State Sen. Anthony H. Williams, in collaboration with the Philadelphia Regional Census Center, will present census testing throughout the 8th Senatorial Dist. from January through March. The census office plans to hire 1,500 people in the Philadelphia, Bucks and Montgomery Co. region for various positions starting as early as April. “We all know times are tough, especially here in the greater Philadelphia area,” Williams said. “Census opportunities will help provide em-

South Philadelphia’s senior community has found itself in a threemonth competition to come up with the top 11 seniors in their community. Sponsored by the Philadelphia Consumer Council and the South Philadelphia Public Record, the 11 will be named at a morning gala held at the South Philadelphia Older Adult Center at 10th & Dickinson at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 29.

Who will be number 1 senior? Hundreds of nomination ballots were distributed throughout the community directly to senior centers and through the pages of the South Philadelphia Public Record. Deadline is 26th of this month. Al Boccella, executive director of the nonprofit which was established in 1982, said, “There are countless seniors in this area who, each by themselves, can be considered outstanding leaders and servants working for the public good. We are lucky to have the ballots guide us as to who among them should be honored this first time around. “The most difficult task of the selection committee was in determining a person’s dedication and commitment to volunteer their services for others.
