CREATIVE BRIEF

BATTLES & BEATS

SERIES TITLE • Battles & Beats SERIES CONCEPT & SUMMARY • Throughout the Bible we find God's people in the middle of battles facing the most difficult odds. The leaders of God's people do not just face great armies, or tyrants, but also their own; imperfections, fear, worry, insecurities, and personal circumstances. • How can we experience everyday victories against everyday battles? How can we know God will be with us in battle when our challenges are greater than we can handle on our own? • Each week, we’ll talk through a battle someone faced in the bible that took extraordinary faith, and a song (Beats) that can inspire us to do the same.

OBJECTIVES • Develop a visual direction that can help inspire our print/web/ design/stage/video elements for the series • Create some mystery and intrigue from the graphic. Response of audience should be “what’s that going to be about” rather than trying explaining everything. DESIGN APPROACH Modern army, manly, bold, energetic, revolutionary, rugged

BATTLES & BEATS

Has a cool revolutionary feel to the layout, text and textures

Like how they brought in multiple textures inside the text. Could be a cool way to bring in the design treatment to our video as well.

BATTLES & BEATS

Would like for it to have a hint of army or camo texture to it somewhere.

BATTLES & BEATS

Using a old record or CD texture may be a cool way to bring in the musical aspect of the series.

Examples of type treatment and texture that might work well for the series.

WEEKLY OVERVIEW OF SERIES Week 1: Sin and the God of Second Chances The Battle of Al Joshua 7 and 8 Key Verses, Joshua 7:11Israel has sinned; they have transgressed my covenant that I commanded them; they have taken some of the devoted things; they have stolen and lied and put them among their own belongings.12Therefore the people of Israel cannot stand before their enemies. They turn their backs before their enemies, because they have become devoted for destruction. I will be with you no more, unless you destroy the devoted things from among you. (Cross Reference Judges 16:20, Psalm 60:10-11) Are there real consequences for practicing and hiding sin in our lives, or is that just a way to drum up fear to keep people in compliance? When there was sin in the Israelite camp there was broken fellowship with God and they no longer experienced victory as they had previously. God explains He cannot be where sin is so He could not dwell with His people in the same way. Before we can fight any other Battles in our lives we have to begin by conquering the sins that prevent us from experiencing victory in our everyday lives.

Week 2: Overcoming Fear and Fighting in Prayer Jehoshophat vs. Moabites and Ammonites 2 Chronicles 20 Key Verses, 15 And he said, "Listen, all Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem and King Jehoshaphat: Thus says the Lord to you, "Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed at this great horde, for the battle is not yours but God's. 17You will not need to fight in this battle. Stand firm, hold your position, and see the salvation of theLord on your behalf, O Judah and Jerusalem." Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed. Tomorrow go out against them, and the Lord will be with you." (Cross Reference, Exodus 14:13-14, 1 Samuel 17:47, Ephesians 6) Fear can be imagined in the battlefield of the mind, and plant seeds of worry. There are also very real circumstances that we may face that create fear that is carried around. Health scares, overwhelming financial circumstances, relational heartaches, and more. When King Jehoshophat is faced with overwhelming odds He leads Judah into a time of prayer and fasting that conquers fear and the circumstances that created it.

Week 3: Victory Over Strongholds Joshua vs. Jericho Joshua 6 Key Verse, 1Now Jericho was shut up inside and outside because of the people of Israel. None went out, and none came in. 2And the Lord said to Joshua, "See, I have given Jericho into your hand, with its king and mighty men of valor. (Cross Reference, Deuteronomy 7:24, Joshua 23:8-9, 2 Corinthians 10:4-5) Do you know what it's like to have skeletons in your closet? Whenever you come against a battle in your life is there an obvious elephant in the room, or a wall, that everyone else knows needs to fall, but you haven't the confidence to face? Is it an addiction that needs to crumble, or a negative attitude attached to low self-worth and not understanding an identity in Christ. Strongholds don't just keep victory out, they cause us to never face our inward struggles. When we are brave enough to allow God to tear down our walls we can

truly begin to transform and experience the abundant life journey.

Week 4: God’s Strength In Our Weakness Gideon and the 300 vs. Midian Judges 7 Key Verse, 2The Lord said to Gideon, "The people with you are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hand, lest Israel boast over me, saying, "My own hand has saved me." (Cross-reference Deuteronomy 8:17-18, 1 Corinthians 2:5, 2 Corinthians 4:7) It is very tempting for people who have known about God or had a personal relationship with God for a long time to attempt to fight their own battles with what they believe already works for them. Work harder, work smarter, work longer, get mad, have a confrontation, and try to muster up your own victory. How do you experience victory when all your options are exhausted? Sometimes God wants us to move out of the way and just apply the principles of scripture in obedience. When God eliminates our strengths how do we live in the light of faith to experience victory?
