School Wants You To Know Who It Is
SOUTHWARK ES Principal Jill Silverstein, right and community leader Karen Brown show off temporary sign that school will erect in frnt of entrance.
by Rory G. McGlasson One of South Philadelphia’s oldest learning institutions has been seeking its own identity for almost 100 years. Now, Southwark Elementary School, 1835 S. 9th Street, has finally found it. It’s not like the teachers, student or parents don’t know what Southwark School is; they just want a sign on their school, so everybody else does. They have gone almost 100 years without any kind of signage on the school. Delivery guys have gone to Bok HS that sits adjacent, with deliveries. Worse yet, new residents and outof-town visitors have mistakenly thought the school nothing more than an annex of Bok because of its close vicinity. (Cont. Page 2)
