Mathematics (33GH) Is teaching Maths for me?
How can I prepare?
Do you love Mathematics and want to share your passion with others? Are you able to break a problem down and explain mathematical rules to people who find it challenging? Mathematics is a hugely valuable subject and one that all schoolchildren must study so it is important to be able make it accessible, relevant and interesting. It develops problem solving skills, logical thinking and resilience all of which are extremely important moving into the world of work. We want to train teachers who are the very best subject specialists to inspire the next generation.

What will I study? You will have the opportunity to become part of a secondary school Mathematics department. Here you will observe experienced teachers, experience classes at all levels and build up to teaching groups collaboratively and independently. Modern Languages (33GJ) Is Modern Languages for me?
How can I prepare?
At Prince Henry’s you will work alongside professionals who have a wealth of experience in their field and are passionate about the languages that they teach. We create a learning environment in the classroom that motivates and encourages students to communicate, as far as possible, in the target language, and incites them to take on challenges as well as risks with their learning. We employ different teaching methods that actively engage our students in meaningful and experiential learning as well as trigger their curiosity.
Think carefully about your subject knowledge and how current it is. Try to plug any gaps in your grammatical knowledge and have a look at some of the exam board websites such as AQA and Edexcel. At A level, students have to study a novel and a film, have a look at the prescribed choices, how would you feel at the prospect of having to teach one of these?
The Modern Foreign Languages course will give you a comprehensive foundation to become an outstanding NQT and teacher of Modern Foreign Languages.
What will I study? The breadth of the MFL National Curriculum will be explored, together with relevant and current Teaching and Learning Pedagogy. You will have the opportunity to test ideas and various teaching strategies in a supportive environment, gradually developing your classroom skills. From focused observation of teachers in the classroom and working together with teachers in lessons, you will gain insights into the successful planning and delivery of MFL lessons and other classroom organisation and management issues. You will be provided with all of the tools in order to empower the students in the four skills of Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing.

Physical Education (36GN) Is teaching Physical Education for me?
How can I prepare?
If you want to use your passion for sport to shape the lives of children, Physical Education is a great course for you. You’ll be able to follow your interests in sport, health, wellbeing and working with young people by training as a PE teacher.
A PE SCITT Trainee is expected to have a strong working subject knowledge of a range of different practical sports and activities. You will also be exposed to the theoretical side of the subject. Therefore, revising your practical skills and addressing gaps in your subject knowledge is advisable. Obtaining coaching qualifications in different sports is a traditional path taken by many prospective PE teachers and is strongly recommended.
Get first-hand experience of working practically and in the classroom during your time in school. While on placement, you’ll develop the skills needed to deal with the demands of secondary school teaching in today’s world. At Prince Henry’s we believe that children need PE teachers who can inspire and motivate them through a range of innovative and creative lessons, empowering their class to get involved with sport by bringing physical activity to life. If you are similarly enthusiastic about the subject and if you aspire to make a real difference then choose PE!
What will I study? The course is active and practical, allowing you to develop professional competencies through work undertaken in school. We explore the difference between teaching practical PE compared to the theoretical side of the subject. You’ll also work with subject specialists, young people, develop expertise in your specialist subject area, share and discuss educational issues and study relevant educational research. The course is just the beginning of what we hope will be a process of continual professional development throughout a challenging and rewarding career.
