Planning for Sustainable Growth: 22% of MCAD positions restructured over last 3 years to allow for internal promotion and institutionalizing succession planning in all 4 delivery areas

75% of MCAD delivery areas have accelerated public-private relationships to support program growth, expansion and even conservation of assets

100% staff from all 4 delivery areas now meeting quarterly to coordinate efforts, celebrate successes and ensure alignment to Council’s strategic plan for first time in department’s history


Higher Standards:

Increased quality drives significant private sector support with a Hunt Family Foundation Challenge Grant

Reaccreditation by the American Association of Museums

Increased safeguards in Public Art Program to ensure contract compliance at all levels and quality control


Better Systems:

Developed better tracking for teaching artist Services to provide more equity across Council Districts

Moved funding process fully online in response to customer feedback

All three museums’ collection policies updated for first time in over 15 years


Supporting Local:

51 Public Art Projects completed in 11 years, with 45% of major commissions going to local artists

Created annual opportunity showcase for local artists with information on grants, commissions, paid gigs and services available from MCAD

El Paso is the only city in Texas that grants funding directly to local artists for creation of new work.


Trending Upward:

Over 10 million touches to the Digital Wall

Chalk the Block now the region’s largest arts festival, with attendance growing 740% in 10 years

In 6 years, Downtown Art & Farmers Market has increased annual attendance 1567%



Northeast Efforts:

Attendance increased of 12% last 2 years

Poppies Festival augmented by Downtown Art & Farmers Market collaboration

Music Under the Stars split between two sites: Chamizal & Cohen Stadium


Looking Ahead:

Developing pilot Film Incubator Program

European Galleries being refreshed and recontextualized with funding provided by Kress Foundation

Mural Program in collaboration with Streets And Maintenance Department
