As Others Play Huff & Gamble, Sen. Washington Will Talk At The Dell The iconic songwriter/producing duo, Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff, are credited with sharing the “The Sound of Philadelphia” with the world through their production company as well as giving back to their hometown community and now those who attend “A Tribute to Gamble & Huff: 40 Years of International Records” can give back as well. Area music lovers groove to the sounds of Philadelphia at The Dell Music Center in honor of the 40th anniversary of Gamble’s and Huff’s production company, Philadelphia International Records (PIR), while supporting victims of domestic violence. One dollar of every ticket purchased for the Thursday, Jul. 21 show will be donated to Philadelphia’s only domestic abuse hotline (866-SAFE-014) through the fourth annual “Walk to End Domestic Violence.” 13 JUNE, 2011

State Sen. LeAnna Washington (D-Northwest) founded the “Walk to End Domestic Violence,” taking place Saturday, Oct. 22. She will speak the night of the concert about the importance of supporting victims of domestic violence, share her survival story and give details about this year’s Walk. The Senator and The Dell Music Center ask that attendees wear something purple the night of Jul. 21 in support of domestic-abuse victims. “The toll-free hotline provides help to between 9,000 and 10,000 callers each year and we want to ensure that these victims continue receiving the support they so desperately need,” said Sen. Washington. “We thank the City Recreation Dept. and Recreation Commissioner Susan Slawson for hosting Domestic Violence Awareness Night during The Dell Music THE PHILADELPHIA DAILY RECORD

the cars are used to tell a story: that competition and racing improves the breed. The central theme of the Simeone Foundation collection is “the spirit of competition.”

Dr. Simeone has assembled one of the world’s great collections of racing sports cars over a span of 50 years, and in 2008 opened a museum in Philadelphia to display the collection.

The Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum, located in the Airport Auto Mall, is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation and includes many of the most significant racing sports cars ever built. For more information call (215) 365- 7233, or visit the website at: www.simeonemuseum.org. The Museum is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $12 adults, $10 seniors, $8 for students. Children under 8 are admitted free.

In making the award, Iacocca noted, “The Award is presented to the person who has shown excellence in dedication to the preservation of an American automotive tradition. The prestigious Lee Iacocca Award is given for Dedication To Excellence In Perpetuating An American Automotive Tradition. A native Philadelphian, Dr. Simeone began his passionate interest in cars when he was a teenager, following in the footsteps of his father, also a doctor, who was one of the early collectors of classic cars in the 1950s. For more than five decades, Simeone has assembled what many automotive authorities agree is one of the world’s great collections of racing sports cars.
