State Sen. Larry Farnese has teamed up with the local Pennsylvania SPCA chapter to collect clothes for animals. The freshman Senator is collecting the clothes at his District office on S. Once the home of the City’s finest medical professionals, the areas best medical professionals are being forced to leave the area. High insurance premiums have forced many doctors to shut down their facilities and leave town to more affordable practices in neighboring states, such as Delaware and South Jersey. Lights, Camera, Action! The Academy Awards ceremony might be around the corner, but some budding filmmakers are making names for themselves on a corner near you. I can relate to Dominick DeFino, executive director of Filmtech, an independent film school located on Juniper Street between Snyder Avenue and McKean Street; half a block from Broad Street. DeFino is creative and doesn’t box himself into a corner. In verity, he’s outside the box; around the box and on top of the box. We’re sitting in his 3,200square-foot facility, in an extremely modern, comfortable reception area. He wants to take me on a tour of the school, with its cyclorama wall, 16-foot stage, blackout curtains, audio and video equipment and production and office space. I started to fiddle with (Cont.
