FX medicine portal A new online gateway to “evidence-based complementary and integrative medicine” has launched, with aspirations to provide a trusted reference library for Australian health professionals. Dubbed FX Medicine, the portal has been “developed to provide consumers and practitioners alike with a trusted source of integrative medicine research and practical information,” according to the company’s Head of Education, Danny Urbinder. He said many people turn to the internet for health information but the plethora of inaccuracies make it difficult to know what to believe. “All information presented on FX Medicine is written and researched by a team of qualified health professionals,” he said, with the site also overseen by a scientific advisory board made up of experts including Australia’s Dr Mark Donohoe, integrative medicine doctor and nutritional biochemist Dr Robert Buist. Willach expands operations Pharmacy dispensary automation specialist Willach has more than doubled the size of its Melbourne offices, opening the doors of a new $500,000 training facility in Burwood last month. The move reflects the company’s strong confidence in the Australian market, with Willach operating locally for a decade now.

NPS cannabis update NPS MedicineWise has today published the latest edition of Australian Prescriber, including an article on the clinical applications and challenges of introducing medicinal cannabis into Australia. Written by the University of Sydney’s Dr Bridin Murnion, the article describes the therapeutic use of cannabinoids, as well as the ongoing debate and evolving legislative landscape. “If medicinal cannabis is to be introduced it should be supported with prescriber and consumer education, prescriber peer review, a robust authority process and pharmacovigilance for adverse events,” Murnion said. John Koot, md of Willach Australia, said “this facility is a real point of difference for us and a demonstration of our commitment to being around for the long term and providing our customers with the best ongoing support”. The purpose-built training facility will see Willach instruct new and existing clients about improving their dispensary workflows, as well as handling the change management process. It houses complete automated, non-automated and hospital dispensary set-ups along with a full design studio. The expanded facility has seen Willach also increase its local stock holding, with a full range of parts and accessories, shelving and drawer systems and CONSIS robots - meaning the company is able to supply new customers with systems almost immediately. Willach has now installed more than 800 automated and nonautomated solutions in Australia.

Pharmacies nail AEs Community pharmacies have been significant contributors to reports of adverse events (AEs) according to a presentation from the Therapeutic goods Administration to the ARCS (formerly named the Association of Regulatory and Clinical Scientists) Pharmacovigilance Interest Area meeting in November. The number of adverse events reported by community pharmacists exceeded those from GPs or consumers over the past three years, while those from industry sponsors have been greater than the reports from all other sources over the same period. 6CPA DAA potential MPS Australia has urged pharmacies to ramp up their dosage administration aids (DAA) offerings, with significant funding available for DAA services allocated in the Sixth Community Pharmacy Agreement (6CPA). MPS ceo Luke Fitzgerald says the upcoming Primary Health Care Advisory Group reform paper is understood to recommend the formal creation of the so-called ‘medical home’ for patients with chronic conditions - the vast majority of whom would benefit greatly from a DAA. MPS offers an accreditation partnership arrangement with pharmacies to enable them to better serve their customers with chronic conditions and especially those in residential aged care facilities, helping meet the Pharmacy board of Australia’s ‘Guidelines on dose administration aids and staged supply of dispensed medicines’ which takes effect 07 Dec, Fitzgerald said. A survey by NPS MedicineWise in Oct found 29% of respondents aged 50 or older took seven or more prescription medicines regularly, with only 10% of the those accessing a DAA.

API gong for L’Oreal Australian Pharmaceutical Industries has named L’Oreal as its Supplier of the Year at the annual API Supplier Excellence Awards.
