Away in a manger, no crib for a bed, The little Lord Jesus laid down His sweet head. The stars in the bright sky looked down where He lay, The little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay. The cattle are lowing, the poor Baby awakes, But little Lord Jesus no crying He makes. I love Thee, Lord Jesus, look down from the sky, And stay by my cradle till morning is nigh. Be near me, Lord Jesus, I ask Thee to stay Close by me forever and love me I pray. Bless all the dear children in Thy tender care, And take us to heaven to live with Thee there.
I’ll have a blue Christmas without you; I’ll be so blue thinking about you. Decorations of red on a green Christmas tree Won’t mean a thing if you’re not here with me. I’ll have a blue Christmas, that’s certain; And when that blue heartache starts hurtin’; You’ll be do’in’ all right with your Christmas of white, But I’ll have a blue, blue Christmas.
Hark how the bells, sweet silver bells, all seem to say, throw cares away Christmas is here, bringing good cheer, to young and old, meek and the bold, ding dong ding that is their song with joyful ring all caroling one seems to hear words of good cheer from everywhere filling the air Oh how they pound,
raising the sound, o’er hill and dale, telling their tale, Gaily they ring while people sing songs of good cheer, Christmas is here, Merry, merry, merry, merry Christmas, Merry, merry, merry, merry Christmas, On on they send , on without end, their joyful tone to every home Dong Ding dong ding, dong Bong
Chestnuts roasting on an open fire Jack Frost nipping at your nose Yuletide carols being sung by a choir And folks dressed up like Eskimos Everybody knows a turkey and some mistletoe help to make the season bright Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow Will find it hard to sleep tonight They know that Santa’s on his way He’s loaded lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh And ev’ry mother’s Child is gonna spy to see if reindeer really know how to fly And so, I’m offering this simple phrase to kids from one to ninety-two Altho’ it’s been said many times Many ways; “Merry Christmas to you”. 2 — 2012 Festival of Trees & Christmas Song Book

Frosty the Snowman was a jolly happy soul, With a corn cob pipe and a button nose, And two eyes made out of coal. Frosty the Snowman is a fairy tale, they say, He was made of snow, but the children know, How he came to life one day. There must have been some magic, In that old silk hat they found, For when they placed it on his head, He began to dance around. Oh, Frosty the Snowman was alive as he could be, And the children say he could laugh and play, Just the same as you and me. Frosty the Snowman knew the sun was hot that day, So he said, “Let’s run and we’ll have some fun now before I melt away.”
Have yourself a merry little Christmas, Let your heart be light From now on, our troubles will be out of sight. Have yourself a merry little Christmas, Make the Yule-tide gay, From now on, our troubles will be miles away. Here we are as in olden days, happy golden days of yore. Faithful friends who are dear to us gather near to us once more. Through the years we all will be together If the Fates allow Hang a shining star upon the highest bough. And have yourself a merry little Christmas now.
Down to the village with a broomstick in his hand, Running here and there all around the square, sayin’, “Catch me if you can.” He led them down the streets of town right to the traffic cop, And he only paused a moment when he heard him holler “Stop!” For Frosty the Snowman had to hurry on his way, But he waved good-bye, sayin’, “Don’t you cry; I’ll be back again someday.” Thumpety thump thump, thumpety thump thump, Look at Frosty go; Thumpety thump thump, thumpety thump thump, Over the hills of snow.
Have a holly, jolly Christmas; It’s the best time of the year I don’t know if there’ll be snow but have a cup of cheer Have a holly, jolly Christmas; And when you walk down the street Say Hello to friends you know 6 — 2012 Festival of Trees & Christmas Song Book
and everyone you meet Oh ho the mistletoe hung where you can see; Somebody waits for you; Kiss her once for me Have a holly jolly Christmas and in case you didn’t hear Oh by golly have a holly jolly Christmas this year
Hark! The herald angels sing, “Glory to the newborn king; Peace on earth, and mercy mild; God and sinners reconciled,” Joyful all ye nations rise Join the triumph of the skies; With angelic hosts proclaim “Christ is born in Bethlehem!” Hark! The herald angels sing “Glory to the newborn King.” Christ, by highest heaven adored Christ, the everlasting Lord. Long desired behold Him come, Finding here His humble home. Veiled in flesh the Godhead see, Hail the incarnate Deity! Pleased as man with men to dwell, Jesus our Emmanuel. Hark! The herald angels sing, “Glory to the newborn King.” Hail the heav’n-born Prince of Peace! Hail the Son of righteousness! Light and life to all He brings, Risen with healing in His wings. Mild He lays His glory by, Born that man no more may die, Born to raise the sons of earth, Born to give them second birth. Hark! The herald angels sing, “Glory to the newborn King.” November 2012

Here comes Santa Claus! Here comes Santa Claus! Right down Santa Claus Lane! Vixen and Blitzen and all his reindeer are pulling on the rein. Bells are ringing, children singing, all is merry and bright. Hang your stockings and say your pray’rs, ‘Cause Santa Claus comes tonight. Here comes Santa Claus! Here comes Santa Claus! Right down Santa Claus Lane! He’s got a bag that is filled with toys for the boys and girls again. Hear those sleighbells jingle jangle, oh what a beautiful sight. Jump in bed, cover up your head, ‘Cause Santa Claus comes tonight. Here Comes Santa Claus! Here Comes Santa Claus! Right down Santa Claus Lane! He doesn’t care if you’re rich or poor for he loves you just the same. Santa knows that we’re God’s children, that makes ev’rything right. Fill your hearts with a Christmas cheer, ‘Cause Santa Claus comes tonight. Here Comes Santa Claus! Here Comes Santa Claus! Right down Santa Claus Lane! He’ll come around when the chimes ring out, then it’s Christmas morn again. Peace on earth will come to all if we just follow the light. Let’s give thanks to the Lord above,‘Cause Santa Claus comes tonight.
It came upon a midnight clear, That glorious song of old, From angels bending near the earth To touch their harps of gold: “Peace on the earth, good will to men, From heaven’s all-gracious King.” The world in solemn stillness lay To hear the angels sing. Still through the cloven skies they come With peaceful wings unfurled, And still their heavenly music floats O’er all the weary world; Above its sad and lowly plains They bend on hovering wing, And ever o’er its Babel-sounds The blessed angels sing. Yet with the woes of sin and strife The world has suffered long; Beneath the heavenly strain have rolled Two thousand years of wrong; 10 — 2012 Festival of Trees & Christmas Song Book
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas Ev’rywhere you go; Take a look in the five-and-ten, glistening once again With candy canes and silver lanes aglow. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, Toys in ev’ry store, But the prettiest sight to see is the holly that will be On your own front door. A pair of hopalong boots and a pistol that shoots Is the wish of Barney and Ben; Dolls that will talk and will go for a walk Is the hope of Janice and Jen; And Mom and Dad can hardly wait for school to start again. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas Ev’rywhere you go; There’s a tree in the Grand Hotel, one in the park as well, The sturdy kind that doesn’t mind the snow. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas; Soon the bells will start, And the thing that will make them ring is the carol that you sing Right within your heart.
And man, at war with man, hears not The tidings which they bring; O hush the noise, ye men of strife, And hear the angels sing! O ye, beneath life’s crushing load, Whose forms are bending low, Who toil along the climbing way With painful steps and slow, Look now! for glad and golden hours Come swiftly on the wing; O rest beside the weary road And hear the angels sing! For lo! the days are hastening on, By prophets seen of old, When with the ever-circling years Shall come the time foretold, When peace shall over all the earth Its ancient splendors fling, And the whole world give back the song Which now the angels sing. 2012 Festival of Trees & Christmas Song Book — 11
Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock Jingle bells swing and jingle bells ring Snowing and blowing up bushels of fun Now the jingle hop has begun.
Dashing thru’ the snow, In a one-horse open sleigh O’er the fields we go, Laughing all the way, Bells on bobtails ring, Making spirits bright, What fun it is to ride and sing A sleighing song tonight!
Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock Jingle bells chime in jingle bell time Dancing and prancing in Jingle Bell Square In the frosty air.
CHORUS Oh, Jingle bells, jingle bells, Jingle all the way! Oh! What fun it is to ride, In a one-horse open sleigh!
What a bright time, it’s the right time To rock the night away Jingle bell time is a swell time To go gliding in a one-horse sleigh
A day or two ago, I thought I’d take a ride, And soon Miss Fannie Bright was seated by my side. The horse was lean and lank, Misfortune seem’d his lot, He got into a drifted bank And then we got upsot!
Giddy-up jingle horse, pick up your feet Jingle around the clock Mix and a-mingle in the jingling beat That’s the jingle bell, That’s the jingle bell, That’s the jingle bell rock.
CHORUS Now the ground is white, Go it while you’re young, Take the girls tonight, And sing this sleighing song. Just get a bobtail nag, Two-forty for his speed, Then hitch him to an open sleigh and Crack! You’ll take the lead. CHORUS Oh, Jingle bells, jingle bells, Jingle all the way! Oh! What fun it is to ride, In a one-horse open sleigh!
Jolly old Saint Nicholas, Lean your ear this way! Don’t you tell a single soul What I’m going to say: Christmas Eve is coming soon; Now, you dear old man Whisper what you’ll bring to me; Tell me if you can. When the clock is striking twelve, When I’m fast asleep Down the chimney, broad and black, With your pack you’ll creep All the stockings you will find Hanging in a row Mine will be the shortest one, You’ll be sure to know Bobby wants a pair of skates, Suzy wants a sled Nellie wants a picture book, Yellow, blue, and red Now I think I’ll leave to you What to give the rest Choose for me, dear Santa Claus; You will know the best. 12 — 2012 Festival of Trees & Christmas Song Book

Joy to the world, the Lord is come Let earth receive her King Let every heart prepare Him room And heaven and nature sing And heaven and nature sing And heaven, and heave and nature sing Joy to the earth, the Savior reigns Let men their songs employ While fields and floods Rocks, hills and plains Repeat the sounding joy, Repeat the sounding joy Repeat, repeat the sounding joy No more let sins and sorrows grow Nor thorns infest the ground He comes to make His blessing flow Far as the curse is found Far as the curse is found Far as, far as the curse is found He rules the world with truth and grace And makes the nations prove The glories of His righteousness And wonders of His love And wonders of His love And wonders, of His love And wonders and wonders of his love
Oh the weather outside is frightful, But the fire is so delightful. And since we’ve no place to go, Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! It doesn’t show signs of stopping, And I brought some corn for popping. The lights are turned ‘way down low, Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! When we finally kiss goodnight, How I’ll hate going out in the storm! But if you’ll really hold me tight, All the way home I’ll be warm. The fire is slowly dying, And my dear, we’re still goodbyeing. But as long as you love me so, Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch. You really are a heel. You’re as cuddly as a cactus, You’re as charming as an eel. Mr. Grinch. You’re a bad banana With a greasy black peel. You’re a monster, Mr. Grinch. Your heart’s an empty hole. Your brain is full of spiders, You’ve got garlic in your soul. Mr. Grinch. I wouldn’t touch you, with a thirty-nine-and-a-half foot pole. You’re a vile one, Mr. Grinch. You have termites in your smile. You have all the tender sweetness Of a seasick crocodile. Mr. Grinch. Given the choice between the two of you I’d take the seasick crocodile. You’re a foul one, Mr. Grinch. You’re a nasty, wasty skunk. Your heart is full of unwashed socks Your soul is full of gunk. Mr. Grinch. The three words that best describe you, are, and I quote: “Stink. Stank. Stunk.” You’re a rotter, Mr. Grinch. You’re the king of sinful sots. Your heart’s a dead tomato splot With moldy purple spots, Mr. Grinch. Your soul is an apalling dump heap overflowing with the most disgraceful assortment of deplorable rubbish imaginable, Mangled up in tangled up knots. You nauseate me, Mr. Grinch. With a nauseaus super-naus. You’re a crooked jerky jockey And you drive a crooked horse.Mr. Grinch. You’re a three decker saurkraut and toadstool sandwich With arsenic sauce.

O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree, How faithful are thy branches! O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree, How faithful are thy branches! Green not alone in Summer time, But in the Winter’s frost and Rime; O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree, How faithful are thy branches! This not alone in Summer’s sheen, Its boughs are broad, its leaves are green; It blooms for us when wild winds blow And earth is white with feath’ry snow; A voice tells all its boughs among Of shepherd’s watch and angel’s song; Of holy Babe in manger low The story of long ago.

O come, all ye faithful, Joyful and triumphant, O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem; Come and behold Him Born the King of angels; O come, let us adore Him, O come, let us adore Him, O come, let us adore Him, Christ, the Lord. Sing, choirs of angels, Sing in exultation, Sing, all ye citizens Of heaven above; Glory to God,
O holy night, The stars are brightly shining; It is the night of Our dear Savior’s birth! Long lay the world In sin and error pining, Till He appeared And the soul felt its worth. A thrill of hope, The weary world rejoices, For yonder breaks A new and glorious morn. Fall on your knees, O hear the angel voices! O night divine, O night when Christ was born! O night divine, O night, O night divine! Led by the light of Faith Serenely beaming, With glowing hearts By His cradle we stand. So led by light of a star Sweetly gleaming, Here came the wise men From Orient land. The King of Kings lay thus In lowly manger, In all our trials Born to be our Friend! He knows our need,
Glory in the highest; O come, let us adore Him, O come, let us adore Him, O come, let us adore Him, Christ, the Lord. Yea, Lord, we greet Thee, Born this happy morning, Jesus, to Thee be All glory given; Son of the Father, Now in flesh appearing; O come, let us adore Him, O come, let us adore Him, O come, let us adore Him, Christ, the Lord.
To our weakness no stranger; Behold your King! Before the lowly bend! Behold your King! your King! Before Him bend. Truly He taught us To love one another; His law is love and His gospel is peace. Chains shall He break For the slave is our brother And in His name All oppression shall cease. Sweet hymns of joy in Grateful chorus raise we, Let all within us Praise His holy name! Christ is the Lord, Oh praise His name forever, His pow’r and glory evermore proclaim His pow’r and glory Evermore proclaim.

2012 Festival of Trees & Christmas Song Book — 21
O little town of Bethlehem, How still we see thee lie, Above the deep and dreamless sleep The silent stars go by; Yet in Thy dark street shineth The everlasting light. The hopes and fears of all the years, Are met in thee tonight.
How silently, how silently, The wond’rous gift is given; So God imparts to human hearts The blessing of His heaven. No ear may hear His coming, But in this world of sin, Where meek souls will receive Him still The dear Christ enters in.
For Christ is born of Mary, And gathered all above, While mortals sleep, the angels keep Their watch of wond’ring love. O morning stars, together Proclaim the holy birth, And praises sing to God the King, And peace to men on earth.
O holy Child of Bethlehem, Descend to us, we pray, Cast out our sins, and enter in, Be born in us today. We hear the Christmas angels The great glad tidings tell: O come to us, abide with us, Our Lord Emmanuel.
Rocking around the Christmas tree At the Christmas party hop Mistletoe hung where you can see Every couple tries to stop Rocking around the Christmas tree, Let the Christmas spirit ring Later we’ll have some pumpkin pie And we’ll do some caroling. You will get a sentimental Feeling when you hear Voices singing let’s be jolly, Deck the halls with boughs of holly Rocking around the Christmas tree, Have a happy holiday Everyone dancing merrily In the new old-fashioned way.
Rudolf, the red-nosed reindeer had a very shiny nose. And if you ever saw him, you would even say it glows.
Santa came to say: “Rudolf with your nose so bright, won’t you guide my sleigh tonight?”
All of the other reindeer used to laugh and call him names. They never let poor Rudolf play in any reindeer games.
Then all the reindeer loved him as they shouted out with glee: “Rudolf the red-nosed reindeer, you’ll go down in history!”
Then one foggy Christmas eve

CHILDREN’S WORKSHOP The Festival of Trees is for the child in all of us and this year we are once again excited to present this magical world for the children to participate in. Sponsored this year by Save On Foods, we have created a whimsical world for children to put their imagination and skills to work creating special Christmas crafts for family and friends. Pricing in this area is nominal, making it a destination for all the young visitors to the Festival. We invite you to visit the Save On Children’s Workshop – a series of individual kiosks that the children can visit to create that one of a kind gift for someone special. In addition to the traditional favourites, decorating a Gingerbread Cookie and a Little Tree, over the years we have added new crafts to our collection. This year we have brought back the little wreaths for the creative hands among us. Also available for custom designing will be a Santa Hat, a Christmas Stocking; a Wooden Candle Holder complete with candle and a few other surprises. Of course, we’ll still have the Free Area where children can colour a picture and decorate a bag to take home all their treasures from their visit to the Festival. We are very grateful to the incredible support of Save On Foods for their sponsorship and generous donations to this area to make the Children’s Workshop possible for the Festival of Trees.

You better watch out You better not cry Better not pout I’m telling you why Santa Claus is coming to town
Silent night, holy night All is calm, all is bright Round yon Virgin Mother and Child Holy Infant so tender and mild Sleep in heavenly peace Sleep in heavenly peace
He’s making a list, And checking it twice; Gonna find out Who’s naughty and nice. Santa Claus is coming to town
Silent night, holy night! Shepherds quake at the sight Glories stream from Heaven
He sees you when you’re sleeping He knows when you’re awake He knows if you’ve been bad or good So be good for goodness sake! O! You better watch out! You better not cry. Better not pout, I’m telling you why. Santa Claus is coming to town. Santa Claus is coming to town.

The first Noel the angel did say Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay In fields where they lay keeping their sheep On a cold winter’s night that was so deep Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel Born is the King of Israel They looked up and saw a star Shining in the East beyond them afar And to the earth it gave great life And so it continued both day and night And by the light of that same star Three wise men came from country far To seek the king was their intent

And to follow the star wherever it went This star drew nigh to the north-west O’er Bethlehem it took its rest And there it did both stop and stay Right over the place where Jesus lay Then entered in those wise men three Full reverently upon their knee And offered there in his presence Their gold and myrrh and frankincense Then let us all with one accord Sing praises to our Heavenly Lord That hath made Heaven and earth of nought And with His blood mankind hath bought
On the seventh day of Christmas My true love sent to me: Seven swans a swimming, Six geese a laying, Five golden rings, Four calling birds, Three French Hens, Two turtle doves And a Partridge in a pear tree. 2012 Festival of Trees & Christmas Song Book — 29
Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse; The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there; The children were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads; And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap, Had just settled down for a long winter’s nap, When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter. Away to the window I flew like a flash, Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash. The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below, When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer, With a little old driver, so lively and quick, I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick. More rapid than eagles his coursers they came, And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;
“Now! Dasher, now! Dancer, now! Prancer, and Vixen! On! Comet, on! Cupid, on! Dunder and Blixem! To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall! Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!” As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly, When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky, So up to the house-top the coursers they flew, With the sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas too. And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof The prancing and pawing of each little hoof. As I drew in my hand, and was turning around, Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound. He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot, And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot; A bundle of toys he had flung on his back, And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack. His eyes -- how they twinkled! his dimples how merry! His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry! His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow, And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow; The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth, And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath; He had a broad face and a little round belly, That shook, when he laughed like a bowlful of jelly. He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf, And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself; A wink of his eye and a twist of his head, Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread; He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work, And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk, And laying his finger aside of his nose, And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose; He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle, And away they all flew like the down of a thistle. But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight, “Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!”
Red Hat Ladies
Luncheon
Working together with the local chapters of the Red Hat Ladies Society, the last two years we were able to put together a special luncheon for this group. We are excited to host them again this year! Clubs from all over Northern British Columbia have been invited, and on Monday, November 26th the Civic Centre will be filled with the beautiful reds and purples that make this group so recognizable. In addition to their brightly coloured hats and gowns, their laughter and enthusiasm guarantee to make their visit to the Festival a fantastic addition to the day. Restricted to members of this elite group of ladies, a special menu has been put together with programming and entertainment just for them. In our efforts to make the Festival of Trees memorable and a perfect gathering place for groups, please consider us when planning your Christmas parties next year – we are always open to new ideas, and want to welcome everyone to experience this annual event with us. Call the office at 250-565-2515 if you are interested in planning your party at the Festival for 2012.

2012 Festival of Trees and Christmas Song Book — 33
We three kings of orient are Bearing gifts we traverse afar Field and fountain, moor and mountain Following yonder star Star of wonder, star of night Star of royal beauty bright Westward leading, still proceeding Guide us to Thy perfect light Born a King on Bethlehem’s plain Gold I bring to crown Him again King for ever, ceasing never Over us all to reign Frankincense to offer have I Incense owns a Deity nigh Prayer and praising, all men raising Worship Him, God most high Myrrh is mine, its bitter perfume Breathes a life of gathering gloom Sorrowing, sighing, bleeding, dying Sealed in the stone-cold tomb Glorious now behold Him arise King and God and sacrifice Alleluia, Alleluia Earth to the heavens replies
I’m dreaming of a white Christmas Just like the ones I used to know Where the treetops glisten, and children listen To hear sleigh bells in the snow I’m dreaming of a white Christmas With every Christmas card I write May your days be merry and bright And may all your Christmases be white I’m dreaming of a white Christmas With every Christmas card I write May your days be merry and bright And may all your Christmases be white
Sleigh bells ring, are you listening, In the lane, snow is glistening A beautiful sight, We’re happy tonight. Walking in a winter wonderland. Gone away is the bluebird, Here to stay is a new bird He sings a love song, As we go along, Walking in a winter wonderland. In the meadow we can build a snowman, Then pretend that he is Parson Brown He’ll say: Are you married? We’ll say: No man, But you can do the job When you’re in town. Later on, we’ll conspire, As we dream by the fire To face unafraid, The plans that we’ve made, Walking in a winter wonderland. In the meadow we can build a snowman, And pretend that he’s a circus clown We’ll have lots of fun with mister snowman, Until the other kids knock him down. When it snows, ain’t it thrilling, Though your nose gets a chilling We’ll frolic and play, the Eskimo way, Walking in a winter wonderland.
