Our Story

Rick Alden was riding a chairlift in Park City, a snowboard beneath his feet and a problem in his hands. He wanted to listen to his music but needed to take a call. His gear made it tough to switch his headphones from one device to the other. Rick decided he could solve this problem. He knew he could do it better. He didn’t stop there. He saw a bigger issue: headphones weren’t being designed to meet his lifestyle passions. They were boring and fragile pieces of technology completely out of tune with his culture. Electronics and action sports--the two didn’t mix. Not yet. From this unholy alliance, Skullcandy was born. Skullcandy is the original lifestyle audio brand. But being first isn’t easy. In 2003, skate shops didn’t sell audio equipment and a lot of them weren’t sure they wanted to. Rick persisted. One by one he convinced them this was an idea whose time had come. And he was right. The Skullcandy brand was embraced by action sports, and Skullcandy returned the love. This brand was earned, not manufactured. The passion and dedication showed, and in less than a decade, Skullcandy grew from a garage-based startup into a publicly traded organization with offices around the world. Today, we design the best headphones in terms of style, quality, and performance at every price point we compete in. But don’t be mistaken. This is not a pat on the back for a job well done – it’s a kick in the ass to take Skullcandy to the next level. Our story is just getting started.

Behind our Supreme Sound message and solidifying our position as producers of true “Performance” audio are the efforts of the several talented individuals who make up our Advanced Concept Engineering (ACE) team. Around the office, we refer to them collectively as the “the Golden Ear.”

From the beginning, weâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ve built products that are a reflection of our lifestyle. As the years have passed, our consumer has matured as we have grown up with them. Our past speaks to our cultural passions, while our future looks toward technological advances that enhance those passions. This year is the culmination of all our efforts, as we highlight our latest proprietary technologies, patented feature sets and inspired designs. Our 2013 product represents a brand that has matured and will continue to do so while always remaining connected to the next generation.

2013 Key Stories

We are opportunity chasers, trendsetters and audio experts. So this year, we’re introducing more than a few products worth talking about. We’ll fill you in on two of them: Crusher and Navigator. These products are testaments to both our growth as a brand and our dedication to next level audio quality. Equally important as acoustic performance is the product’s overall aesthetic--that’s why we’re also excited to introduce our Neon and Realtree seasonal concepts. These key stories are the core of our 2013 line, and they promise to leave a mark long after we’ve moved on to even bigger things.

Kolohe Andino was born with a surfing pedigree that is second to none. His father was a US Surfing Champion and World Tour Rookie of the Year.
