The Academy, which will celebrate its 200th anniversary in 2012, is a world leader in biodiversity and environmental research. Its collection of more than 17 million biological specimens includes Thomas Jefferson’s personal fossil collection; birds gathered and identified by John James Audubon; Hadrosaurus foulkii, the first dinosaur skeleton ever mounted for display; and plants from the Lewis & Clark expedition. The institution’s Ewell Sale Stewart Library and Archives is one of the most important natural-history libraries in the Americas, with approximately 250,000 volumes, some dating to the 16th century.

“The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University will further establish Philadelphia, the birthplace of American science, as a city central to the advancement of the natural and environmental sciences,” Nutter said. “This unique academic affiliation between two of Philadelphia’s most-respected research institutions also will serve as a model for similar partnerships that can be formed between not-for-profit organizations and academic institutions for the benefit of both.”

Reynolds Brown, Tasco To Announce New Professional Association For Housing In an effort to provide housing practitioners with increased industry related training and expertise, Philadelphia Councilwomen Blondell Reynolds Brown and Marian B. Tasco will co-host a news conference announcing the American Society of Certified Housing Executives, an organization created to broaden the scope of information, education, services and resources available to housing professionals.

The event took place this morning on La Salle University’s campus.

Today’s housing industry demands that professionals have a solid understanding of technical real-estate principles, knowledge of the mortgage industry, and the ability to provide credit, debt, and money-management advice to consumers. ASCHE will provide support services that help professionals improve their career growth and development, while also promoting the standards and code of ethics to its members.

Programs will particularly prepare professionals to help consumers avoid foreclosure and the pitfalls of predatory lending. It is fitting that this initiative comes out of Philadelphia, as both the city and state have been at the forefront of housing-related issues for over four decades.

Mayor’s Box-Attendee Numbers Are Out The City of Philadelphia has released the names of those who received tickets to the Mayor’s Box from Jul. 1 through Sep. 30, 2011 (third quarter, 2011). The City’s ticket policy is the first-time distribution of Mayor’s Box tickets has been governed by a written, public policy. It provides for the equitable distribution of complimentary tickets received by the City of Philadel-

phia.

1,362 tickets were distributed during the third quarter of 2011. During the third quarter of 2011, 565 (41%) tickets for events in the Mayor’s Box were distributed to children from recreation centers, nonprofits and other groups who attended Wachovia Center, Citizens Bank Park, Lincoln Financial Field, the Mann

Center and Dell events. Eightyseven percent of all tickets that were available for use were distributed.

Since the policy’s inception on Apr. 4, 2008, 17,181 tickets have been distributed. Of these, 7,769 (50%) have been distributed to schools, nonprofits, recreation centers and other groups.
