Hometown Hero Hank Set For World Title Bout

by Rory G. McGlasson Two of the boxing world’s hottest prospects will showcase their skills in front of a hometown crowd next week in South Philadelphia. Rising stars Brian Cohen and Hammerin’ Hank Lundy will head up a stellar card on Saturday, Sep. 26 at the Yesha Fellowship Hall, 23rd Street & Snyder Avenue. The pair will take part in two separate title fights; Lundy will fight for the World Welterweight title under the newly sanctioned Universal Boxing Council. It’s the first time a title fight and a
World Title fight has ever taken place at the same time in South Philadelphia, on one fight card. It’s quite a coup for local boxing manager Ivan Cohen who has taken both fighters under his wing, as he presents a card chocked full of the best of Philadelphia’s elite boxers. Ivan’s son Brian will be one headliner on the card in a Heavyweight title bout. Also in lights will be unbeaten Junior Welterweight prospect Lundy. by Rory G. McGlasson A Grays Ferry playground is one tiny step closer to a makeover, thanks to a state grant. The Grays Ferry Community Council received a $50,000 check from State Rep. Babette Josephs, who presented the grant to GFCC members at the Lanier playground at 29th & Tasker Avenue. The money will go directly towards the $800,000 fix-up fund to turn Lanier into a Memorial Park in Grays Ferry. “This is the first step towards what we envisage as the future site of Grays Ferry Memorial Park,” said GFCC (Cont.
