Al Schmidt Gets Big Push The two man race for the one Philadelphia Charter guaranteed seat is drawing interest. The two are incumbent Joseph Duda and Al Schmidt. Both have had close ties to the Republican City Committee. Duda has been one of its leaders for years. Al Schmidt came in as the RCC’s Executive Director and left to become one of the leaders of a contesting group of Republicans who wanted to see leadership changes in the Republican City Committee. Last night Rep. John Taylor was the lead man in a
number of hosts who held a fundraiser at the United Republican Club in Kensington for Schmidt. Both sides of the Republican coin attended, creating a lot of tension, but happily, no fights. This general election marks the first in a long time where the second nominee to Duda has changed the playing field. Schmidt is not sitting back and that means he has engaged Duda in a two man race to see who gets the most votes in the general election. That race is now the key race as far as the GOP leaders are concerned.
ENJOYING Schmidt fundraiser were Council candidate Joe McColgan, Ward Leaders Annie Havey (40B), Mike Cibik (5th), Lindsay Doering (8th), Philadelphian’s for Ethical Leadership’s Ben Mannes and Nicole Somers.
