Professr Specter Ready For Class By Rory G. McGlasson Former U.S. Senator turned University of Pennsylvania Adjunct Professor of Law, Arlen Specter will give his first lecture tomorrow. Professor Specter will hold his first class as a adjunct Ivy League Prof. as part of his course titled: “Congress, the Constitution, and the Supreme Court” at the National Constitution Center, focusing on the confirmation hearing for

Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr. Specter joins the UPenn Law School as an adjunct faculty member in 2011. The “interactive“ class is open to the public, and will introduce students to the confirmation process for nominees to the Supreme Court and will focus on the confirmation hearing for Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr., over which Senator Specter presided as Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Prof. Specter, who will be joined by his former General Counsel Matthew Wiener and co-teacher, will compare the Chief Justice’s performance on the Court against his testimony to the Judiciary Committee. The lecture takes place at the National Constitution Center, Delegates’ Cafe, 525 Arch Street, Independence Mall on Thursday, September 15 from 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

Justice O’Connor will also talk about iCivics, the online education program O’Connor developed to teach civics and inspire students to be active participants in our democracy. iCivics will be available on Verizon Thinkfinity, the Verizon Foundation’s interactive educational platform that provides tens of thousands of free resources for use in and out of the classroom.

Grays Ferry Residents To Fight Blight The Grays Ferry community will unite on Saturday to clean-up some of the vacant lots in the area. Members of the Miracle Temple of Christ, volunteers and leaders from community organizations will join Re. State Representative Kenyatta Johnson at a Grays Ferry Beautification Clean-up. The City has an estimated 40,000 vacant properties in the city. Grays Ferry has long been plagued with blighted vacant lots. On Saturday, September 17th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Clean-up will begin at the corner of 27th and Earp Streets. “The problem of blight in the re-

gion could best be resolved by having the entire community work together,” Rep. Johnson said. “This effort is an immediate response to rectify the issue of blighted properties in the area.”

Neighborhood Blight Reclamation and Revitalization Act, and the impact this bill has on improving blight in their community.

In a direct response to Rep. Johnson’s Summer Nights Constituent Block Meetings, a unique series of community meetings taking place throughout South and Southwest Philadelphia, Rep.
