Problem
Cause
Solution
Colour has not taken
The pigment did not reach the dermis
Stretch and pressure need improvement
Skin bleeds easily/client bleeds heavily
The client’s skin is too thin/ sensitive or pressure applied is too heavy
Lighten up the pressure and work slowly and methodically. Make each stroke count
Result is blotchy
Uneven pressure or differing angles used
Focus on consistency of pressure and needle contact. Slow down
Colour too ashy
Colour has been implanted too deep - or pigment selected needs a warm modifier adding to it
Remove existing design or apply a warm modifier to pigment at follow-up
Thick, crusty scab has formed
Thick plasma has formed on the skin as a result of too much aftercare product without cleaning. As a result the skin is unable to breathe
Remove the scab through rinsing the face with a hot shower, gently rubbing the area. Apply unscented moisturiser until follow-up
Healed strokes are fuzzy/blurry
The client has an oily skin type or heavy bleeding has occurred. Technique or defective needle could also be responsible
Stretch skin tighter on follow-up and space strokes out further in a darker pigment to add dimension
Missing spaces
Inconsistent technique
Stretch the skin tighter and work slowly on each stroke whilst maintaining consistent pressure and an upright angle. Focus on ensuring all needles make full contact with the skin
