Pb: There are plenty of Bands that have Broken-up along the way; and because of your Silence, we assumed that’s what became of Yunasi. What have you been upto? Y: Well, we have been Performing and doing some individual Projects away from our Music. We haven’t been that Silent though: we released ‘Sesube Dance’, featuring Rabbit, earlier on this year. Apart from us being Artists, we have been Friends for over 15 years; so it’s more than just Music for us.
Pb: Is Music all that you pursue? Y: We all actively pursue Music, except for Eric, who happens to be a Teacher; and Domi, who is an IT Specialist.
Pb: What’s in a Name? Why Yunasi and what Shaped your Music? Y: Yunasi simply means ‘You’ and ‘Us’. Our lives have always been our strong points, leaning towards our Music: We Sing what we Experience.
Pb: Tell us one thing that people don’t know about Yunasi? Y: Well primarily, we Support a lot of upcoming Artists.
Pb: You’ve won a BBC Competition, Performed at the World Music Awards and been Nominated for Awards in the UK, plus KORA. What’s your Secret to Success? Y: That’s easy - Unity and Humility.
Pb: What’s your Genre? Y: It’s called SESUBE, for Sega/Sikuti/Benga. Pb: What are some of the biggest Challenges you’ve Faced? Y: So far we have managed to Overcome most of our Challenges; but the Biggest was working on Staying Relevant, both for Home and Abroad markets. Pb: So, who Helped you get where you are today? Y: There’s God, our Fans and Everybody who has been with us, right from day One! Pb: What was your biggest Break? Y: A defining moment would have to be our Single: ‘Usilewe’. The track pushed us far beyond our imagination. Pb: Tell us about your new Single: ‘Mawazo’. What is it about and what Influenced it? Y: ‘Mawazo’ is our new Single - it’s a Kiswahili for ‘Thoughts’. The Song is on what we Think about when we’re in Love.
Pb: How can we get your Music? Y: Our music is on Mdundo, iTunes, Amazon and Spotify. @yunasiband

MY REAL NAME IS: Moses Odupoi. I strive to Deliver high Quality service and something Fresh, in all that I do; so one Word came to mind: ‘Supreme’, and voila - Mopreme was born! GROWING UP: I moved around quite a lot, but Nairobi is my Home. I GOT INTO DEEJAYING: because I’ve always Loved music; so I looked for ways of expressing what it means to me personally. I was actually a hip-hop Dancer and Choreographer, before pursuing Deejaying - my Stagename was: B–Boy. I’VE BEEN BLESSED WITH THE OPPORTUNITY TO PERFORM: at top Nightlife spots like Skyluxx Lounge, Rafikiz Lounge and Changes Pub. I’ve also performed at Festivals, like BBQ Live; and for Companies, like Valentine Cake House. I currently play at the Sankara Hotel in Westlands, every Friday. VEEJAYING IS DIFFERENT FROM DEEJAYING: in that being a Veejay means I add Value to my Deejay services, by including Live Video mixing or adding custom Lighting, to complement my Mix. IN TERMS OF MUSIC GENRES, I ENJOY PLAYING: my Hip-hop (90s todate) and Afro-beat selection. One genre has so much History, while the other is constantly Growing; but both are Shaping the Social structure of my Generation. It’s exciting to be part of it all. MY TAGLINE IS: The Feel Good Deejay. There’s Branding for you. [smiles] IN THE FUTURE: I simply want to Add Value to my Community, Industry and Country. THERE ARE PLENTY OF DEEJAYS AND VEEJAYS IN THE COUNTRY, BUT WHAT SETS ME APART FROM THE REST IS: that I don t just Deejay, I entertain. This is Not a naïve Love or a chase for Wealth and Fame; it’s part of Who I Am. I tirelessly Push Boundaries, with the Resources I have, to Invest in and Diversify my Art. The record shows that I am just Cut from a Different Cloth.
