You are invited to join our locally owned – community focused organization.

Our 108-year-old weekly newspaper has a print run of 17,500 copies and our website last year averaged 1.4 million page views a month.

You would be relocating to Prince George which is an amazing community of approximately 78,000 people with a college cnc.bc.ca and university www.unbc.ca in the centre of British Columbia. Commuting time to work is a hectic five to fifteen minutes during rush hour. Your single-family home will cost you between $370,000 and $593,000, depending on which part of town you want to live in, with executive homes in the $800,000 to $950,000 range. If you enjoy outdoor activities, you can find what you’re looking for within 30 minutes of our city. The new owners, Cameron and Terresa, who purchased the business February 1st of this year have brought an energetic vision and new excitement to the business. We are looking for someone with a fresh, positive outlook on community news who wants to join our team and lead a small, but growing, newsroom.

Your responsibilities would include:

• Handling the day-to-day operations of the newsroom :

• Including scheduling of reporters/ freelancers, assigning stories/features, editing copy for proper length, CP Style, etc

• Managing content for the Prince George Citizen’s website, as well as our weekly print edition

• Recruitment and onboarding of newsroom hires

• Writing three editorials per week

• When required, turning around press releases or covering breaking news

• Handling submissions from regular columnists, as well as the public at large

• Assisting in the reviewing of online comments on our website

• Coordinating with other departments for specialty publications throughout the year

• Establishing relationships with community stakeholders

• Reviewing website analytics and introducing new procedures/practices to grow our digital audiences

Ideal experience and qualifications:

• A passion for local news and continuing our legacy of award-winning coverage

• Postsecondary degree or diploma in journalism (preferred, not necessarily required)

• Five plus years of newsroom experience, ideally at a daily or weekly newspaper

• Adobe Creative Suite experience, specifically Photoshop and InDesign

• Working knowledge of Google Analytics

• Comfortable working with social media
