Trips & Excursions All aboard! Pack your suitcase and join us for our Trips and Excursions program which now has three pick-up sites to allow participation countywide: College Park Airport, Lake Arbor Community Center and Southern Regional Technology and Recreation Complex. (Please check the trips to see where they depart.) For the spring, we are hosting day trips only. Short, overnight trips will return in the near future.
How do I register for a trip? To register for a trip, you must have a PARKS DIRECT account established. Spring Doo Wop Cavalcade and Millers Smorgasbord If you love Doo Wop like it used to be, you won’t want to miss the extravaganza of stars scheduled to appear in the Spring Doo Wop Cavalcade. Join us as we listen to the sounds of Lou Christie, The Tymes, Sonny Turner, former lead singer of The Platters, 1910 Fruit Gum Company, Johnny Farina of Santo & Johnny, and Super Girl Group starring lead singers of The Raindrops, The Cookies, The Exciters, The Jaynetts, and Reparata & The Del Rons. Philadelphia Flower Show The 2018 Pennsylvania Horticulture Society’s “The Wonders of Water” will celebrate the ways in which water and plants combine to provide universal meaning to our lives. “Grow with the Flow” at a lush artful hydroponic wall. Marvel at the secrets of the plant world, “Frozen in Time”. Delight in fanciful fountains that capture the imagination and invite visitors to see water in a whole new “Light”. The 2018 Philadelphia Flower Show will be a playground teeming with lush landscapes, do-it-yourself ideas and hands-on experiences that will use water as a unifying theme to explore new thinking around gardening. Before heading to the flower show, enjoy a family-style lunch at Maggiano’s Little Italy. On the table will be: appetizers and an Italian tossed salad, followed by mushroom Ravioli al Forno, sautéed vegetables, Chicken Parmesan, and Chicken Marsala. Finish the lunch with Chocolate Zuccotto Cake and New York Style Cheesecake. Arena Stage: “Two Trains Running” Join us for an afternoon delight at Arena Stage to see “Two Trains Running”. It’s 1969 and the civil rights movement is sending tremors through Pittsburgh’s Hill District. At the center of the community is Memphis Lee’s Diner, slated to be demolished – a casualty of the city’s renovation project. Lititz and the Wolf Sanctuary of PA Join us as we travel to a picture perfect example of small town America. Start the day with a tour of the Wolf Sanctuary of PA and meet the wolves of Speedwell. Historic Richmond, VA
Step back in history and explore the rich culture of Richmond, Virginia. We start the day with a RVA Trolley Tour of the historical locations. This 2-hour tour will travel through a rich narrative of 400 years of history in one of the most fascinating and oldest cities in America. See the sights and learn about Richmond’s landmarks, riverfront, architecture, and history. With lunch time approaching we will ease on over to the Speakeasy Restaurant next to the Hippodrome Theater. This will be a southern-style meal that will fill you up. To work off the lunch we will be walking to the Maggie L. Walker House for a historical tour and talk. Then, we’ll walk to the Black History Museum of Richmond and complete our history tour. On our travels home we will stop in Fredericksburg for dinner at Brocks Riverside Grill.
