Time to be part of something truly special? Join us as a Patron
Our 1300 year tradition... We are very fortunate to be the present custodians of such a wonderful and special place as Lichfield Cathedral, with its unique spiritual and historical heritage. Over the past 1300 years, countless people have played their part in helping to preserve and enhance this great building and its many beautiful treasures, and faithfully pass them on to the next generation. Sadly, such beauty and antiquity come at a price. Our running costs today are very high and rising all the time. It is a daily struggle just to keep pace with essential repairs and maintenance – let alone carry out the many improvement projects that we would love to be able to afford, like becoming more energy-efficient and sustainable.

...needs your support as a Patron Our running and upkeep costs currently stand at over £26,700 a week. That is £5.30 for every minute that the Cathedral is open. Our music costs alone are more than £300,000 a year. Already high, our utility bills are soaring. The sandstone of our building is crumbling and needs constant care. We receive no money directly from the government to help with these costs – so we rely on income sources such as property rentals in the Close, congregational collections, planned giving, and lettings for concerts and events. None of these is enough. We have had to cut down our costs, and slow down or defer a number of projects. The good news is that the Patron’s scheme has now been running successfully for eight years. Yet even the income from this is only enough to fund just one week’s worth of overheads. © Tom Allwood (tomallwood.com)
We need more Patrons to join us – urgently.
