ORSON WELLES
JOAN MIRÓ
LEONARDO DA VINCI
A legendary figure, the living myth of the creative artist, Orson Welles was the man who reinvented the language of theatre and cinema at the age of 24. He was a man of a thousand faces, continually appearing in new forms, revealing endlessly unseen facets. He was a moralist, a humanist, a Don Juan, a glutton, an American and a homeless exile, an actor, a filmmaker, a comedian, a poet, and an eternal child prodigy seeking to return to a state of grace. A child leading us into a maze of mirrors reflecting his talents, that he spins and twists as he pleases, never fully revealing what lies behind his imposing figure. This film is a journey into the heart of the man behind the legend..
Thirty years after his death, Joan Miró has become an iconic figure in the art world. The more time passes, the more his work becomes universal, going beyond borders and genres. Thanks to the exceptional presence of Joan Punyet Miró, the artist’s grandson and administrator, as well as previously unseen archives and a privileged access to his work and his studio, we shall discover some of the painter’s less familiar facets: the private Miró, who could «by day be a treasure, and by night, a monster»; Miró the provocateur, as well as the Miró who was sensitive to the distress of his compatriots. We shall also evoke the pressures involved in handling such an immense painter’s heritage, a burden which falls on a single descendant, and the tragic fate of most of the members of his family.
On the occasion of the 500th anniversary of his death, this documentary propose to apprehend Leonardo’s art jointly of his technical and scientific research. The engineer and man of science cannot be fully appreciated without taking into account the fact he was first and foremost an artist with an incredible sense of observation and drawing. To decipher the da Vinci mystery, we will embark upon a lengthy journey in da Vinci’s footsteps from the village where he was born to Clos Lucé, his last home, passing through the places he frequented in Florence, Milan… Leonardo’s own writings, drawings, sketches, paintings will answer the various questions raised. We will reveal his vision and perspective, as his own eye guides us, thanks to astonishing visual effects matching those of the best sci-fi films.

PHOTO 12X26’ | EN/FR | HD | 2012 Every snapshot is an enigma, the capture of an instant that remains frozen in time. But what happened before? and after? Or just outside of frame? The sublime series now retraces the adventure of this art form, from its beginnings to the present, revealing the hidden stories and trade secrets concealed in a series of photographs. Every photograph is an enigma. A moment locked into a rectangle. We will never know what happened just before it was taken, or just next to it. What had to be moved, adjusted, waited for or provoked for all the elements to suddenly come together in the frame and produce an image that once seen, is never forgotten? The collection invites viewers to discover from the inside «how it’s done», and imagine themselves as actors in the complex game that is played out between photography and the real. INGMAR BERGMAN BEHIND THE MASK 52’ | EN/FR | 4K/HD | 2018
The only director to have been awarded the Palme des Palmes at Cannes, Ingmar Bergman can be seen as the uncontested master of “cinéma d’auteur”. Tarantino, Woody Allen or Michael Haneke regard the director as the absolute film-maker, whose life and work have no equivalent. Ten years after his death, as we prepare to celebrate the centenary of his birth, this film recounts a single year in Bergman’s life. A pivotal year, a crazy year, in which he would die, and then be reborn thanks to his passion for cinema, and one film: Persona. Director(s): Maria Sjöberg Producer(s): Camera lucida productions

THE HIDDEN LIVES OF WORKS OF ART 52’ | EN/FR | HD | 2013 As part of a Louvre Museum initiative, the worlds’ leading experts on Rembrandt, Leonardo da Vinci, Watteau, Raphael and Poussin joined forces to rediscover and study the masters’ works that were de-hung and de-framed for the occasion. The masterpieces at the Louvre are real survivors! Throughout the centuries, they have managed to escape pillaging, fire, woodworm, pigment degradation, changing tastes, overpaints, heavy-handed restorations, mutilation by saw, attacks, ageing and oblivion. Some works have lived a clandestine life, under false identity, others, believed to be lost, have suddenly reappeared centuries later. An exceptional event, even for experts. In these collective investigations, each participant tries to shed light on the enigmas surrounding the works. A unique encounter between man and works of art. HISTORY
SLAVERY ROUTES 4x52’ | EN/FR | HD/4K | 2018 This is the story of a world whose territories and own frontiers were built by the slave trade. A world where violence, subjugation and profit imposed their routes. The history of slavery did not begin in the cotton fields. It is a much older tragedy, that has been going on since the dawn of humanity. From the VIIth century on, and for over 1,200 years, Africa was the epicenter of a gigantic traffic of human beings traversing the entire globe. Nubian, Fulani, Mandinka, Songhai, Susu, Akan, Yoruba, Igbo, Kongo, Yao, Somali… Over 20 million Africans were deported, sold and enslaved. This criminal system thrived, laying the foundations of empires around the world. Its scale was such that for a long time, it has been impossible to relate it comprehensively. And yet, it raises a fundamental question: how did Africa end up at the heart of the slavery routes? Director(s): Daniel Cattier, Juan Gélas, Fanny Glissant Producer(s): CPB Films
MAGELLAN’S
EXTRAORDINARY ODYSSEY 4x52’ | EN/FR | HD | 2021 It is astonishing to see to what extent Magellan’s name is famous when this Portuguese captain’s real accomplishment was forgotten by most. Quite simply, in 1519, Fernando Magellan put together a crazy expedition that was to take 237 men to the indies via the western route. In doing so, Magellan wished to bring to life Christopher Columbus’ dreams. He threw himself headlong into this project concerning a land of which the exact dimensions were unknown, and with the wind as his sole driving power, along dangerous and unknown coastlines, accompanied by a wary Spanish crew, in latitudes where no boat had ever sailed before. PARIS 1900, THE CITY OF LIGHTS 52’ | EN/FR | 4K/HD | 2019 In 1900, the eyes of the whole world were on Paris. Joy and optimism were at a peak in the elegant City of Light. The Exposition Universelle, which opened in April 1900, was an enormous celebration of French success. It welcomed 51 million visitors, half of whom were foreigners. Significant investments had been made to ensure that the Exposition would be a truly extraordinary event. Two splendid exhibition halls, the Petit and Grand Palais, were built for the occasion, along with three railroad stations: Gare d’Orsay, Gare de Lyon, and Gare des Invalides. Paris became a showcase city, displaying the latest technical and scientific inventions, and also boasting avant-garde art galleries, lively cabarets, the ultimate in high fashion, and the Parisiennes. The myth of “La Belle Epoque” reigned supreme. Director(s): Hugues Nancy Producer(s): CPB Films
JEWS AND MUSLIMS SO FAR, SO CLOSED 4X52’ | EN/FR | HD | 2013
In peoples minds, Jews and Muslims have become the archetype of sworn enemies, of polarized identities leading to an endless conflict. This vision made of misunderstandings and omissions leads to growing hatred on both sides. And yet, if you take a close look at history, you will find that the tension is quite recent, starting merely 150 years ago. From Andalusia to the Ottoman Empire, from Bagdad, Cairo and Djerba, up to Cordoba and Istanbul, Palestine and Israel, the series will delve into 1400 years of this unique relationship, starting with the birth of the Muslim Empire and ending today with the Jewish and Muslim’ diasporas scattered throughout the world. HISTORY
FRANCE AND AFRICA
THE TOUR
NUREMBERG
BOMBING WAR
Exactly 24 African countries are part of «Françafrique», they nearly all gained independence in 1960 when General De Gaulle was returned to power and gave it to them. This system is essentially based on putting friendly black leaders into power, with donations of colossal amounts of money ensuring their obedience to France’s interests. «Françafrique» is a macabre thriller that has been going on for 50 years. It’s a story of fighting for influence, of corruption, of dictators supported and progressive leaders murdered, the massacre of populations tolerated if not encouraged, smuggling of weapons, of secret services, and spectacular military operations.
“The Tour - The Legend of the Race” sheds a new light on the last 100 years of the Tour de France, now considered one of the w orld’s most popular sporting events. The Tour has lived through a century of rich history, with ups and downs, triumphs and scandals, continually evolving with the times. Throughout it all one key characteristic has remained the incredible power of identification the public has with the Tour cyclists, mythical figures that seem accessible and inaccessible at the same time. In order to reflect this human dimension of the Tour, the film tells the story through a selection of its emblematic heroes. Emblematic of the Tour, but also emblematic of an era, embodying in the film their generation: Coppi, Bobet, Anquetil, Poulidor, Merckx, Hinault, Indurain, Armstrong...
It was one of the biggest trials of the 20th century. The one that opened the way for the creation of an international justice system. It was the first trial to be filmed, and yet very few people have ever seen the nearly 25 hours of original footage. For the very first time, a documentary takes viewers inside the courtroom, via the original trial footage filmed by John Ford´s crew. Most of it has never before been broadcast; all of it has been fully restored. This gripping faceoff with Nazi war criminals lets viewers discover the most powerful moments in this historic trial. It includes interviews with some of the surviving participants, who put the events and their stakes into perspective.
The film takes us around the entire world, as no region was spared : the free countries, such as those occupied by Axis forces, as well as Italy, Germany and Japan. Seen from the skies, the war is revealed in a new light. It began in 1937 when Guernica and the Chinese cities of Chongqing and Shanghai were devastated by bombs and ended in August 1945 when the Americans dropped the first atomic on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It is not a tale of invasion and great battles, but an account of a clearly-defined programme of destruction, an incendiary science that was continually re-invented and perfected through the global conflict. It is this little-known war that we shall recount.

THE TECHNLOGICAL CHALLENGE 90’/52’ | EN/FR | 4K/HD | 2018 The sea level in Venice has increased drastically in the last century or so, threatening the very existence of the city. Global warming and the harmful effects of tourism have amplified the phenomenon of acqua alta (sudden rise in sea level), rendering the traditional responses of inhabitants obsolete. It is urgent to act today. Projects conceived in laboratories across the globe are joining forces to save the city. These include Ramses, a 3D modelization of the lagoon produced using lasers, which analyzes rises in water level; and MOSE, a series of movable dams costing over 4 billion euros, intended to block the sea in case of acqua alta. The film will take us on this extraordinary journey, the technological and scientific struggle for the survival of Venice, a survival that has been in doubt from its very construction. BARBARA HANNIGAN & LUDWIG ORCHESTRA FIRST REHEARSALS 40’ | FRENCH /ENGLISH | HD | 2017
Barbara Hannigan’s reputation as a singer is not to be made. For several years already her vocal mastery and her stage presence have brought her applause on the stages of the entire world. However, the Canadian singer has not finished surprising us, as she recently started cultivating a new talent: that of conducting the orchestra. It is this other facet of Barbara Hannigan which has interested Mathieu Amalric. With curiosity and benevolence the actor and director has thus followed her for three days in Amsterdam. At the heart of this portrait are the rehearsals and exchanges of the conductor and the Ludwig ensemble, while preparing the recording of the “Lulu Suite” by Alban Berg for the album “Crazy Girl Crazy”, to be published on September 22 on the label Alpha Classics. Thanks to this film portrait, for a few minutes we become witnesses to the life of an orchestra. It is also the opportunity to discover the patient work necessary to achieve harmony. SEIJI OZAWA
CLAUDIO MONTEVERDI
MENAHEM PRESSLER
Now in his eighties, Seiji Ozawa is one of the last living legends of a former golden era of “star” conductors. A pupil of Leonard Bernstein and Herbert von Karajan, he was the first Asian to conduct a major Western orchestra, the prestigious Boston Symphony Orchestra, under his baton for 30 years. He shaped the Boston Orchestra into one of North America’s most important ensembles. He opened up the highly select Tanglewood Music Festival to a wider audience, and gave his name to the magical Seiji Ozawa Hall – a shed-like building where the audience can attend a concert under the stars. Maestro Ozawa campaigns tirelessly for “fine sound”, not for himself but as part of his constant concern to share.
On February 24, 1607, in the hall of mirrors of the palace of the Duke of Mantua, an art form which remains very much alive to this day was invented and which for some is considered to be the most complete form of art: the Opera. The craftsman of this innovation was the court composer, Claudio Monteverdi, whose “Orfeo” was the first masterpiece of its genre. Few are the players in history gone by whose lives have been as well documented as that of Monteverdi. What remains of him for us are papers, places and, above all, his music. In a continuous dialog between the music being played by musicians of today and the illustrated narrative of the composer’s life, the film retraces the journey of a man who redefined forever our representations of reality.
Menahem means consolation in hebrew. As a child he got over the violence of anti-Semitism taking refuge into the music. At 85 years old, Menahem Pressler is still finding consolation during his concerts, master classes, rehearsals. Whatever may be the city he goes to, the only thing he ever sees are the concert hall, the airport, the hotel. Constantly seeking for a piano to work on, he feels like wasting his time as soon as he moves away from it. Just like in his childhood, music keeps beeing a refuge. Music has gotten him over every pain, helped him to survive and to give some comfort in turn. He is one of the last pianists of the fabulous Mitteleuropa music scene of the 50’s and 60’s, in the United States.

THEATRE & DANCE
MOURAD MERZOUKI
MAGUY MARIN
TWENTY THOUSAND LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA
THE BOORS BY CARLO GOLDONI
Hip-hop dance would never have reached the great international stages without Mourad Merzouki. A recognised choreographer, his shows are now touring worldwide, with more than 2800 performances in 58 countries. The film offers an immersion into the heart of his next creation: Vertikal. In the middle of his troupe of dancers and close to Mourad, we participate in the creative process backstage, until the first performance – between doubt and creative impulse. With an objective: to defy gravity and create a visual vertigo. Through Mourad’s confidences and moments stolen from his busy life, we discover his influences, his artistic career and his universe. Thus emerges the portrait of one of the most promising choreographers of his generation.
Maguy Marin, woman of conviction, free and passionate, is a choregrapher who dares express with force and clarity, with outrageousness ans incitement sometimes, in order for her audience to understand her clearly.

THE HIDDEN DANCE 90’ | FRENCH/ENGLISH | HD | 2009
«Maguy Marin, the hidden dance» leads us into her world. Trough her latest five plays : Umwelt, Ha Ha!, Ca quand même, Turba and Grosse Fugue (four of which created since she moved into the center of Rilleux la Pape housing projects, in Lyon’s suburbs), we can see how she moves forward and how she resists, how her work is being crossed over by the world surrounding it, in a never-ending interior/exterior movement. In a room, two combatants face off. You’re in between them. Step up to meet them, listen while they explain what drove them to fight, to defend their land, their city, their family… all in the name of reconciliation. The Enemy presents face-to-face confrontations exemplifying three long-standing conflict zones. Once immersed, visitors meet and listen fighters reflect on theirexperiences and perspectives of war, which allow visitors to better understand their motivations and humanity. APPLICATION FOR MOBILE DEVICES & TABLETS The Enemy also includes an augmented reality (AR) application for mobile devices and tablets (free download), which allows users, in their home surroundings, to encounter the combatants. The app has been downloaded in over 103 countries.
PROMOTING PEACE The Enemy provides an innovative and inclusive response by making it possible for one to get close and personal with these men who spend every day fighting. With no value judgments, no reconsideration, rather with humanity.

In 1883 painter Claude Monet first rented a house in the French town of Giverny. After purchasing the property and adjoining land, the artist transformed an existing small pond into a water garden with water lilies and a Japanesestyle bridge from which he could observe the water and the flowers. From 1899 to 1926, Monet painted more than 250 scenes devoted to the water lily theme, which became what he himself called “an obsession.”
