Welcome to the New School Year! My name is Dr. Christopher Granger. My family and I are so pleased to have been given the opportunity to join this tremendous community and to serve as superintendent of the Blaine School District. I would like to thank Dr. Spanjer for his 36 years of service to public education, and the last 13 years of service to the Blaine community as superintendent. I was blessed by the opportunity to meet many of you through the search process, and we look forward to continuing to meet the students, parents, staff, and community members in our district. We are all

committed to partnering with families and community members to continually improve our schools, and we hope that you will participate in upcoming outreach events to build meaningful relationships and communication with all stakeholders. It has been an eventful summer around the Blaine School District. With the completion of Phase III of the Blaine High School project, staff and students

Blaine Middle School

Blaine High School We are excited to get started on the 20192020 school year. We will move into Phase III of the new high school! Thank you for you support and patience during these last four years of construction and planning. What an exciting time to be a Borderite! There are a few things we will never change, such as our belief and our mission that: WE ARE BLAINE HIGH SCHOOL We foster RESILIENCE We model RESPECT

We practice RESPONSIBILITY We demonstrate COMPASSION As our students move through their final years in the Blaine School District, we want them to be ready for the world they are about to enter. Similarly important are the attitudes and behavioral attributes that students who succeed in school must demonstrate. Among these are study skills, time management, awareness of one’s performance, persistence and the ability to utilize collaborative groups of study and struc-

ture. These are specific skills and more general attitudes, but all of them require high degrees of self-awareness and intentionality on the part of the students as they are in high school and in preparation for life and education thereafter. As they graduate they will be college or career prepared with many opportunities for success in their futures. Please stop by anytime you are on campus

and introduce yourself, as Mr. Wayne Vezzetti the vice principal and myself look forward to meeting you and working with your children in the coming school year.

You’re off to great places. Make this school year special!

This year, our staff will continue to expand effective teaching practices through differentiated instruction or knowing our learners. Knowing our students helps us “meet them where they are at as learners” and cultivates social, emotional and academic learning that is essential for each individual child to reach their unlimited potential in life. We would like to invite all Blaine Elementary families to participate in our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). This leadership group actively supports our school by funding educational enrichment opportunities and coordinating community events. I would also like to encourage Blaine community members to volunteer or participate in our school events and celebrations. Public schools are about coming together as a community to serve children and we can all contribute to a quality educa-

tional experience for our kids. You can learn more about our school by visiting the Blaine School District website, contacting our office or attending school events. School starts Wednesday, August 28. Doors open at 7:45 a.m. for students having breakfast in our cafeteria (entering through cafeteria doors in the back of the school). All other students may enter school at 8:00 a.m. Blaine Elementary staff are excited to start the 2019-20 school year! We welcome visits or calls from our families or community members. On behalf of our staff, welcome to the 2019-20 school year!

Have a Great Year!

We are so excited to welcome our returning students along with those new to our school and the Blaine School District. We have spent this week in a variety of trainings, including literacy and social emotion learning (SEL), revisiting our collective vision, maintaining high standards and consistent expectations to develop a solid academic foundation as well as being self managers and having mutual respect for all. The Blaine Primary School staff believes that our job is to provide an atmosphere that allows children to develop positive attitudes toward learning, themselves and each other. We believe that with a common ground of clearly understood expectations we will be able to provide the best possible educational experiences for every student. All families are encouraged to get involved in their children’s education. This level of involvement may vary as we realize that there are many demands on a parent’s time. There are a variety of ways you can contribute to your child’s progress in school:

Communicate with your child’s teacher • often. • Spend some time in the classroom or become involved in school activities. • Help your child understand the impor- tance of school learning and learning in everyday life. • Be at school on time and do not miss school unless you are ill. • Provide a quiet area for homework assignments. These points will help your child to grow in self-confidence, social skills and to ensure a successful time while in primary school. We wish everyone success during this important time in your children’s lives. We have new staff joining us this year, please welcome Carella Clark, life skills teacher, Carissa Scott, special education, and Bridget Carlson, speech. We have just finished the third year of our “Bright K” summer school, which supports our incoming kindergarten students. We welcomed 45 pre-K kiddos who spent four weeks

participating in school routines, social skills, and math and literacy activities. We are so excited to have this program, supporting our students. Blaine Primary School has a wonderful Parent Teacher Organization that supports many activities throughout the school year. We would like to invite anyone interested in helping with school activities during the day and after school to please join our first PTO meeting of the year on Wednesday, September 11 at 6:15 p.m. in the Primary School library. There will be childcare available in the multi-purpose room and pizza for dinner. Blaine Primary School invites you to come visit us and volunteer whenever possible as it takes all of us to support our children. If you are interested in volunteering this school year, please stop by the office and pick up a volunteer packet. We truly appreciate parent/ community volunteers. We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday, August 28! If you have any questions please feel free to contact us at 360-332-1300.
