Weccacoe Honors a Community Hero SHARP AS A WHIP! Community leader Janet Sharp joins her husband Ken as she is presented “Public Spirit” Award at Weccocoe CDC Meeting. Joining them are Carmen and Lenora Scarduzio, State Sen. Larry Farnese, Phyllis Delamma, Diane & Deacon Fred Druding, Sr., Lynn Wescott, Esq., Rose Itri, Elijah Mason and Weccaoe President Geraldine Johnson.

Weccacoe Commercial Development Corp. honored a longtime local resident this week for a lifetime of giving back to her community. Janet Sharp has provided Weccacoe with over 20 years of community service in South Philadelphia, and she was awarded Weccoe CD “Public Spirit “at their April Board of directors meeting this week. Sharp is the former executive director of the Whitman Council Civic Association and the Administrator of the Weccacoe CDC. State Sen. Larry Farnese was on hand to present Miss Sharp with a proclamation for

Harrisburg for her outstanding community service. In addition Weccacoe Executive Director, Deacon Fred Druding, Sr. presented her with a citation co-sponsored by Council President Anna Verna and Councilman Frank DiCicco. Weccaoe Community liaison, Fred Druding, Jr. was on vacation in Europe; however, he sent Miss Sharp red roses to mark the occasion. Several South Philadelphia residents presented gifts of appreciation, and spoke of her relentless community contributions.

Business Owners Set To Talk Shop Concerned business owners on E. Passyunk Avenue are meeting up to talk about the BID problems. Passyunk Avenue shopowners will hold an informal meeting next Tuesday evening, May 5, at 7:30 at Colombo’s Restaurant at Passyunk & Juniper Street. Meeting is to discuss changing the BID Bylaws to allow open elections to the BID’s Board of Directors. Other agenda items will include discussions on the status of Passyunk Avenue cleaning, status of City Council Action on the BID legislation, and the feasibility of legal actions some BID members are considering.
