Jannie Hosts Homeless For 10th Christmas Party Sheriff Delivers Socks, Christmas On Woodland Ave. Shoes To City’s Needy

The logistics are overwhelming, but Councilwoman Jannie Blackwell every year manages to add more of this city’s needy families, the majority living in homeless shelters, to share with her a Christmas dinner with toys galore given to the children. This year, they numbered close to 5,000. She did this last week, crowning the Christmas season at Pennsylvania Convention Center with the one event that easily takes top billing in the many Christmas-spirited events sponsored by others of the city’s political establishment. Elsewhere, bikes were given to needy children by Councilwoman Marian Tasco and State Sen. Larry Farnese; Councilwoman Blondell Reynolds Brown distributed coats, (Cont. Page 28) (Cont. From Page 1)

Sheriff John Green continues his tradition of delivering not only new socks and new shoes to the needy at the Salvation Army’s main offices, but he also makes sure they get their feet checked. Such was the case this week when the Sheriff delivered close to 1,000 pairs of shoes to be distributed to the needy, who were waiting. Delivering foot-health checks was the Foot and Ankle Center run by Dr. and Mrs. Youssef Kabbani. Sheriff John Green, when he first took office, realized many families were treated to toys, gifts, food, and some clothing, but no one ever menSHOWING baby James his new tioned shoes. “Those in need of food shoes from Sheriff is Allison and clothing are also in need of shoes Hillanbrand. Photo by Donald Terry and stockings,”, he noted. So he began to collect new odd-lot shoes and new socks of all sizes during the year which he and his staff delivered to the needy. This year the shoes were delivered over a two-day period but were collected over a two-month period. --The Public Record Staff This is the 20th year of his holiday (Cont. Page 6)
