STUFFED to the brim! Solar-powered trash compactors in South Philadelphia are proving a boon to people who want to drop their rubbish day in, day out.

By Rory G. McGlasson The solar-panel trash cans in South Philadelphia have been become a popular friend to many litter louts, which have added to the trash problem in the neighborhood. Those that live along E. Passyunk Avenue, Oregon Avenue and South Street corridors are furious people are using the new trash compactors as a personal dumping ground. The new energy-efficient cans have simply added to a perennial South Philadelphia problem: trash on the street. Not a single day passes without the new solar-powered trash compactors signaling to the City that they are full, and ready for changing. The problem is, though, hundreds of area residents are stacking their trash beside, and on top of the ‘big-belly’ cans when it is already full. “Che schifo!” said Italian-born (Cont. Page 2)
