CONCERT Dynamic
David Wright
Superiors
In the early 1970’s, The Dynamic Superiors, a Washington, D.C. quintet, signed with Motown and found great success on the Soul Charts as one of Motown’s most unique groups. After signing with Motown, they moved to Detroit and were immediately assigned to the renowned Ashford and Simpson song writing duo, who wrote most of their material. This proved to be a winning combination which produced several hits including” Shoe, Shoe Shine” and “Leave It Alone”, both of which made the Top 20 on R&B Charts. After leaving Motown in 1976, the group returned to Washington, D.C. and continues to flourish nationally and abroad. Unfortunately, the untimely death of lead singer, Tony Washington, caused a rift in the group and they drifted their separate ways, performing individually until 1979. The Dynamic Superiors got back together in 2005. The new look and rich harmonic sound of The Dynamic Superiors today is more than refreshing. Fans throughout the country have restored their appreciation of these voices as they tour the east coast concert circuit. After three decades and still going strong, the vibrant sound of The Dynamic Superiors is indeed a must see and must feel experience for “old school” music lovers everywhere.

MUSICAL PLAY
Missoula Children’s Theatre’s Alice in Wonderland
The Missoula Children’s Theatre presents Alice in Wonderland, an original adaptation based on Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. The story begins with Alice and her older sister Margaret reading together. Margaret becomes frustrated as Alice is curious about absolutely everything. Suddenly, a White Rabbit appears from nowhere. After a quick and nonsensical conversation, Alice follows the rabbit to a strange and wonderful place. In the course of her adventures, Alice meets a band of Flowers, the King and Queen of Hearts, the Knave and the rest of the suit of Cards, a giant Caterpillar, a Fish, a Frog, the Duchess, the Cook, the Cheshire Cat, the Gryphon, the Mock Turtle, a group of singing Lobsters, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, the March Hare, the Mad Hatter, the Dormouse and Humpty Dumpty. Through it all, Alice grows “curiouser and curiouser” as to where she is and even who she is. In the end, the answers she seeks are unimportant. Wonderland is all nonsense, anyway. As the White Rabbit explains, “Nonsense is fun!”

Secret Society
Formed in 2008, Secret Society is the brainchild of Washington-area musician Bryan Mills and was created to bring the “Live Band” sound back to today’s heavily computerized music market. The “Society” is that breath of fresh air that most aficionados have been searching for. The repertoire is deep and full of history, tradition, and diversity. The combination of talent, experience, and a host of influences stemming from the seeds of John Coltrane, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, The Police, Rick James, and a host of others gives this band their own unique sound and identity. To assign a genre-style to this group would be difficult considering the intermixture of music displayed. This group likes to use the simplistic description “Feel Good Music” to define exactly what it is that they offer. In 2012, Secret Society was nominated for a WAMMIE by the Washington Area Music Awards (WAMA) for Best Urban Contemporary Duo/Group. The band has been featured in several magazines, including Prince George’s Suite and Magazine 33 Virginia, as “one of the hottest bands in the region!”

AFTERNOON TEA
David Wright and The Wright Touch
In the 1950s when the big band era faded and a smooth swing rhythm was replaced by the back beat, the American Song Book became the American Soul Book. David Wright (sax and vocals) with his quartet of piano, string bass, and drums, will perform a variety of songs from the rock n’ roll, Motown, and beyond. Saturating the radio airwaves these songs became the foundation of popular music, which we now refer to as Classic Rock. David will program his favorites such as “Run Around Sue,” My Girl,” “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg,” Brown Eyed Girl,” “I Only Have Eyes For You,” and more. Come join us take a stroll down memory lane together.
