Gov. Christie Is Scrooge, Not Santa New Jersey voters have a big “Bah, Humbug!” for Gov. Christopher Christie as 54% see him more as Scrooge while 28% see him more as Santa Claus, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released yesterday.

Republicans see Gov. Christie as Santa Claus 47-36%, but the Scrooge label comes 71-15% from Democrats and 54-29% from independent voters, the independent Quinnipiac University poll finds.

There is a small gender gap under the mistletoe as women say Scrooge 57-26% and men apply the title 52-30%.

The Scrooge label runs from 4738% among voters at the shore to 61-25% in the South Jersey Philadelphia suburbs.

“At this Christmas season, we turned to Charles Dickens and Clement Clarke Moore for inspiration,” said Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. “We seem to have inspired voters, especially Democrats, to say their Governor could use a visit from the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future. Maybe next year, Gov. Chris.”

City’s Congressional Delegation: Keep Nutter The three members of the United States House of Representatives who represent Philadelphia have endorsed Mayor Michael Nutter’s reelection bid. Congressmen Chaka Fattah and Robert Brady, and Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz emphasized the need for a “no-nonsense problem-solver” who “understands how to work with ... the federal government to get results for Philadelphia.”

“I have enjoyed a great working relationship with each of these members of Congress,” said Nutter.

“They understand what it is at stake for the City of Philadelphia during these challenging times, and I am grateful for their support. We have worked together to help create jobs, improve our high school graduation rate, increase capital investments in green energy, and preserve our cultural institutions.”

Schwartz described Nutter as “an outspoken champion for the City who has successfully attracted new business development and federal investments, while promoting innovative ‘green’ policies, and improving basic education. He understands how to work with President Obama and the federal government to get results for Philadelphia.”

Mayor Announces Details Of Mummers Parade Mayor Nutter, elected officials and Mummers Parade representatives announced details of the 2011 Mummers Parade. The parade will begin at 10:00 a.m. at Broad Street & Washington Avenue and proceed toward City Hall. Bleachers will be provided for spectators along Broad Street so they can enjoy the most fan-friendly Mummers Parade in its 110-year history. Families are encouraged to bring their children to the parade’s six Performance Zones that will line Broad Street.

DJ entertainment, food and bathroom facilities will be made available at the following six locations: Broad & Shunk Streets, Broad & Wolf Streets, Broad Street & Washington Avenue, Broad & Pine Streets, Broad & Sansom Streets and 15th & Market Streets.

“The performance zones are a winwin for everyone,” said Mummers Association President Bob Shannon. “Fans will get more comfort and better views, and more people than ever will get to see the performances we work so hard on all year long.”

The Mummers Parade will feature five divisions, each with its own unique tradition. The Comics, a division that satirizes hot political issues and pop culture will step off at 10:00 a.m. at Broad Street & Washington Ave. The Comic Wench Brigades will follow at 10:30 a.m. The Fancies will then perform at Broad & Moore Streets and at 11:00 a.m. the String Bands will perform at Broad & Shunk Streets. The Fancy Brigades will perform at 1:30 p.m. at Broad Street & Oregon Avenue. The City Hall Grand Stand Entertainment Zone, one of the six Performance Zones that is located at 15th & Market Streets, will provide ticketed bleacher seating for spectators.

Tickets for this seating will be sold for $19 per person to assist with operational costs.

Casey Urges Help For Food Banks

US Senator Bob Casey (D-Pa.) spearheaded a letter signed by 13 of his Senate colleagues urging the Obama Administration to provide a sustained level of funding for the Emergency Food Assistance Program, which provides funding for food banks to purchase nutritious foods and to help transport and deliver that food to those low-income Americans in need at no cost to them. Federal support for TEFAP is estimated to drop off by at least $100 million this fiscal year.

City Closes Down For Christmas, New Year’s 4|

Keller Will Head Dems On Labor Committee State Rep. Bill Keller (D-S. Phila.) has been appointed to serve as Democratic chairman of the House Labor Relations Committee for the 2011-12 legislative session.

The appointment was made on Tuesday by House Democratic Leader Frank Dermody (D-Allegheny).

The Labor Relations Committee reviews legislation on issues such as the state’s minimum wage, unemployment compensation, workers’ compensation, building and construction codes, and workplace health and safety. Blue Man Group’s Tricksters, Scientists, Shamans Bring Unique Rhythm And Movement To Philly

by Adam Taxin Blue Man Group, a touring version of the popular multimedia production, opened last night at the Merriam Theater on Center City’s Avenue of the Arts, running for a limited engagement through Sunday, Jan. 2.

Formed in Manhattan in 1987, Blue Man Group features three nonspeaking characters of similar height who are dressed in black while covered in blue grease paint, with latex caps that give them the appearance of being bald. An accompanying band plays tribal rhythms while the performers take the audience on a journey which the production itself describes as “funny, intelligent and visually stunning.”

General Judd, a Blue Man performer for the last 12 years (who, over separate performances, changes which characters he plays) describes the characters as “very curious and cautious” in how they move. “It creates a unique way of moving.”

Regarding the three characters, Judd points out they “are very similar, but they all have their own unique personalities [trickster, scientist, hero/shaman], which creates the rift somewhat throughout the 8|

show. [You’ll have] two characters on the same page and one character deciding to do something else, so as to create these funny interactions between them.”

Dave Traver, music director and guitar player for the national tour, mentions that the characters not only communicate in their actions, “but they’re highly competent drummers.”

According to Traver, one of the most common reactions among audience members, especially parents, after seeing the show is: “We didn’t know what to expect. I didn’t even want to come. I just brought my kids, but it was not what I expected, and I was very pleased by the whole experience” The current production mixes classics from previous productions with new content. This is the group’s first theatrical production, THE PHILADELPHIA DAILY RECORD

as opposed to arena rock show, to tour North America.

While the production now in Philadelphia is Blue Man Group’s only touring show, Blue Man Group currently has shows running in New York, Boston, Chicago, Las Vegas, Orlando (Universal Studios), Berlin, Tokyo, Vienna and on the Norwegian Cruise Line’s “Epic.”
