State Rep. Kenyatta Johnson will host the first Peace Not Guns -Youth Town Hall Meeting on Thursday, Dec. 10. This innovative discussion aims to engage youth in dialogue with a group of panelists to address youth violence in the Philadelphia region -- including troubled parts of SouthPhiladelphia. Plaza, mirrored on both sides of Broad Street, became the property of The Fairmount Park system in 1937. On Oct. 18 of that year, it was officially named Marconi Plaza to honor Guglielmo Marconi, a Nobel Prize Laureate, who made significant contributions to the development of wireless telegraphy, more commonly known as “the radio”. by R. George Linton Hundreds of Mummers from across the City strutted together at a pep rally to save the Mummers Parade and bring attention to the Bacon Brothers concert. It was the first time in a long time all the division and members of Philadelphia mummery joined together for one common purpose: saving the Mummers! Congressman Bob Brady, Save The Mummers Chairman of the Board George Badey, Councilman Frank DiCicco and special guest Hilary Bacon, oldest sister of the Bacon Brothers, joined hundreds of Mummers at their Museum, 2nd Street & Washington Avenue Sunday. Every Mummers club was represented as they marched up “2 Street”to draw attention to the concert event, and also to emphasize the beloved annual event needs extra funding.
