Venice Project
Spring 2021 | Instructor: Eric Owen Moss
Other group members: Mofei Li
In the 3GB studio, we have discussions about “What can Architecture do?” through two projects. One is the Austria Project, the other is the Venice Project. This is the Venice Project.
Our site is located two blocks away from Venice Beach of LA, at the east end of the Venice Blvd, it’s also the north end of the remnant portion of the Venice Canal. We are proposing a project with a new topography - wetland as a public urban place and some affordable units with mix-use programs as art gallery, retail, parking on the site. We started with the landscape by converting the original parking into a wetland to expand the water from the end of the canal for more public space for walking, running and bird watching.
In order to be well lit in the wetland, the building is naturally built around it, with the north side being big and high and the south side being small and low. The affordable housing is lifted up from the half underground lobby to create a transparent view to the wetland from the North Venice Blvd. Art galleries and retail forms inherit the terrain and provide more seating areas and viewing spots for wetlands. The parking is located under the wetland with the entrance from the North Venice Blvd and the exit on Dell Ave.

Spring 2021
| Instructor: Eric Owen Moss
Other group members: Mofei Li
In the 3GB studio, we have discussions about “What can Architecture do?” through two projects. One is the Austria Project, the other is the Venice Project. This is the Austria Project.
Our site is located is located 80 km southwest of Vienna in the town of Marktl. Prefa Aluminum, a major European engineering, manufacturing, and construction company. The company intends to build the Prefa Academy above an existing on grade parking lot site situated between the main highway to and from Vienna, and the Traisen River that flows just east of the site.
The Academy program includes conference, exhibition, classroom, and office facilities.

3GA ADV PROJECT DELIVERY
Fall 2020 |
Instructor: Pavel Getov + Kerenza Harris
This course focuses on advanced methods of project delivery and construction documents incorporating digital technologies and investigating new models for linking design and construction processes. It introduces Building Information Modeling as one of the tools for realignment of the traditional relationships between the project stakeholders. Using a single unit residential building located in Los Angles, I analyzed and developed the architecture by creating a detailed 3d digital model and a set of 2d construction documents specifically tailored for the design challenges of a single unit residential project.

VITRA CAMPUS PROJECT
Fall 2019 | Instructor: Peter Trummer
Other group members: Yuto Yokomizo
This is a new space of production site in the Vitra Campus. It is an architecture between museum and factory, it is also a space between Homogeneous and Heterogeneous Space. Through the deep study and analyze of the amazing collection of signature architecture in the campus, we had be able to produce 99 diagrams through those buildings. Our schematic Design was build on top of those diagrams to create an architecture that is part of the existing collection but something slightly different.
We chose the parking lot as our building site. The homogeneous and heterogeneous space idea is not just existing in the plan and section, but also in the idea of the relationship of building and the ground.

Bathhouse Project
The 1GB studio expands on the fundamental problems of architectural geometry and representation developed in the 1GA studio, completing the foundational studio sequence of the first-year. The studio project for 1GB is an Urban Bathhouse in Los Angeles. The form and program of the project is framed through the disciplinary topics of typology and poche as understood through figure ground relationships of mass and void.
This urban bathhouse creates a dense pack of figural mineral baths in downtown Los Angeles. I chose the “Xiaozhuan” of traditional Chinese fonts as my profile. This font has more than 3,000 years of history, beautiful glyph, the interframe structure is regular, each curve is different and the whole is full of rhyme. I selected a few fonts in an article to produce profiles. Different profiles had been used profile to project along axes to create spaces.

122 DESIGN STUDIO
Seemingly random combinations of rooms intersect each other in square boxes to form new spaces. Although it starts entirely from a different starting point, the cross section has a traditional bathroom style. The strong contrast between the sections and the plan gave me the inspiration and direction for the further design.

Rooms of different shape scales produce interesting combinations of permutations. The design starts from the two dimensions of the section and then extends to the three-dimensional building structure. Unlike the traditional façade of the past, the two-story floor of the building is not level with the building structure but is closely related to the various scales of the bathroom pool.
