Does Your Child Have Health Care? Child Advocacy Group Will Get Your Kid Covered
by Thomas James Children at many area schools will be out of session in the next few weeks as parents gear up for the summer break. However, before term-time ends, a local child-advocacy group is trying to catch up with parents at three local high schools, who they believe are unaware of many State health benefits their kids are eligible for. Public Citizens for Children and Youth has launched an initiative to get as many Southern, Bok and Furness HS students as possible enrolled in CHIP/Medicaid by the end of the
year. Since some students in Philadelphia high schools are going without health insurance, PCCY, a leading children’s advocacy organization, has begun a campaign targeting parents to enroll them in the two available public insurance plans. A yearlong effort to sign up as many students as possible into CHIP or Medicaid, PCCY’s Student Health Insurance Enrollment & Renewal Initiative, will concentrate initially in South Philadelphia.
