As
PHAT!buzzTM celebrates its 15th year of telling you Wazup , we are checking in with Kenya’s Musical Legends, who have been part of our Phamily since inception. Pioneer Rap Group Kalamashaka’s revolutionary Lyrics changed the way that Kenyan Hip-Hop was viewed, back in 1998. The Trio made a Comeback towards the end of last year, in what now seems more like a Stepping-stone for Johnny Vigeti to Launch his Solo Career. He has been working with Swedish-based Producer - Ken Ring, to Launch his first solo Album: Mr. Vigeti, in May this year. Pb: When did you Discover your Talent? JV: l have loved Music ever since I was a Child, listening to old Records played by my Father; but Professionally, I have been doing it since 1993. Pb: How has the Johnny Vigeti, we knew in Kalamashaka, changed? JV: As time changes and as we continue doing what we do, we Grow and Learn a lot. I am a more Grown-up Vigeti - more Focused and more Sober! Pb: What are your Musical influences? JV: Bob Marley once said Music is Music. I listen to all Genres of Music, because Everything is Unique in its own way. That is when you get to enjoy Music, as an Art form. Pb: What was the inspiration behind the Tracks - Mama and Johnny Vigeti Story by Rahab Njeri.
Barua Ya Mwisho? JV: Basically, my Life and the way I was Living Wrong. Plus, it’s Different from Everything I’ve ever Recorded. The whole Idea, plus the Instrumentation, was just Inspirational. Pb: How is it Working with Ken Ring? JV: He is the Best Thing that could Happen to a Person like me. He has been like my Father, through this whole Experience Showing me the Right, when I am going Wrong. He has been there for me, in a way no one could. I extend my Gratitude to him and his Family, for the Understanding and for having the Patience. Pb: What is the one Thing that you are most Proud of? JV: Having to make the big Decision of Changing my Life. Because otherwise, I do not know what would have happened. The Lord works in mysterious ways. Pb: Other than Music, what do you do for Fun? JV: Many things, which I can’t mention at the moment. Maybe I will Say them in my next Album or my forthcoming Book. Watch out for those. Pb: What Advice would you give to your Fans? JV: Always stay Positive and Pray. So much is Riding on this thing we call Life. Children are the Future and they Expect us to Set an Example. Don’t do Drugs! Pb: What’s next for Johnny Vigeti? JV: Just watch this space. Johnny Vigeti is back! My second Album is coming your way soon. And to all my Fans - without You, there’s no Johnny Vigeti. @JohnnyVigeti

MY REAL NAME IS: Karumba Ngatia, better known as DJ Krowbar. I GOT MY STAGENAME: from my second name Karumba; because when you Pronounce it in my Mother Tongue, it Sounds like saying Crowbar in English. I GOT INTO DEEJAYING: by Mistake! I had gone to Homeboyz Academy to study Music Production, only to be advised by the Receptionist that the best Producers were Deejays first. Without batting an eyelid, I registered for the Class. I BEGAN DEEJAYING: in 2004, at Homeboyz; but became a Christian the following year, so I usually Count from 2005 making it 10 Years. MY CAREER AFTER I WON PILSNER MFALME: blossomed into Something that I was not expecting. My Brand grew tremendously and has Continued ever since. That was God’s way of Launching my Career. I AM CURRENTLY WORKING ON: venturing into Music Production; so my Lifelong Dream is about to begin, or in other words, I am entering the next Phase of my music Calling. MY INSPIRATION FOR DEEJAYING COMES FROM: People and the Experiences I go through - they Lead me to Songs and Songs lead me to Experiences. I like how Music has the Ability to Change a Mood and Take you through Time to Encapsulate Memories. That is my biggest Inspiration. Going out of my way to achieve Moments in my Gigs. MY FUTURE PLANS: include Changing the Scene of our Entertainment Industry. I want our Kids to find Systems working. I want to be a Chairperson for the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK), Performers Rights Society of Kenya (PRISK) or Kenya Association of Music Producers (KAMP). This is where I can Change the Game. IF I WASN’T A DEEJAY, I’D BE A: Chef or a Hairdresser/Stylist. MY ADVICE TO UPCOMING DEEJAYS: There will always be a need for a good Deejay. So, Purpose to be Good and you will get Somewhere. Do what you Love and Love what you Do. Let the Love for the Music drive you. Anything else will misguide you. Have a major Reason why You do Music, other than Money, and you will Succeed. djkrowbar
