Job Training Center Offers Path To Work

Almost 50 students continue to boycott Southern High following a series of attacks on nearly 30 Asian students on Dec. 3. Students believe the attacks were racially motivated and they do not believe the School has done enough to ensure their continued safety. Some students said this week that the trouble has been brewing for years, and it’s going to take a lot more than a series of meetings to fix it. Southern Principal LaGreta Brown met with officials of the Philadelphia’s Human Relations Commission at a private meeting earlier this week in hopes of easing racial and ethnic tensions at the much-maligned high school. Levy To Audit Citizens’ Alliance by R. George Linton A respected City auditor will decide the future of a well-known South Philadelphia charity. Paul R. Levy has been named the conservator of the South Philadelphia nonprofit Citizens’ Alliance for Better Neighborhoods. Levy, who heads Philadelphia’s Center City District, is to assess the remaining assets of Citizens’ Alliance and make recommendations to a Judge about its future as a public charity. State Sen. Larry Farnese has applauded the appointment. “Center City District has been a top-notch operation for almost 20 years,” Farnese said. “By putting control of Citizens’ Alliance in Mr. Levy’s hands, I am certain we will see a continuation of vital services that our citizens have come to expect.” In late April, the nonprofit (Cont.
