These drones are the future and as the world advances so does our technology. Amazon and Google are working to deliver packages using drones. Drones are also used for photography and videos. Police are also working on using to monitor dangerous areas, and get 1st person perspectives on crimes. The new trend of hoverboards with wheels has gotten people wild. Have you ever wondered which phone is the best? Well, there are 2 brands of phones the everyone will name. These brands are, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the IPhone 6. HOVERBOARDS & REMOTE CONTROLLED SKATEBOARDS

FETTY WAP’S ACCIDENT Fetty Wap was involved in a motorcycle accident on September 26th, 2015 in his hometown of Paterson, New Jersey. He experienced a head on collision with another vehicle. He was immediately rushed to the hospital and examined for possible fractures. He currently says that he is “okay.”

While, the remote controlled skateboard is one of the new promoted gadgets, skating is hard because you have to balance. But, this vehicle takes the difficulty out of of skating. You get to guide where you want the vehicle to go. This remote controlled skateboard costs $200 to $1200. The iWatch and the Samsung Smartwatch are also the new gadgets hitting the market. They are very popular and most people use it with their phone. More and more companies, like Motorola, LG and Sony, and are making more smart watches that cost about 100 to 10,000 dollars. The reason that they are very expensive is because of their many apps and their ability to be used just like a phone.

If you are the type of person that has their entire life in their phone, or if you are on your phone 24/7(like my mom),you should choose any of the Samsung devices - starting after the Note 3. My mom has the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. It is pocket size and has more storage than the Iphone 6 and the Iphone 6 plus.

The accident I only one day after the rapper released his new album featuring the hits “RGF Island”, “Trap Queen”, and “Again.”

The IPhone 6 and the IPhone 6 Plus are ok. I wouldn't say that they are the best phone due to the things that can happen to them. One of the flaws with these phones are the battery life. Customers of the two phones above are satisfied. Scott Stein, who writes for CNET, explained that better battery life topped many users’ wish lists of features for the new iPhones. But Apple did not deliver. However, Stein also explains that ¨For users who depend on their iPhones as a hub — pairing them with wearables or fitness trackers, connecting them to their in-car infotainment systems, streaming music, browsing the web, tweeting, emailing, and more¨ — the iPhone 6 battery isn’t bad. NAIL ART What do you see when you look at most girls or women hands? I know what I see, I see nail art. Nail art is very popular in the United States. Nail art is so popular that they even made a tv show called Nail’d It. It was a tv show about 12 people that had to compete for $100,000. The champion of the tv show was Ashley Craig. Back to nails...Nail Art had been around for a long time. It was around 3,000 years before Christ. Back then they used enamel on their fingers. That’s a pretty long time.

While in his hospital bed he stated, “Even if the album don’t go anywhere, that doesn’t mean nothing to me. For the most part, I don’t really have a story to tell. It’s the same story; everybody come out with the same story. They came from nothing, they got something and now they have everything. It’s the story everybody already knows about. I just figured, why keep telling that they ain’t gonna get the chance to live this way?”

Alright, the first dance I will talk about is called “Hit the Quan”. The “Hit The Quan” dance was originally performed by Rich Homie Quan in his video for his song “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh).” Three months after Richie Homie Quan’s video got released, an artist called iHeart Memphis made up a song called “Hit The Quan”, which features how to do the dance that Rich Homie Quan perfomed. This song went viral all over social media. This catchy song created the hashtag: “#HitTheQuanChallenge”. This hashtag features people of all different ages and sizes making their own version of “hit the quan”. Many are done with the app “Musical.ly” or “Dubsmash”.

TEAM HONDA Honda is one of the most popular cars on the road. If you go to Japan, you will find at least 2.7 billion Honda’s. I am one of the biggest Honda people in my school. If you go and ask me, you will find out why I love honda. I love DC2, K series, B series, EM2 and EM3.If you want to see Hondas drag race or shoot flames, you should go to Englishtown, NJ. They have a race every day and it is super loud and cool. With Honda’s, every car has a built in Vtec sticker. The stickers come in black, red and white. The Honda s2000 is the BEST car Honda has ever made and they made it for drifting, racing, and drag racing. Shawn Thompson

ANTICIPATED GAMES

For all you Star Wars lovers EA has created a game named Star Wars BattleFront. There will be places and people in the game that were in the movie, like Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader. EA has already released the Beta for this game ( If you didn't know, a beta is a preview of the game that people can play, but it does not last forever). I had a chance to play this game, and the graphics are amazing. They really captured the scenery of the movie and put it in the game. Star Wars is set to be released on November 17, 2015. The newest Need For Speed is coming out on November 3, 2015, and it is better than ever! The Need For Speed franchise is one of the best racing game companies ever made. This game has a wide variety of customization and this is a good thing because you don't want to

be driving around in an online game where every car is the same - it would get really boring. There will be action packed racing and free roam with this game; it will be one of Need for Speed’s best games ever! You might not have heard of this game, but it's called the Division. It is about how there was a virus in New York and it spread everywhere. That is when everyone went rogue and started killing each other. You can't trust anyone except your friends. You can also make an alliance, but it is at your own risk. You have to have strategies to get through fights. And, if you lose you have to respond at your base and you also lose all your gear, so be careful about your decisions. This game is set to come out on March 8, 2015.

FICTION CORNER Painful Eye-Opener

Great-Grandma

I opened my eyes. All I could hear at the moment was beeping machines, each noise maker beeping at different paces, and the television was on. A male reporter was speaking, he was probably talking about the heat wave that was upon us. I remember there being a curtain to my left, shielding me from seeing another patient. A doctor walked through the door with my mother. “Good Morning Adriana, are you aware of where you are?” he asked. I took a swift movement attempting to sit up, pain shot through my chest, I groaned. My mother tried to rush over to me. “Adri, be careful. Just sit back. You’re hurt.” The smell of morphine and urine hit me like a brick. I regained most of my vision, noticing the few needles attached to my left arm and the hospital gown covering my body. The doctor introduced himself, as he came closer to my bed. “Well my dear, you are currently a patient at University Hospital. You received a few breaks and fractures due to a severe car accident. But you are lucky and will be okay,” the doctor informed me. I was kind of stuck in the moment. I mean, I have seen stuff like this happen before on the news, but I never took it into consideration that it could actually happen to me. I remember this whole experience being a shock to me. I was not sure how to handle it. I sat in the ER, where I now realized I was, taking everything in. The dimmed lights, the old television connected to the wall which wasn’t too loud, probably to not disturb us patients and then, there were machines. So many machines and I did not know what any of them did. The other patient with whom I shared a room, a male, I guessed, started to mumble. To me, it was like an unknown language lost in time. I closed my eyes, trying to remember what happened, the last thing I remember. Nothing, it was all blank. Days passed and I did the same thing that whole week. It got a little boring after a while. I sat up in a hospital bed all day not being able to move. I was not sure how long I was going to be there, although I was informed many times that it would not be too long. Watching TV failed me, as I never thought it could. It did not go as planned. The television was in the left corner of the room and I could not turn my head. In the end, I kept myself occupied with my thoughts. “Why don't I remember anything? What street were we on? What beach were we even going to?” I thought to myself. I was so confused, and I was upset that I could not remember anything. A few important names popped into my mind, but that was all I could remember. It was like that was all I was trying to remember. In time, I thought I might get use to the hospital and maybe feel a little more at home. I started to feel much better, hence the fact that I could now walk on crutches to the bathroom by myself, as well as sit up in a regular chair, which I could not do before. It also makes it better to have all your friends visit you. Everyday, four families (give or take a few) came to see how I was doing. The encouraging words made me feel like letting this incident get to me was no longer an option. After a while, I told myself something I find very important now. “When you are physically able to be great, do it, because you never know when your chance can be taken away from you.” As the days passed, I realized how lucky I was. How I should cherish all of my possessions, and how lucky I am to have the parents and friends that I have. Walking around on crutches everyday, with limitations on my every action, I realized that life could be taken from you in a split second. It is best to take advantage of the time that you have. The results of the accident really opened my eyes to the world, making me realize that it is not all fun and games anymore. I am choosing to be great now because I never know when my chance to be amazing will be taken away from me.

At first glance, it was simply a dated black and white photo of an old woman in a vintage early 20th century suit, with a single inscription reading, “mother”. In fact, to five-year-old me, it was just a picture that sat on our mantle of an incredibly tall and stern old woman. However, as I got older I began to look more closely at the picture and my impressions started to change. The face that I once thought of as stern, was covered in wrinkles and laugh lines that spoke of years of strain and hard work, sprinkled with love. It brought to mind, stories told to me of this woman’s struggle. Stories of trying to hold one's head up high because you grew up during a time when you were only valued for the bend of your back instead of the intelligence trapped inside. Great grandma’s face, forever immortalized in black and white, spoke not just of being devalued, but of finding ways to rise above your circumstances. Staring into the camera great grandma’s eyes were deep and dark, yet somehow full of life. The eyes are the windows to soul, and great grandma’s soul seemed to say a thousands things at once. Her eyes said to me “ I do this for my family, I am more than a cleaning lady, did I miss a spot?” This is what her eyes say to me, but I will never know for sure. I wonder if she could see the change that was to come? Hands slightly disfigured, gnarled from hours and hours scrubbing splintered wooden floors with an old rag and a bar of waxy soap. Analyzing her hands, I recalled that my mother once recounted that great grandma was always in pain but never complained. At night she wrapped her hands in warm towels to ease the pain before another grueling day of work. Ugly, unattractive, and unfeminine is what most would say, if they were to see her hands. However, I see the hands that loved and provided for my mother and my mother’s mother. Through photos and conversations, one dominant theme emerged above all others and that is, great grandma was a hard worker. There were photographs of her washing laundry by hand using an old battered wash bucket and scrub board. Stories of how she chopped wood for the fire with an ax, the handle so worn, that it left her hands chafed and callused. Her strength was larger than her stature as she carried heavy blocks of ice and buckets of coal. These are the things that she did before she went to her job as a cleaning woman. My mother explained to me that there were not many opportunities for black men and women during this time period. Even though slavery was over, African Americans were still valued primarily as laborers in America. At first this made me feel very sad inside. However, after a while I became somewhat angry and decided to transform that sorrow into ambition. Although, I am tremendously proud of my ancestors for doing their jobs with honor and dignity, I decided that I owe it to great grandma to labor with my mind. So, whenever I feel as if I would rather play video games instead of studying, it only takes a brief reflection upon the photograph to become refocused. I never thought that one century old photo could provide so much history and guidance for one young man. Today, I only look at the photograph occasionally, and I wonder how this woman had the time and energy to stop and compose herself for such a polished photo. The strength of great grandma is always somewhere in the back of my mind. No longer is she simply tall and stern. Floretta McIntyre is now strong, resilient, and stoic. The woman in the photo, who I have never known, has become one of my greatest inspirations.

EDITOR’S NOTE

NEW AT PACS

This month at PACS has been jam-packed with action. October was the month of Respect, and we were introduced to the GREAT MOTHER RESPECT. She told the students that we need to stand up to bullying – to be an upstander NOT a bystander. We also learned about how creative our Upper School Student body is during a NO BULLYING assembly; they sang and danced beautifully. We had multiple dress down days, which is always really fun! All classes worked very hard with their teachers for the United Nations Door Contest. Our winner was Ms. Ito’s home room, 6B. As their prize, 6B will be making a traditional Chinese meal in our teaching kitchen. Our Recipe of the month was Spaghetti Squash with sweet apples and cinnamon. Other yummy treats made in the kitchen were apple roses, baked donuts and Cuban rice and beans! On Friday, October 30th, the students will celebrate another dress down day followed by a Halloween Skate Night and Trunk or Treat at Branch Brook Park. Halloween means lots of candy, and there is sure to be many yummy treats around the school. The end of our first quarter is just around the corner, and students are working diligently to do their very best. With A’s and B’s, our students will make the honor roll and names will be announced at Community Time; it’s a proud moment for many! Next month, there is much to look forward to…and before we know it, we will be having our Thanksgiving feast in the Falcon dining room. Time is flying!
