Over 500 South Philadelphia kids got an early taste of Easter at one of South Philadelphia’s premier restaurants, and some Easter bargains, thanks to local business owners along the E. Passyunk Avenue strip. The East Passyunk Avenue Business Improvement District held its annual Easter Egg Hunt at 1927 E.Passyunk Avenue in Le Virtu’s Outdoor Garden. Children of ages decorated Easter Bags to collect their candy-filled eggs, and each had a visit with the Easter Bunny. As part of their touted renaissance, E. Passyunk business owners (Cont. Page 22)

A Taste of Flavors The chefs and proprietors of E. Passyunk Avenue’s award-winning restaurants will preview this year’s Flavors of the Avenue, at the “Taste of Flavors” on Monday, Apr. 5. State Champions! Neumann-Goretti High School Scores Big… …On And Off The Basketball Court by Rory G. McGlasson It’s been great first year for Neumann-Goretti President John Murawski. The 32-year-old former athletic director is proud of the players and coaches of the Boys Basketball team, who brought the State Championship back to South Philadelphia. However, as much as the basketball team, one of 12 outstanding athletic programs at the school, brings rewards and positive attention to the school, Murawski is just as excited at next year’s freshman enrolment numbers, which at present tips in at just under 200. What that means for Neumann Goretti is worth more than a threeNeumann-Goretti HS Boys Basketball Team won State Championship! Going Vegan? Local Caterers Add Non-Meat Dishes to Menu by Maria Merlino I’ve been to Swann Caterers on numerous occasions and I’ve immeasurably enjoyed myself. The mammoth buffet that Carmen D’Aquilante provides is probably one of the best in the city, yet I’ve never seen a non-meat menu offered. However, due to demand, D’Aquilante and his chefs, Chris Rodgers and Jackie Eells have put together a bill of fare that not only is free of any animal products but is tasty to boot. “This food is so delicious it makes you want to go vegan!” exclaimed Angela Bouhon as she enjoyed her meal at the No-Kill Gala a few weeks ago at The Swan Caterers located at Water & Snyder Avenue.
