Bass Coast Shire Council acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders as the first Australians and recognises that they have a unique relationship with the land and water. Council recognises that we are situated on the traditional lands of the Bunurong /Boonwurrung, members of the Kulin Nation who have lived here for thousands of years. We offer our respect to their elders past and present and through them, all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Bass Coast is home to a thriving arts community. The beauty of its natural environment, and the close proximity to Melbourne, attracts the creative spirit. It is also one of Victoria’s most popular tourist destinations due to the beautiful coastline, scenic hinterland and laid back life style. I love thinking of all my art out in the world being used during those intimate meditative moments, being hunted down in the dish washer or on the drying rack to be enjoyed again and again. Making gives meaning not only 6
to me, but also to those who interact with my ceramics every day. May it bring you joy.” Jeni is also working on a public art project of a 180m wingspan Odonata Geoglyph in the Anderson hills above Bass (at project stage). Open: by appointment.

13 Luminous Galleries Public Art Di Lutz m 0428 599 621 w basscoast.vic.gov.au/luminous Facebook Coronet Bay Luminous Gallery The four Waterline Luminous Galleries, which innovatively motivate community involvement and connection, are clusters of small permanent lights with inbuilt features for attracting three dimensional artworks. These lights also contain the locations of the Waterline townships which ‘link’ the towns to each other. The lights are programmed to turn on and off each evening. The galleries are located in Coronet Bay, Corinella, Grantville and Pioneer Bay. Like ‘stars in the ground’ these unobtrusive galleries become like a canvas onto which temporary art can be constructed. Installations are also enjoyed during the day with the subtler impact of natural light. The wonderful outdoor galleries which light up each night are an artistic and unique asset to this area. Over the last three years several light festivals/events, along with the installation of these lights in their four towns have been a major source of artistic and community endeavour in the area.

Public Art 39 Kernot Reserve 2019 Collide by James Voller Kernot Reserve, Kernot Collide uses imagery of sheds and old farmhouses from the area surrounding Kernot. From most angles, the work appears as abstract shards of heritage architecture, but from a certain angle, the work aligns to create the shape of an old barn. This transforms the work from abstract to figurative. Collide is an illusionary sculpture that changes as people interact with the site, allowing them to engage with the past, present and future of Bass Coast. As the area is one of the earliest European settlements in Victoria, it is an ideal platform to look at the collision between the landscape and early European architecture. The work examples how buildings have evolved and adapted to survive in the landscape. Many of the local barns, sheds and farmhouses have been stitched together from different materials and styles. The sculpture reflects this, as it forms the illusion of an old farm structure stitched together from four local heritage buildings.

live and visit the island. Anton has designed four bronze bells with wave shapes that are tuned harmonically. People can use the softened dampers to play music with each other. On top of the bells are little bronze sculptures of surfers on waves. The Harmony Bells represent the sea waves as well as the waves of people who come and go from Phillip Island and they also tell of our maritime history.
