day through Christmas break and weekends. In fact, from the look of the parking lot on most weekdays, it appears people are calling in sick to come out and ski. The kids’ programs are bursting with enthusiastic youth trekking through bush trails and taking off down the Adventure Park jumps while night lessons and guided ski tours buzz with the bustle of new skiers or improving skiers taking advantage of instructors and guides showing off the sport of cross country skiing at Hallis Lake. The annual Pancake Breakfast was a huge hit with over 200 visitors taking advantage of free rentals, skiing, tours and lessons plus a bargain toonie breakfast. And the recent Hallis Lake Loppet participants raved about the day’s conditions like sunshine, perfect temperatures and freshly groomed trails making it a brilliant event for all ages. And the ski school has 260 students each booked for three sessions totalling 780 on snow days this season for elementary aged youth in and around the community. Still to come this season are the Elementary School Races, more evening (under the lights) and weekend lessons, social events at the lodge, guided ski tours Wednesday nights, contests like the 75k Ski Challenge and many more activities with a full rental shop to fit any size, from two year olds and up. And with a new grooming machine, the 75kms of trails including lit tracks and dog loops are keeping everyone smiling skiing in the winter wonderland at Hallis Lake. So if you haven’t given cross country skiing a chance yet, don’t let another beautiful snow day slip away and check out all of the amazing activities available on the club’s website at www.caribooski.ca.

n SPRING SLEDDING IN VALEMOUNT
Cont’d from page 15 Spring is one of our favourite times of year around here as it lets some of the adrenaline seeking riders cover more country, climb higher and experience thrills…and spills; while the more mild weather allows safer and more pleasurable experiences for families as they avoid the winter cold. The warm weather typically improved visibility allows newcomers to the sport to feel more at ease in the mountain environ-
ment and for the experienced rider looking to bring his family along, these same elements (warm temps and good views) allow for longer days on the hill with loved ones. Allan and Clemina are two favourite spring time riding destinations in the Valemount area; depending on how late you plan on coming, it would be a good idea to contact the VARDA office to discuss the conditions on the access. Clemina Creek has produced some amazing rides in early to mid June. Cont’d on page 18
