New on the job, Superintendent Arlene Ackerman has come up with her vision of what the School District needs to do to guarantee all its students get a good and equal education. She unveiled her plan, a new broom, called “Imagine 2014,” to a packed School Reform Commission meeting. It’s a five-year plan calling for the expenditure of $50 million which will be used to shut down 35 failing schools and reopening them as charter schools or schools run by outside managers. The plan will call for infusing counseling services, reducing class size, and expanding activities for students. (Cont. Page 2)

JUDICIAL CANDIDATE for Common Pleas Roxanne Covington not only has support of Marion Wimbush’s Oak Lane Team, but Laborers Local 332 as well, vital in this hotly contested primary.
